I’ve never got that far and really want to know! How long does it take and what helps?

You know how when you have a vomiting bug and your body retches to be sick even when nothing is left in you...well exactly like that but rather than out your mouth, out of your vagina instead 😅

My first just felt like I needed to poo when I was upright. I'd been high as a kite for a few hours after some diamorphine, and for whatever reason the midwife decided I should try to go to the toilet. When I was on it, I couldn't wee, but did feel like I needed to poo. I was asked if I needed to push, to which the answer was no. I was too tired to stay upright, so was allowed to lie back down in the bed. The sensation went away, and I went back to sleep. Some time passed, and I was woken up telling me it was time to push. I had zero urge to, and with the drip turned off, the contractions disappeared. It was put back on, and I consciously pushed with each contraction, as I still had zero urge. Twenty minutes later I had my baby. I dunno if it because the diamorphine had worn off enough for me to be lucid, but was still in effect enough for pain relief (the gas+air was taken away), but I don't remember much pain. Certainly nothing like a ring of fire.

My second I had a similar sort of poo feeling, but it turned out it was a false sensation as I was only 4cm. Apparently this can happen with a back to back baby, as the back of their head presses against a nerve that doesn't get pressed with a correctly positioned baby until baby is much further down. That as far as it got though, as I wound up with a C-section when he got stuck.

I think this is the most accurate description of what it feels like😂 gross, but spot on.

It’s a bit like that feeling when you throw up - your body takes over and you can’t NOT do it, even if you wanted to. That’s why it was so bloody pointless when the midwife was telling me not to push (and yes I tore!)

Yesss exactly like this like the way your body will automatically throw up, the baby is getting pushed out,
My first (and only baby so far) was pushed out in 30 mins, the final 4 minutes is when I was going hell for leather with helping my body to push

DD1, I felt a click in my pelvis and then just this overwhelming surge and need to push.

DD2 it was a very strange feeling, almost like I had a sudden surge of heat, I thought something was wrong as had just been examined and was only 3cm, but turned out I'd gone to fully dilated in five mins
