I had a sweep at 38+2 and DS was born less than 36 hours later. I think your body has to be ready though so who knows if he would have been on his way regardless

I am offered a sweep at 38 weeks.

before I accept I will ask for them to calculate my bishop score.

if it’s very low I won’t do it, there is no point and it’s going to be painful. Means the body is not ready at all.

if the score it’s 7 or above it’s worth it. If it’s 6 or so I will talk to the doctor about pros and cons.

Yes I had at 39+5, went into labour the morning of my due date 2 days later. Was 1cm dilated when she did it and was painless!

DC1 I had a sweep at 41+5 and it all kicked off 24 hours later. I had an earlier sweep at 41 weeks but I panicked and they couldn’t do it properly. Second time I relaxed and knew instinctively it would work!!

Saying that, with DC2 I had a sweep at 38 weeks and nothing came of it. I did end up being advised to have a c-section though and DC2 arrived via section 39+4.

From my own and my friends experience it seems sweeps really are a good “nudge” once you go overdue. If you’re either before your due date or just hitting your due date they seem to have less success.

A while ago now but had a sweep at 3pm & dd was here by the next morning! I was 7 days overdue though.
