I have two dc and am preg with my third

My first labour I got to just under 10 cm then was whipped into theatre for a c section - to this day I dont really know why

Then sec time round I had antenatal complications (antenatal depression basically) and required a c section as was so fragile

but this time I feel strong and wonder would it be nuts to try for a normal delivery?

Have any of you had 2 or more sections and then a normal delivery...not sure if my consultant would even allow it?

Any comments or advice would be fab x

I'm planning a homebirth after 2 CS in about 3-5 weeks' time. I haven't had to fight anywhere near as much as I thought I would, but I have had to be very assertive. But then I started planning a VBAC over 2.5 years ago when expecting DD2 which ended in another CS, so I've had plenty of time to do lots of reading and become very confident in what I want. When I got pregnant with this LO I rang my cmw and told her I wanted a homebirth and I've been very lucky that they were supportive from the beginning. I agreed to see a consultant and the consultants (3 so far) have all tried to talk me out of it but I knew my stuff, statistics, etc. and they quickly realised I was well informed and had made up my mind. I've refused to get into any fights with anyone and it's been a very relaxed pregnancy. I do realise I'm very lucky because I know plenty of people who really have had to fight for this, so I would say you need to do your research and be confident of your choices if you really want a VBAC. The main thing you need to know is that most hospitals/consultants are pro-VBAC and will encourage you to try for a vaginal birth after one CS. What most of them don't seem to realise or acknowledge is the fact that the risk of uterine rupture doesn't increase significantly after more than one CS. Have a look at the document from the RCOG that VS linked. I took that document to my consultant appointment and it was the end of the argument. Finally, if you do decide to go for a VBAC, do a lot of research on what type of birth you want and how you're going to go about getting that VBAC because a lot of hospitals will be very prescriptive in what they'll 'allow' you to do but many of those policies and procedures will decrease your chances of achieving a VBAC, like continuous fetal monitoring, time limits, etc. Again, the link VS gave you (VBAC on whose terms) is very useful and a good starting point to get you to think about how to get your VBAC.

Sorry, this has become a bit of an essay. Finally, some links here to VBA2C birth stories. here and here so you can see that plenty of people have done it before, and even after 3 and more CS.

I'll let you know how I get on early April!

Totally agree with Lulu, don't let money be the reason especially if you would like a doula, I'm sure we can find a doula who will be willing to help, what area are you in

mumofdj - rupture is extremely rare in a 'normal' vaginal delivery but the risk goes up with each intervention.
The risk of something else going wrong is actually greater - something you're not often told and did happen to me. But that was nothing to do with it being a vbac. Birth is risky, sections are riskier (in general)
