TENS machine - which one?

does anyone have any experience of using a TENS machine? i'm giving birth jan 20th and wanted to get one but wasn't sure if some makes were very good and others rubbish! thanks!

The midwife who ran my antenatal classes at the hospital recommended Mama Tens - google search should find them. I have rented one, but only 37 weeks so haven't tried it out yet

rented a tens machine (Mama i think) from boots, very happy with it.

Not all TENS machines are the same. Don't get one without a boost button or you will have wasted your money. I got the right one from Bumpto3 and it was fab.

thanks ladies, i am thinking of getting one on ebay. it looks like some aren't just childbirth specific - you can use them for slimming afterwards!! is this right?

god its boring being in on nYE! my husband is watching boy films and i can't even drink through it!

I aren't having any more children but having used 2 completely different TENs machines, and being trained in hiring them out for Boots, I feel qualified to say the bumpto3 one was the best.

I liked the mamatens one

I liked the boost function

I got it from mothercare the first time and tesco the second time.

yes, apparently tens can be used for slimming as they speed up metabolism?? hmmmm, maybe its wishful thinking....

make sure you get one that is specifically for childbirth as the others don't have the boost (or so I understand it). You can use them for various things afterwards, including muscle toning I think, but I'm not sure about slimming!

Quite right. I got my first one from Mothercare that said it was suitable for labour and it so wasn't.

I had a Boots one, it had a boost but by the time I'd had help to get the pads on it was on boost the whole time. It definitely, definitely helped. Not sure about it vis-a-vis other brands but it was easy to get and return being from Boots.

Hi ladies,
I live in Germany and get advance advertising from a company called Tchibo, they do mail order in UK too.

Just happened to notice that they have TENS machine on offer next week, no idea if it is any use for childbirth, but it might be worth a look. Tchibo Tens

They are advertising it as pain relief for OAPs. They also have a waterproof mattress cover, for anyone worried about their waters breaking

I used the boots one on loan from a cousin, I would say don't economise, definitely get the proper childbirth one, and make sure you have extra batteries with you in the hospital.. It is a fab device and really helped me, it makes the first bit of labour bearable. It's really good!
