What's your second birth like?

My son was only a day late. Wondering if my daughter will be early, on time or late. I hope not late as the PGP is getting worse.

What's everyone's experiences :) and was the birth easier. I had forceps with my son as he was malpositon.

Twice as late as the first one!

Beginningless · 30/11/2023 14:37

My second was 2weeks late, finally went into labour with a sweep when I was about to go in to be induced. First was 2 days late. It was an amazing labour, quick and straightforward. Many seconds are easier, hope you get the same.

LadyGwendoline · 30/11/2023 14:37

38 weeks, induced but they only had to break my waters and baby appeared 20 minutes later.

Strugglingtodomybest · 30/11/2023 14:39

My second was born very fast, we only just got to the hospital in time. My first took 33 hours!

keffie12 · 30/11/2023 15:03

I didn't know I was in labour. The prenatal ward told me. I was I was in hospital to be induced as my placenta was deteriorating. I was 2 weeks over.

Having been ill through my pregnancy as I was with all four of mine was why I was being closely monitored.

I had a show in the night. Told the nurses. They came to look at me and said i was in labour. All I had was chronic backache.

I was taken down to the delivery suite, where I was told I wouldn't give birth until later that day.

Wrong! 2 hours later, I screamed through the delivery quite, "I want to * push."

The nurses were making breakfast, I was told later, and had to drop everything to come into me. The ex was on the toilet, and he had to rush out.

Ten minutes, it was done. It was like chronic constipation, the last part. Two and a half hours. No pain relief was needed.

My third was my worst. My DiL was the same as me with her second.

Generally speaking, 2nds are easier, I've found and heard

MargotBamborough · 30/11/2023 15:06

Second birth was a textbook almost spontaneous labour at 40+1 (had a sweep the day before) and unassisted vaginal birth. Had a lightly dosed epidural at 3cm and gave birth two hours later.

I was delighted, after a failed induction and EMCS with my first.

Roselilly36 · 30/11/2023 15:14

DS1 arrived the day before he was due, 10hr natural labour 8lb 11oz

DS2 10 days early, 2.5hr natural labour 9lb 3oz

Twice as late as the first one!

Was the birth itself okay?

I reckon my daughter is going to be late. But glad the labour itself was okay and quick. Thank you. So do I

Wow that was quick. And not realising you were in labour. Yeah I've heard it too. We'll see if I do have a easier quicker birth.

Born on the floor at home an hour after my waters broke, and about 25 min after contractions started! Incredible experience

My son was 8lb 9oz and 11 hr Labour. I hope my daughter is early. And short labour too

Suchardchoccy · 30/11/2023 15:45

My first was 24 hours in labour, episiotomy and ventouse. Spontaneous labour. Born on her due date.
My second, I had a sweep and she arrived about 8 hours later in the pool just a second degree tear. Also born on her due date 😂
I really hope my third isn't late and comes fairly quickly
Good luck!

OldTinHat · 30/11/2023 15:55

Second was ten days early and a home birth. (First arrived on their due date.) He came out forehead presenting, the MWs had no idea. It was a loooooooong labour!

bettynutkins · 30/11/2023 16:29

1st was 13 days early, birthing pool. Straight forward but 72 hours from start to finish (about 12 hours active labour)

2nd was 4 days early, home birth. 3 hours start to finish. 7 minutes active labour. Midwife nearly didn't make it!

Roselilly36 · 30/11/2023 16:34

@wineoclock90 Good luck, 2nd labours are much faster usually.

LightSpeeds · 30/11/2023 16:39

My second was nearly 3 weeks early. I was having contractions all day (but hospital had said I wasn't in established labour). My waters went at home later that day, got to hospital 10 minutes later, baby born 10 minutes after that. No pain relief and very very painful.

MixedCouple · 01/12/2023 01:48

My friend who had an assisted birth with first iver due by 2 weeks with interventions and 3rd degree tear had her second with no interventions within 5hrs of active labour and no tears.
She is not physically active or a healthy person 😂 she knows it. But yeah it generally is shorter and easier.

Thepossibility · 01/12/2023 02:23

First two days over, second 2 days over. Very similar births. Third was different.

MilkChocolateCookie · 01/12/2023 02:37

DC1 was 8 days late, birth took 27 hours from the first contraction and 21 hours from arriving at hospital.
DC2 was 7 days late, birth took 3.5 hours from the first contraction and 20 mins from arriving at hospital.

Good luck OP!

featherlampshade · 01/12/2023 03:10

2 days overdue, 45 minute active labour but the actual birth itself was far more intense than the first
