Last meal before C-Section... what would you have?

Lighthearted or serious answers I'm open 😂

Trying to plan what would be a good last meal before surgery? Have to have my last meal no later than 10pm and probably won't eat again until the following afternoon.

I'm thinking something high carb to keep me full, DH suggested a takeaway but I'm scared it'll cause issues for the surgery and assuming it's probably better to have an actually nutritious meal right before a major op 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had a huge peri chicken and rice washed down with fat coke . Didn’t eat hospital food after my section , just crisps and stuff. He was born at 2am and I discharged us at 8pm that night. I had a steak, mushrooms , chips and a whacking great glass of red wine and slept for 12 hours on that. I was an experienced mum and knew DS was really strong and DH was already well trained due to being the oldest of a large family. He was perfectly capable of keeping him fed and clean and so I had an amazing Kip and the next day we took baby to the pub to meet a few relatives . I never got constipated after my section. I ate a lot of watermelon and drank proper coffee which I suspect helped .

The dream isn't it 🤭 this third baby was the best one I took home!! So relaxed

Ds was the first birth I had a reliable partner to accompany me and DHs only biological child so I let him have that first cuddle first bottle and first 48 hrs really. It was nice to get some rest and feel okay before having to perform the duties of motherhood !
the baby before I’d given birth to alone and been kicked out of hospital 6 hrs later to care for completely alone at the tender age of 17 so the difference was incredible ! I remember the first days with DD being just a whirlwind of panic and tears and sore bleeding nipples. DS first days were hot meals , wine , books and sleep. Definitely the way to go!

PritiPatelsMaker · 16/11/2022 21:21

If it's your first I'd definitely go out, just the two of you and have a couple of hours together.

It might be a while before you get the chance again. Look at you DS 👀

Went with a Chinese takeaway, going into hospital for 11am. Hoping it's not a huge wait for surgery after reading some of your stories regarding getting pushed back! 🤞🏼

I had a massive carb fest Chinese.

Ooh, me too!

twattingelsa · 17/11/2022 07:45

Good luck OP!

MummyJ36 · 17/11/2022 07:57

Good luck OP! I was the third of three ELCS on the day of my section and only ended up waiting 4 hours from arrival to going into theatre so it might not be too much of a wait!

Herejustforthisone · 17/11/2022 09:26

Salad and soup?! What an awful suggestion.

I had an absolute fuck ton of sushi. Loads of it. And chocolate.

FebMama · 17/11/2022 13:15

Good luck OP! Please let us know how you get on? Love a bit of new baby news!

You've got me thinking ahead to my ELCS now. I'm thinking a big fat Nandos... 😁

ShadowPuppets · 17/11/2022 13:20

I was booked for ELCS on the Tuesday and had a lovely pasta and glass of wine combo on Monday night. As it was they kept pushing me back and back due to emergencies and only at 5pm told me ‘it’ll need to be tomorrow, can you head home and come back at 8am?’. I had been concerned about constipation (terrible issues after DD’s vaginal birth the previous year) but after a full day with no food and the emotional letdown of a cancelled section, my final meal actually wound up being a giant McDonald’s eaten in the car while sobbing like the heavily pregnant emotional woman I was 😂

HowBerryPeachy · 17/11/2022 14:30

Still waiting to go to theatre, 3rd on the list today. Number 1 is currently in surgery so still a while to wait yet.

Good luck OP! I remember that wait all too well. Hope you’ve got some distractions with you. Not long until you meet your little one! Xxx

Herejustforthisone · 17/11/2022 16:03

You must be starving 😟

HowBerryPeachy · 17/11/2022 16:52

Still waiting 😭 I'm ravenous, probably won't get to eat until tomorrow now

FebMama · 17/11/2022 17:14

Oh no OP! How frustrating. Thinking of you! If not happening today then surely they will send you home for the night and ask you to return tomorrow? You may get a chance at a second "last meal" 😬

Oh god I’m so sorry, as someone who was in the same boat per my post above it was hell! I hope you either have 1) a very cute tiny newborn or 2) a massive pizza in your hands right now. Although probably 1) over 2) 😂

HowBerryPeachy · 18/11/2022 05:37

We were ready to go down at 6pm but unfortunately they had another emergency. Ended up going home, it got to 7pm and there was still no sign of a space for us to go in so they offered us to come back this morning and be second on the morning surgery list.
I thoroughly enjoyed my second last meal and made sure I had my 4am snack 😂

Let's hope today goes to plan!

Good luck for today! My section was unplanned so didn't get a 'last' meal but I would definitely have gone for a massive Chinese.

PritiPatelsMaker · 18/11/2022 07:21

Good luck for today! Flowers

FebMama · 18/11/2022 07:45

@HowBerryPeachy good luck!

Out of curiosity (and keeping in line with the theme of the thread), what was your second "last" meal and 4am snack?! 🤣

HowBerryPeachy · 18/11/2022 07:47

Thank you ☺️
@FebMama I ate the leftover Chinese from my original last meal 🤣 it was delicious! I forced myself awake at 4am for a nature valley bar. Think I was lying down half asleep eating it bur there's no way I'm risking a similar situation to yesterday!

FebMama · 18/11/2022 07:54

@HowBerryPeachy sounds delish! And I don't blame you. Good shout on the 4am snack. Definitely going to take a leaf out of your book when it's time for my ELCS.

Looking forward to hearing your wonderful news fingers crossed it happens sooner rather than later!

HowBerryPeachy · 18/11/2022 11:03

Not to plan so far. Feeling so deflated now. Been here 4 hours and so far only 1 person has been down to theatre. They didn't put me second on the list as what was agreed, instead it looks like I'll be last.

This date was brought forward a whole 2 weeks due to IUGR (decided on Monday) and they contemplated doing it the next day. They had no space until Thursday (yesterday) so that was booked but obviously didn't happen.

I spoke to the midwife this morning and told her I'm feeling super drained, it's going on 2 days without food and I was promised I'd be second as first lady diabetic (understandable of course) yet the lady given second place on the list has a breech baby and that's all.

Wishing I'd stayed late last night, that way I'd be closer to being back home with my family. 😭

I had Domino's pizza a few hours before mine but it was an EMCS so I was in the delivery room bouncing on a birthing ball at the time 😁
