I think the baby is the wrong way around, ie OP (Ina May has been of help here).

So birth probably either not imminant, or long and painful.

I am so bloody fed up, I want to hug my kids and I can't, not really, not properly. I can't run around after them and I am grumpy.

And if ANYONE mentions sex I shall throw a large cup of cold decaff coffee in their face...

You don't need *. You need a walk, curry and raspberry leaf tablets. Good luck. Also, you could make some plans for some lovely things you would like to do and then baby will come along to stop you, hoping......

OP might mean long latent phase, which is good for you as gives more time for your mum to get to you

IME nothing works that is supposed to but i did plan a big shop and a bikini wax for the day before i actually gave birth and my waters broke early that day so i second the make some plans thing
i went to 41+4 before that though so no pearls of wisdom from me but alot of sympathies hang in there it will happen it is just bloody frustrating waiting (my birth was a OP birth and wasnt that bad. i used a tens machine so it took my focus off the back pain if you get me) hope you havent got too much longer to wait

seriously, they insist on it to determine dilation and crucially, active labour...any thoughts here good as I really don't relish it.

i told my MW (in liverpool) that i didnt want to be overly examined and said i would let her know when i wanted to be examined and she seemed perfectly happy to go along with this (i was huffing and puffing at the time though so maybe she didnt want to anger the beast) i ended up getting examined twice throughout the 15 hours i was in labour (from when my waters broke to birth iyswim) it is your body so therefore your choice

Irealy sympathise, I went 2 weeks overdue, was sick of suggestions and sick of people asking if i was in labour yet every time they rang. Hang in there, is op back 2 back? if so that was me too, managed ok though, only 2 incidents of hands up my fanjo as far as I remember, 6 hour labour and only gas and air, my dh did constabtly rub my back through the whole labour though which really helped... It'll happen soon and being fed up will be a distant memory - I know thats not much help at the moment. Good luck x

Were you late with your others? It's horrible isn't it sitting there feeling like a rather fat chicken desperate to lay an egg? I remember it well.

As everyone has said whatever you do, it will happen soon. Go read something funny online to distract yourself. A watched pot never boils over or some such inanity

I am sure its back to back.

I am getting exactly the same horrible backache as I did with dd, and with dd it lasted DAYS before I went into labour. Oh plus I can actually FEEL the feet, and arms, at the front, which is a bit of a giveaway really .

I am really getting sad about this, ds really really wanted to see at least part of the birth, he's been reading up on it and is desperate to do it, but tbh the last time (with dd) was so incredibly painful that I think I will have to consider an epidural, and I doubt they will allow a 4 year old on the wards . And we just can't work out logistically how to have him with me if I end up in the MLU-the only way would be for dp to attend to him, including taking him home if need be, while my mother kept dd at home...

Thanks for all suggestions. Have been doing lots of crawling and so on for ages because I wanted to avoid this happening, but there ARE things in there I haven't done.

am sorry, am feeling quite sad and emotional about this atm, my experience of an OP labour was that it was just awful (although not as bad as some. I mean, I did give birth naturally in about 4 hours, so wft am I complaining about really )

I think I'd best go and knit dp a hat for valentine's day.

Oh, I'm crap at remembering the proper names for things at the moment but my midwife spoke to me about small saline injections you can have in your back if the pain there is really too much. I was really worried I wouldn't cope with it (all my period pain is usually in my back).

Maybe, if someone else knows the proper name for what I'm on about, that might be an alternative to epidural for you if it does turn out to be a backache labour?

I sympathise. I went 8 days over with ds2 after a) having had ds1 at 38 weeks, b) spending half the pregnancy being warned direly about cervical shortness and prem labour.

I'm sorry about the OP I didn't have that, but I did have to labour alone (the whole half-an-hour between arriving at hospital and birth ).

DD was persistent OP, apart from a long latent stage, it was bearable, with pethidine and gas & air .. and my first baby was emergency c.s with diamorphone and epidural, so this was the first time i had really felt labour...and it was copeable with.!

now, you know what you are up against,you know that things might be slower, that you will have a sore back, and you can deal with that, as you know it is going to happen.....you can prepare and do things!

try not to get so het up, before you know it, baby will be here, trite, but true !! you have done the long hard slog of 9 months, so just rellllllaxxxxxxx!

Can you book tickets for the theatre or a restuarant or something - don;t worry you won;t go cos as soon as you plan a day or night out that you;re really looking forward to the baby will come! Good luck

filly my first labour was op - 33 hours of agony and pain relief, second pregnancy i was a nervous wreck as dd2 was also op. i cried when i went into hospital as i was only 2 cm. 3 hours later she was born, with no need for pain relief (well i did ask for pethedine but by the time she came back with it my waters broke and i went from 3cm to fully dilted in 20 mins), 10 minutes pushing and as she came out it was me who saw her first and me who got to say it's a girl! good luck xx
