If your first labour was quick, was your second quick also?

My first experience with labour was that my waters broke, contractions started and baby was born all within four hours. Makes me nervous for baby no.2 (if it's on the cards) that it'll be even quicker!

Ds1 was 4 hours
Ds2 was 90 minutes
Ds3 was 2 hours, he came on his own while I was waiting for a bed on Labour ward so I could be induced
Dc4 was an elective c-section
Dc5 took ages to get going. 1 hour in the bath got me from 0-2cm dilated. 4 hours on the drip got me from 2-4cm dilated. So no established Labour, just a lot of pain. Then he went into distress and I had another c-section.

1st - 6hrs
2nd - 1hr 30mins
3rd - 1hr 27 mins
4th - would've been even quicker but ended up with an emergency c-section

Second babies tend to come more quickly than first babies especially if there is not more than a couple of years between births.

Mummapenguin20 · 31/08/2024 00:57

Baby 1 4hrs. Baby 2 7 mins baby 3 2 hours baby 4 11 mins

First very quick, second slightly quicker and less painful, third was 2 days long v painful and everything went wrong, I don’t think there’s anyway of predicting how it will go - was warned my whole pregnancy that third one would fly out and I’d be lucky to make it to hospital 😂

First one I had a show, contractions started an hour later and baby born 1 hour 50 after they started. Baby two had a show, contractions started an hour later and baby born 40 minutes later.

Neolara · 07/09/2024 17:44

First was 4 hours from start to finish. The second was very similar. Third was just under 30 mins (and delivered by DH in the kitchen as midwife and ambulance did not arrive in time).

Yes though not as quick as I feared!

DC1 labour was 2hrs 45 from first contraction to birth

DC2 was 1hr 30

dizzydizzydizzy · 07/09/2024 17:55

Yes. DC1 6 hours, DC2 4 hours

dizzydizzydizzy · 07/09/2024 17:56

DM had me in something like 6 hours and DB in 45 mins

Second was a much slower labour because my baby was back to back, and had a hand up over the head, so took a lot longer than my first to be born. It was about 2.5 hours in the end for my second. First was officially 9 minutes but actually about 1 hr 20.

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 07/09/2024 18:02

First birth 3.5 hours from "I feel something funny" to baby.

Second birth 4 hrs - but a water birth which is often thought to slow things down?

Second was a planned home birth as I was worried about making it to hospital on time - we'd moved house and were further away from the hospital.

Both were 7hrs
First sign of anything was waters breaking; contractions 0-10 cm in 6 hours
Both cs due to undiagnosed breech.

Powderblue1 · 07/09/2024 19:09

Yes! Very quick both of them

GeorgeBeckett · 07/09/2024 19:09

Yes -
1st - 6 hours from first twinge to baby. Waters broke at the very end
2nd - Waters broke before contractions. Contractions started 4 hours later. Twinge to baby 2h30.

It did feel more intense the second time but I already knew DS2 would need NICU so was more frightened, so not sure how much was that.

Waters broke with first and born about 3 hours later.

Second I had mild contractions from breakfast time into the evening. We rang the hospital and they said to come in (it was just a couple of miles away) so they could take a look. Saw a midwife right away - she was just getting her rubber gloves on when the waters broke and baby slithered right out.

DH's comment - "thank goodness it didn't happen 5 minutes earlier, it would have ruined the car seat" 😁.
