Sweep this morning now contractions?

I’m 41 weeks today and I had a sweep this morning at 9.15, she said I was 2cm and my cervix was soft, stretchy and ready to labour. Since 3.45 this afternoon I’ve been timing contractions that are coming every 6/7 minutes but the pain isn’t that bad, like a mild period pain. Will this be the start of labour?

Sounds like it. Keep moving as much as poss! Good luck!

WeeOrcadian · 06/07/2024 17:48

Definitely sounds like it could be the start

Walk around as much as you can

Keep your bags ready to go

Keep moving (yes, I said it twice, it REALLY does help)

Good luck!

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 06/07/2024 19:19

Sounds like it, thats what happened to me!

MammaTo · 06/07/2024 19:20

It sounds like it, how exciting! Keep moving around and best of luck!!

Firstbaby1234 · 06/07/2024 19:58

They are getting quite painful now and lasting around 50 seconds but still 6 minutes apart

Is it your first baby?

anonhop · 06/07/2024 20:00

Good luck OP! Try to stay distracted, calm, active as much as possible. All the best - how exciting you're so close to meeting your precious little baby! X

Firstbaby1234 · 06/07/2024 20:03

@TheShellBeach no it’s my 2nd but the first was back to back so labour felt a lot different to this from the get go

Ah. Then you'd better be ready to go to the hospital quite soon.
It's going to ramp up and you'll be delivering before you know it.
Good luck!

Firstbaby1234 · 06/07/2024 20:24

@TheShellBeach yes I’ve been told to wait until contractions are every 3-4 minutes apart, they’ve been 6 minutes apart since 3.45pm but they have got stronger and longer

Are you far from the hospital?

TheShellBeach · 06/07/2024 20:27

And how old is the first child?

Firstbaby1234 · 06/07/2024 20:29

@TheShellBeach nope just 5/10 minutes which is a good thing! My first is 2 and a half

You might end up giving birth on all fours on your bathroom floor.
Get to the hospital sooner rather than later.

Firstbaby1234 · 06/07/2024 20:38

@TheShellBeach im not sure when to ring, they gave me a piece of paper this morning when I went for a sweep and it says to ring if waters break which they haven’t and if contractions are 3-4 minutes apart and lasting a minute

OP posts:
Rainbowsponge · 06/07/2024 20:41

I would give them a ring anyway - as it’s your second they should listen a bit more. Good luck!

Firstbaby1234 · 06/07/2024 20:41

@Rainbowsponge with my first when I rang they told me that I didn’t sound like I was in that much pain so not to go down when I was in a lot of pain! I feel they fob you off

OP posts:
Thumberline · 06/07/2024 20:46

I would go if I were you, with my second they told me I didn’t sound in that much pain, we went anyway and I was 8cm already. Good luck!

summerlovingvibes · 06/07/2024 20:50

I'd definitely be 100% ready to go but just loiter around downstairs and as soon as they get a bit closer then go.
Pace around, keep active. Oooo will it be tonight or tomorrow! Exciting that you are about to meet your baby!

Firstbaby1234 · 06/07/2024 20:53

Ahh I hope so! I’m leant over the ball at the minute as I find that is helping with the pain. I just don’t want to call to be fobbed off with them saying they aren’t close enough together or I don’t sound like I’m in pain

I had a spurious labour with my 2nd, completely irregular contractions but v strong. I surprised the midwives when I told them I thought I need to push - that was a v quick dash into delivery suite! I knew things were closer then they expected. Listen to your own body. Good luck!

notabletocope · 06/07/2024 20:57

I'm a MW, time to go in I reckon. 2nd labours can crack on quickly!

Firstbaby1234 · 06/07/2024 21:00

@notabletocope even though contractions are 6 minutes apart?

OP posts:
OhcantthInkofaname · 06/07/2024 21:13

Warm bath.

notabletocope · 06/07/2024 21:29

Yes, only takes your waters to go and you'll be delivering soon after should think. I would admit at 2:10 contractions for a 2nd time mum for sure
