Waters breaking pre-labour; experiences?

I'm 41+3 with my second. I did not go overdue with my first so this is new and frankly appalling territory 🙈

If your waters went before you went into labour did you have a lot of downward pressure beforehand? Did you have an inkling it was going to happen?

With DD I remember the intense pressure and they went in the middle of a contraction. But, I'd been going for ages by that point so it wasn't a surprise. This time I've been having teasing contractions for TWO WEEKS 😫 and today occasional sharp pain in my cervix on walking in my cervix and stronger downward pressure. Wondering if it's a sign my waters might go tonight and we can finally get this show on the road 🤞

No inkling here, at 38+4 waters broke in the middle of the night

Only signs were my plug started coming away but that was all leading up to it

CorpusCallosum · 13/03/2022 22:07

Plug has been coming away for 2 weeks, I think it just keeps growing back 🤦‍♀️ this baby is in no hurry!

Waters broke ore labour both times... Both times no warning other than floods of water 🤣

bluebird3 · 13/03/2022 22:15

I had my daughter at 41 and 2 but waters never broke on their own. The hospital broke them after I was in labour for 36 hours.

CorpusCallosum · 13/03/2022 22:18

😒 You guys are not the encouraging chorus I was hoping for!

...Better get some sleep while I still can 😉

Have you tried a vigorous shag?? This is the best way to bring it on. My waters went before labour started all 3 times - first 2 times out of nowhere, with DC3 I had an inkling that it would happen as I'd been having strong braxton hicks all week and then I had what my mother would call 'the wild shites' so it felt imminent.

MrsBlondie · 13/03/2022 22:26

Waters broke 38 weeks with my second. No warning at all. Labour started few hours later.
Good luck

Isonthecase · 13/03/2022 22:35

Sad to say I had contractions for ages with my second too. Even went to hospital thinking I was in labour! He finally arrived two weeks later and waters went during labour.

On the other hand, I think it does prepare your body as it was MUCH quicker and less painful than my first.

You have my sympathy, being later with a second was not fun.

CorpusCallosum · 14/03/2022 08:35

Another good nights sleep here 🤦‍♀️

I was contracting till about midnight and allowed myself to get my hopes up again then it alllll fizzled out. Le sigh.

My waters broke on a Sunday night at 5 to 12, no plug before hand no pressure. Didn't even get my first cramp untill 12 in the afternoon the next day. And I gave birth the morning after that at half two,
Good luck

AnotherNC22 · 14/03/2022 11:08

My waters broke before labour at 37+6. I had been doing some colostrum harvesting the night before and im pretty sure that is what caused it? I woke up the next day at around 5.30ish, hotfooted it to the loo thinking i had wet myself and my waters went in a massive gush, hollywood style. The only sign i had was the day before, i had been absolutely exhausted. As in having a nap at 9am exhausted.

I was told if labour hadn't started within 24hrs, i would be induced, but contractions started at about 10.30pm that night. Then DD born lunchtime the following day.

Thejoyfulstar · 14/03/2022 11:14

At 36 weeks and 3 days, my dad looked at my bump and said 'that child is coming early'. I went to bed and the next morning, my waters started pouring down my legs. No other warning. My waters went suddenly with my eldest too at 40 weeks and 3 days. Contractions never started with either and had to be induced with both.

Thewindwhispers · 14/03/2022 11:17

My waters came slowly as a trickle about a week before labour. I didn’t think much of it but when I got to hospital they said 😬 that’s an infection risk and they were right I did get a post-birth infection (despite the antibiotics they gave me!), so keep an eye on things and keep your midwives informed.

Snoringmonkey · 14/03/2022 11:28

My waters went at 39+5 with DS2, I had no pains or pressure before but had been losing bits of my plug all week. We had been out playing crazy golf with DS1 that morning, came home and spent the rest of the day relaxing and my waters went at 3pm.. no pains until about 10pm that night and DS2 was born the next afternoon.

Mamabear04 · 14/03/2022 22:01

My waters broke at 37+5. I woke up at 3am and felt a pop, had a second where I thought I'd wet myself and then realised the floods of water wasn't stopping! No pressure, no pains just all of a sudden without any warning!

Mamabear04 · 14/03/2022 22:02

Sorry 38+5!!! That's 9 days early right? It's all a blur! Grin

NewNormalLife · 14/03/2022 22:06

maybe not the right thing to do but I remember purposely rolling onto my belly a bit while I'm bed to see if it would do anything. a couple of hours they popped in bed. it was almost 12 hours before I felt a contraction. I was 40 + 1

Halo1234 · 14/03/2022 22:13

41 plus 2 weeks with my second. Was about to go to sleep. Felt a little pressure which made me stand up and waters broke. No contractions before had. Baby was born about 14 hours later.

Pumpkinstace · 14/03/2022 22:16

My waters went like they do in Hollywood.

I leaned forwards to pick up the remote off the coffee table and my waters went.

Contractions started about 5 minutes later and DD was born 3.5hrs after the waters went.

All very textbook... except I was 31 weeks.

Buddywoo · 14/03/2022 22:17

I had felt a bit off all day and stood up after supper to load the dishwasher and felt a pop then a flood.
It was 27 hours before I had any contractions.

CorpusCallosum · 15/03/2022 16:52

Such varied experiences, turns out there's no normal to birth - who knew?! 😅

Still waiting here. V uncomfortable today, can hardly walk without shooting pains up my cervix (TMI sorry!). Going in for first stage of induction tomorrow, hoping it's enough to just tip my body into labour 🤞🤞🤞

My waters broke at 5pm on Tuesday last week. Had no warning it would happen, spent the morning doing housework and was in the middle of sorting the moses basket out when i felt my waters go. It ended up only being part of my waters as had it go again when getting out the car at hospital & again in the hospital.

My little man was born at 11:53 on Wednesday last week.

CorpusCallosum · 15/03/2022 20:23

Congrats @mrscotton hope you're both doing ok 🙂

I'm just starting to get some juicy contractions so 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Waters broke in huge Hollywood style a day or two before or on due date . Then, nothing …… and nothing ….. more nothing ….. and induced. Rinse and repeat for every pregnancy. Every. Single. Time

What I didn’t appreciate was how quickly my body produced replacement amniotic fluid, think sitting in constant soaked incontinence pants having to be replaced a few times an hour and it still leaking down legs for a good day. Horrendous.
