Any Mums given birth in Harrogate?

MissPaulaYates · 12/04/2008 21:59

Is it called Harrogate general?

I am considering a change of plan and was wondering about ditching leeds in favour of Harrogate

Would this be wise?

Any birth stories from therein

I would be grateful of any input

Thanks

Harrogate District Hospital now. 2 births there. It was fine. But I have nothing to compare it with

MissPaulaYates · 12/04/2008 22:05

i am concerned about epidurals and cleanliness!
Leeds is reticent to give the first and non existent on the second!

It's called Harrogate District Hospital

My ds was born there. It was fine.

It is very clean and the food is good. Can compare to York as I have also been in theer as a patient and York is grim.

DrNortherner · 12/04/2008 22:07

I got an epidural like that

MissPaulaYates · 12/04/2008 22:09

oooh ! now that sways me DrNortherner

just checked out website and looks good - is is modern or old? is it Starbeck end of Harrogate?

Fullmoonfiend · 12/04/2008 22:10

10 years old IIRC.

Novacane · 12/04/2008 22:12

ME ME ME!

(I work there too)

I had no problems, was in for over a week (pre eclampsia, induction, failure to progress, emergency section)
cant fault it, well apart from being forced into an epidural (i was oblivious to what was going on)

I am biased as I work at HDH, but the staff are LOVELY....

MissPaulaYates · 12/04/2008 22:15

'forced into an epidural' sounds like my idea of heaven!

I am only wavering beacuse the consultant i am under at Leeds 'Gerald' is my dream dream doctor and i would hate tp lose him but ..

probability is i will not see him again and Leeds was soo awful last time and i am so disillusioned...

Harrogate is a lot easier to get to for me as well.....

I think i may ask to look around

The maternity wing is quite modern, my friends dd is 10 and she was born in the old hospital, so FMF is about right with her guess.

Novacane what do you do there? My dh works there too.

In fcat over te years I have been at HDH quite alot - giving birth/ds grommets/miscarriage/ds broken wrist resulting in 2 ops and countless appointments.....

They have always been very good and I have never noticed any dirt.

Novacane · 12/04/2008 22:18

Yes starbeck end of harrogate, just next to the stray.

Its newish, built about 15 years ago. I think it is clean, when i stayed in the children's ward recently the room was cleaned every day (with moving the beds)

Novacane · 12/04/2008 22:21

I work for GP out of hours northerner.. what does your hubby do?

after they built HDHm they moved everyone over in phases, and i think maternity and pharmacology/pharmacy were the last ones to go over in 1994.

DrNortherner · 12/04/2008 22:22

You look familiar. Are you a member at teh hydro gym?

My dh is a chef.

Novacane · 12/04/2008 22:22

hmm maternity must have been even later then. anyway we digress..lol

Novacane · 12/04/2008 22:29

(sorry for hijack)

No, although do go swimming there.
I live on west park so am always in town (usually wandering aimlessly) so you will probably have seen me.
Is your dh the head chef that was on the posters?

DrNortherner · 12/04/2008 22:31

LOl at wandering aimlessly - you sound like Rudi now!!!!

No he is not head chef and was not on posters.

Novacane · 12/04/2008 22:34

Have you noticed rudi is back to his old self- he has his microphone and speaker out at the moment!

Have looked at your pics, you do look familiar- your husband does too- any connection with boroughbridge?

DrNortherner · 12/04/2008 22:36

No connections with boroughbridge no.

There was a man with a guitar busking the other day, he was quite good, but Rudi parked up next to him with his mic and started singing teh same songs. Poor guy

MissPaulaYates · 12/04/2008 22:37

lol at Rudi!

He is a character - so 'un' harrogate! I thought you were chatting about a Doctor at the hospital for a bit

Has Rudi been awol?

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 12/04/2008 22:39

he disapears every now and again..........

Novacane · 12/04/2008 22:43

He did go quiet for a few months, but he is back with avengance at the moment, usually signing madonnas 'like a prayer', but with wrong words. I so want to go up and correct him but i darent lol.

Northerner, hgte is a small town, we will probably have come across each other at some point..., if you see a loon of a child knocking old ladies down with his scooter, it's miniNova and me trying to catch up behind!

MissPaulaYates · 12/04/2008 22:45

once Rudi carried my little boy around singing to him!

Lucky ds3 is chilled!

OP posts:
Novacane · 12/04/2008 22:48

lol he had acosted DP on a couple of occasions, once in the hossie when i was having DS funnily enough, and he was startled at first, (as he is southern lol), but now he actually appreciates the RUDIness of it all.

He does no harm, well apart from when he makes it rain lol

MissPaulaYates · 13/04/2008 12:41
