To VBAC or not to VBAC that is the question ......

I had emCS with DD at 40 wks due to her being breech and not responding to contractions. On delivery, she wasonly 4lb13oz, was resuscitated and ended up with a collapsed lung, spending 2 wks on scbu with various other complications along the way. DD is absolutely fine now and a bouncing 18month old.

I am now 9/40 and am rather nervous of everything ! Not sure I trust the midwives (previous midwife had been telling me head was engaged for 6 wk prior to delivery, and had guessed DD was going to be 8lb almost). Thinking of either swapping to another midwife group or just askng to be seen at hospital only.

Also nervous about trying a VBAC but nervous too of another CS.

What do you reckon ??

cinnamon.. do you know how your baby was presenting? that can have a bearing on dilation....

there is nothing, IMO, that should stop you going for a HBAC..

failure to progress is such a silly catch all term.. and often the failure to progress is down the the way labour is managed , rather than letting the woman get on with it.....

i had a great VBAC after em c.s for failure to progress.....read as much as you can , educate yourself, get a great doula ( liek mars!! ) AIMS and hombirth.org.uk have good stuff about this

lulu.... she had me last time! lol and even if she were to move home (across the world) I'd be there for the second.

Lulumama · 11/02/2008 11:32

i know!! you shall just have to go international! you shall need a cape, of course, and pants over your trousers naturally !

cinnamontam · 11/02/2008 23:41

Thanks Lulumama. If Mars ain't around for the next one then rest assured I shall come looking for you

I've given it alot of thought and I think it went 'tits up' (in a very gentle way) because of the following:

  1. I was so convinced I was going to be overdue (no rational reasoning) and with my Mum arriving 3 days before my due date from Oz for only 3 weeks I ate my bodyweight in pineapple, raspberry tea, curry and got poor old DH to shag me ALL BEFORE MY DUE DATE - next time I will just go with the flow and let the LO come when it's good and ready
  2. I spent many hours slouched on our very comfy soft sofa - next time I will be on the exercise ball from 5 months on when not on my feet
  3. Thought waters had broken when it fact was a hind water leak - next time get gorgeous male midwife with extremely long fingers to confirm a definite water leak
  4. Went into hospital - stay at home

There endeth the self diagnosis xx

Oh Mars...The life where I go into labour the same time you have your next fabulous holiday and the planes won't let me on board huffing and puffing to join you for a sea birth

MarsLady · 12/02/2008 22:40

Once I know your EDD I wouldn't dream of taking a holiday (unless Taye Diggs or Clive Owen come knocking then all bets are off!)

Lulumama · 12/02/2008 22:44

so shallow mars..... i see am going to have to move down south to keep you in line !!

CT- sounds like you know what's what, and nothing desperately went wrong, so you know what to do this time !

go for it!
