Hello,
I'm 36 and expecting my second baby at the end of June.My first labour was very straightforward and gave birth after 6h of pushing. No epidural had no time for because the baby was coming quickly. My question is do they really come quicker second time around?Thank you.

Mine did. DC1 was 6 hours, DC2 4 hours,

bettynutkins · 21/04/2023 22:17

First was nearly 75 hours (9h active labour) Second was 3 hours from first contraction to birth.

violetskypurple · 21/04/2023 22:19

I hope not as DC1 came in under 2 hours!

bumbledeedum · 21/04/2023 22:20

Mine did, first I count as 16 hours, second as 3.5 hours from same starting point (first was induced, second natural so I'm counting from when I was noticeable and comfortably contracting)

SallyWD · 21/04/2023 22:21

Every single second labour I've heard about was much quicker. So many people told me they barely made it to the hospital in time. Mine however went on forever and kept stopping and starting.

KylieKangaroo · 21/04/2023 22:23

Yes much quicker and only just made it to hospital in time too.

Crunchingleaf · 21/04/2023 22:23

Number 1 I started getting contractions on a Saturday and baby born on Monday morning, active labour was over 12 hours. My second was an induction so I can’t compare the time, however number 3 was coming so fast that I barely had enough time to get to theatre for my c section.
It’s definitely very common for first labour to be the longest.

Chasingsquirrels · 21/04/2023 22:23

Mine was.
1st: 2 hrs
2nd: 15 mins

Scottishskifun · 21/04/2023 22:23

So mine was the opposite....DS1 was 5 hours DS2 was 12 hours but DS1 waters burst and I was straight in active labour, DS2 I had to be assessed on a triage unit and it was too clinical for me but because I was 4cm they wouldn't let me leave. As soon as I got into a relaxed environment of the pool he arrived in under 3 hours.

Holycow23x · 21/04/2023 22:24

Oh reading with interest, due in Aug. I was induced and it took 4 days and 13 hours of labour!

gallina · 21/04/2023 22:25

1st 9 hours (induced)
2nd 2 hours (induced)
3rd 2 hr 30 (natural)

I'm glad my labours are fast 😂

Wnikat · 21/04/2023 22:28

12 hours 1st time
5 hours second time

ButterflyBitch · 21/04/2023 22:29

Yes, my first labour was 17+ hours with at least 3 hours of pushing before intervention (can’t remember exactly when it started) and my second was 2 hours and 47 mins including 17 mins pushing.

I still remember my Nan telling me her 4th labour story and how she bet the midwife a bar of chocolate that she’d have my aunt within half an hour. She got that bar of chocolate. 😁 I thinkin general they get quicker each time.

Desperate1010 · 21/04/2023 22:31

Yes, first labour was 3 hours, 2nd was 9 minutes!

HappyMarriage · 21/04/2023 22:33

My first three labours were all 12 hours, I would advise you not to allow yourself to think that because it’s a second baby it’ll be quicker. I found it mentally much harder with my second two labours because I felt like it should be quicker than before so then when it wasn’t that was mentally very discouraging. For my fourth I was really strict with myself, not allowing myself to think it was nearly over, she was literally crowning before I allowed myself to think it was nearly over (incidentally that was a 4 hour labour)

sarahc336 · 21/04/2023 22:36

Erm mine was but only by about 4/5 hours. Nothing majorly different apart from I knew more of what to expect so in that sense it was easier.

StrikeItMucky · 21/04/2023 22:40

You were left to push for 6 hours??? 🤔

LemonBall · 21/04/2023 22:42

1- 48h induction
2- 40 mins from first twinge to DC in my arms

whoami24601 · 21/04/2023 22:47

Not for me Hmm

1st: 20 hours
2nd: 24 hours
3rd: 30 hours

So glad I'm a medical anomaly Hmm

bakewellbride · 21/04/2023 22:51

First labour was spontaneous and 16 hours. Second was induced and half that time! Pushing stage around 20 mins both times though. Good luck!

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/04/2023 22:52

First at 29, 32 hours. Second at 38, 2.5 hours.

Mynameisntrelevant · 21/04/2023 22:53

Yes dd1 I was 6 hours active labour. Ds1 I was induced and 3 hours- actually a bit too quick!

Bohoboo · 21/04/2023 22:58

Yes DD1 28 hours
DD2 20 mins established labour.

Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles · 21/04/2023 23:00

First 6ish hours.
Second slow early labour but once it ramped up I was holding her within 30 minutes

Dyra · 22/04/2023 01:11

No. But then I was induced both times. Going from the time the drip was started until birth.

DC1: 11.5 hours.
DC2: 16 hours. Only got to 5cm and had a C-section.
