Have any of you had 2 or more c sections THEN manages a vaginal birth? please advise me....

I have two dc and am preg with my third

My first labour I got to just under 10 cm then was whipped into theatre for a c section - to this day I dont really know why

Then sec time round I had antenatal complications (antenatal depression basically) and required a c section as was so fragile

but this time I feel strong and wonder would it be nuts to try for a normal delivery?

Have any of you had 2 or more sections and then a normal delivery...not sure if my consultant would even allow it?

Any comments or advice would be fab x

you need to find out why your first labour ended in c.section. that is very bad, that you had to have section, but are not clear as to why

common reasons are foetal distress, dilation stopping, baby presenting in an odd position

it is not up to your consultant to 'let' you go for a VBA2C. it is your informed decision to make

I am nervous about even thinking about entertaining the idea of a normal birth

I think I had a section cos I was so wrecked, baby in slight wrong position and it was 40 odd hours later and I had a bladder retention I think

my sec section was complication free I just wonder if a vaginal birth would be better?

Yes, it is possible and no you are definteily not nuts to try.
Does anyone really want to have to recover from a CS with 3 children to look after!

Your consultant, cannot 'allow' you to do anything, their job is to support you and guide you you and do whatever you tell them you want to do!

If you see this RCOG paper 6.2 shows that there is very little difference in the risks between a VBAC after 1 CS and a VBAC after 2 CS.

this can help you see what things could possibly contra-indicate a VBAC, for example induction really is not reccommended, also many hospitals will want you to agree to CFM and having a cannula in your arm just incase of any problems, this is something you have to work out for yourself though.

The best course of action to take is to speak to your cons, tell them you want a VBA2C and see what they say, they may be grand about it, you may have to put your foot down.

There is also a thread here on which you will find many other VBACers, both past and present and can post any questions you may have, someone will know the answer.

Can I ask why you had your two sections?

RCOG is royal college of gynae and obstetrics, they are the peopel that colated all the evidence and did the study.
VBAC is vaginal birth after Caesarian section, if there is a number in there ie VBA2C or VBA3C it's how many CS's(caesarians sections) you've had.

Erm CFM is continual fetal monitoring, basically means you are strapped to a machne to monitor the baby.

I had a CS at 32weeks because of placental abruption with DD, then a planned 'elective' (IE my cons said I had to ) caesarian with DS.

MumofDJandP I know of a MN mum who had 2 CS then went on to have 4 VBAC's and last 3 were also HB VBAC's. I am almost certain she wouldn't mind chatting to you if you need any encouragment.

oohh I feel the same as you mumofdjandp - first CS was due to placenta previa and then tried natual for DD but after 3 days of contractions and 6cm dialted I was not progressing (baby ws back to back) so had to have C section.

Should I try for naural -ahhhhh - am I mad to try - please someone shout the pros and cons - why mess up down there when I don't have to!!

Also, I think I would only go for it if MW said all was ready to go - the MW and consultant were all like 'the baby's not quite in the right position yet' etc

My scan was great I am actually more preg than I thought - am 14 weeks on Fri - am so chuffed as now I can really believe their is a baby as I had early bleeding on and off and it worried me greatly.

I would love a doula but we dont have any spare cash as only dh works as a teacher and Im at home for a few years....so money is all consumed with bills sadly.

I am so encouraged a vaginal birth is possible!

I was told that I was sectioned first time despite getting to 9 cm as the babys head was still in my tummy not far enough down and it was basically fauilure to progress....second time I was too poorly with antenatal depression to give birth naturally...but this time you never know

Oh midwife said I would need to have a section as my consultant wouldnt allow it - have an apopt with her at the end of June.

I had a vbac after 3 sections
Bit of a fight but I did it at home and nothing expoded.
Actually I wouldn't advice a homebirth cos it was blardy messy and I did realise after that if something had gone wrtong then hozzie was very far away.
My first section was 'failure to progress' and they reckon pe;vic disroportion even though I'm 5'10. 2nd and 3rd was cos I'd had sections. Number 4 was 8 years later when vbac's were more usual and common.
And there's no questions of 'allow'. No-one can stop you.

re doulas: a trainee, and i am one still as have not submitted all my paperwork!! can charge up to #150 , which in the grand scheme of things, might well be achievable. also some , myself included have worked for free to get the experience, so don;t give up on the idea
