can you get a slow leak of waters rather than them breaking?

With ds my waters were broken so I ahve no experience of this. I've had what feels like painful braxton hicks every 20 mins or so since this afternoon and now seem to have fluid leaking (sorry if tmi) but I thought waters went with a pop and a gush. Last bit went through to my jeans (and no I hadn't just sneezed and peed myself)

Mine never gushed. I lost a little bit with each contraction.

Good luck!

stripeymama · 28/04/2008 20:03

Yes, you can.

I am sure this is what happened to me but the midwives were adamant I had pissed myself.

deaconblue · 28/04/2008 20:04

right, will work out if the drips are linked with the pains...
Oh and have been crapping like anything for the last two days

deaconblue · 28/04/2008 20:06

aha am due in May
Would be so fab if she's on her way though, as dh doesn't have to start his next contract til beginning June so would get lots of time at home

Oh yes I had the pop and gush about an hour before dd was born, but dripping for the previous day or so.

Oooh its exciting! Good luck x

deaconblue · 28/04/2008 20:10

have put a pad on with that thought in mind. But there's no need for me to see a midwife unless the pains get closer etc is there???

Yes this happenned to me - leaked on and off for several days until I was induced. I believe the pop and a gush happens less often than films and TV would have us believe!

Best of luck xx

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 28/04/2008 20:12

you can be a thread tart lol- we had a few!

you should call mw, as infection is a risk that needs monitoring. at the very, very least take your temp every few hours, treat a rise as an emergency. check out NICE guidelines for premature rupture of membranes.

i didnt tell them as i wanted my hb, but found out last week i had retained membrane as they had deteriorated.... i was lucky, could have been a major infection risk!

Fullmoonfiend · 28/04/2008 20:12

mine were a slow leak not picked up on until final ante natal check, 2 days before due date...
Might be worth ringing your midwife as some get a bit worried about waters leaking away as, allegedly, it can pose risk of infection to baby, if there are no fluid to protect. However, I wish I'd kept my mouyjh shut when it happened to me as they tried to induce baby 3 times and he didn't want to come oput

Good luck if this is D-day!

deaconblue · 28/04/2008 20:16

Just remembered i can't possibly have my baby tonight as I have manky toenails and a pedicure booked for tomorrow!!!

I had both with both dc!

That is, a huge gush and then a continual drip, drip for hours (more so with first one)

Is this going to be an online situation?

(good luck btw )

Fullmoonfiend · 28/04/2008 20:17

blinkingthreetimes · 28/04/2008 20:18

I had the hindwaters (drip drip drip) from 6am - had to wear a pad and it was irritating more than anything. Real waters broke with a gush (no mistaking it) around 10am. dd2 born at 11.40am.

How exciting shoppingbags, hopefully not long now. Oooh I am excited and I have no idea who you are (apart from your mum enjoys the odd glass of wine. )

onepieceoflollipop · 28/04/2008 20:24

Lol at your toenails. The day before I gave birth I somehow managed (no idea how) to paint mine.

NO ONE noticed, but the midwife seemed mildly surprised (whilst helping me out of the bath) that I pointed it out to her that I had painted them for her benefit!!

deaconblue · 29/04/2008 07:23

update. Have had contractions (or I suppose Braxton Hicks that hurt. not ruling out total false alarm yet) every 30-40 mins through the night but they certainly aren't bad or that frequent yet. Will ring the day assessment unit when it opens and ask if they need to see me to check about waters. Fingers crossed...

good luck.

it all sounds hopeful for an nice early labour for you!

bergentulip · 29/04/2008 07:36

Oooh, good luck.

My waters broke both times slowly. Drip drip for the duration, but enough that I needed to be changing one of those massive maternity pads every half hour or so. Really bloody annoying, I can tell you!

If you are not too sure if it is/was your waters, apparently the smell will tell you(!) Ew, I know. But, when I last went into labour, the midwife brought a 'rookie' to the house with her, and she asked to have one of the pads so she could examine it- and smell it..... and then I did too.... Ew, yuk, ew..... it definitely smells like having a baby though! - if there is such a smell.

amidaiwish · 29/04/2008 08:19

i went into hospital as i was feeling "damp" about a week before i went into labour. It was just discharge - but very watery and lots of it... it might be that, though if you've been having contractions it sounds like you are underway!

Good luck and keep us posted.

LadyPenelope · 29/04/2008 08:33

Mine dripped before start of proper labour with dd. Started in night - thought I'd lost control of my bladder and I swear it didn't occur to me until mid morning that it might be something else! (And dd was a week late!)

Dottydot · 29/04/2008 08:40

Yes - this happened to me - I spent two days thinking I was wetting myself all the time...
