can you get a slow leak of waters rather than them breaking?

With ds my waters were broken so I ahve no experience of this. I've had what feels like painful braxton hicks every 20 mins or so since this afternoon and now seem to have fluid leaking (sorry if tmi) but I thought waters went with a pop and a gush. Last bit went through to my jeans (and no I hadn't just sneezed and peed myself)

I had a slow leak for 2 days before DD was born- They think she could have just kicked a hole in the amniotic sack high up. It was a bit of a 'mare as we really wanted labour to start but going for a long walk was impossible- couldn't make it to the end of the road without gushing and having to rush home and change pads etc (sorry TMI)!. Hospital will confirm what the fluid is and prob then ask you to monitor your temperature for a couple of days.
Hope it's all happening for you!

I had PROM (premature rupture of membranes) on Easter Sunday and kept quiet about it... didn't want a c-section (after vaginal birth and c-section all within 3 years). Kept leaking until I went to hospital on Monday, in on Tuesday to be induced and baby born Wedsnesday. Needed oxytocin drip, but got normal birth even though c-section was only 20 months previous. Don't delay if this happens, risks are too high.

Don't expect the hospital necessarily to confirm that your waters have gone - in my case they wouldn't examine (risk of infection, fair enough) and they are obsessed with you wetting yourself, apparently it is common in late pregnancy, but I am sure you can tell the difference!
Mine started leaking very late on a Wednesday, bit more on Thursday, and it was only until the doctor scanned me on Friday morning that they confirmed the waters had nearly all gone and induced. But other than the pessary, the birth was normal.

I ahve apparently probably had a hindwater leak and they want to induce tomorrow. AFter initially crying as I so wanted to go to the MLU, it seems sensible to take advice and go with the flow. So I plan to walk, clean floors and if I can be arsed shag the husband, in the hope she'll get herself going before tomorrow morning. Contractions have stopped btw.
If I do end up being induced do you have to have the monitor thing if the pessary works or is it just for syntocinon inductions? Want to keep moving and avoid bedridden ventouse bollocks like I had for ds.

ooh here's a contraction now, just as I finished typing about them stopping.

why do they want to induce tomorrow shoppingbags? is it just policy re no of hours since waters broke / infection risk or is there another reason?

at least you have pains and things though, that sounds very promising. my waters broke and nothing ever happened. well obviously a baby came out but not that way.

slinkiemalinki · 29/04/2008 14:45

You have the monitor even if just a pessary - with PROM they are also worried about infections etc. After a bit of argy bargy with the registrar they let me off the monitor and that's when it really got going.
They told me beforehand it was likely a hindwater leak (after trying to convince me it was me wetting myself). It wasn't (once they scanned me, there was nothing left).
They also told me no sex (infection risk again). But scrubbing floors fine!
If you are having contractions that is really great - you sound ready, which should surely mean you have a far better chance of a normal labour otherwise! Good luck... either way you'll meet your baby soon!

fishie · 29/04/2008 14:58

i had intermittent monitoring with pessary, fully strapped to bed with drip.

i am so hoping you are off somewhere in labour but if not please do start another thread asking doulas etc for advice.

i really wish i'd known more about when to stand my ground.

micci25 · 29/04/2008 15:02

yes this happened to me mine leaked for about two days with dd2 you need to phone the hospital they might want you to go if labour hasnt started as baby can get infections if not protected by the waters i was induced with dd2 as they were worried about her having no waters but when it came down to doing it my waters broke! it was only my back waters that were leaking! apparently you have two!

its best to get it checked out though just in case!

Fullmoonfiend · 29/04/2008 17:09

Oh how exciting Shoppingbags...any more contractions?? Drink some pineapple juice (supposed to help start stuff)
I know excatly how you feel, had ventouse bollcks with ds1 (the one my wtaers leaked away slowly with)
and vowed next time I wiuyld keep my mouth shut and t'baby could come when he was ready...

Best of luck!

have cleaned floors, hoovered and been for a brisk walk. Seem to be having contractions again so am hoping things are moving along on their own. Waiting for dh to get back from work then another walk seems to be a good idea. Thanks for posting about the no sex in case of infection, that hadn't occurred to me.
She said needs to be tomorrow because of risk of infection. I suspect I could argue for another day but am happy to go along with their advice.

Your floors are going to be beautiful and shiny.

bambi06 · 29/04/2008 18:24

mine started leaking on the tuesday night before i gave birth friday and i got an infection. they did a swab to check ,thats when i found out it was an infection which meant i had to be induced

Twinkie1 · 29/04/2008 18:26

Mine did for 3 days before they would induce me - they smelt like semen by the way - that may help you decide if they were and I swear it wasn't semen because DH hadn't been near me for weeks!
