Induction tomorrow, nervous!!

Hey all, I am due to be induced tomorrow with my first baby and the nerves are starting to really kick in! I think I'm most worried about if/how long DP is going to be able to be with me?! I'm really fretting about having to do it on my own. Has anyone else had an experience of an induction recently with the covid situation?

Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated haha!

I've not had experience of an induction or a birth during the Pandemic but just wanted to wish you the best of luck.

I think it's also pretty normal to feel a bit nervous the day before Thanks

MamaMolly · 26/10/2021 08:17

Hi OP,
I'm in the same boat as you! Being taken in for induction today! I've been told my husband can't be with me during the induction stage but can come in the minute I'm moved to the labour ward so can be present for all of actual labour and birth. It's so daunting to have to do the first part alone I know. Sending you lots of super mama strength! We can do this! Smile

Hey, congratulations!! I had an induction back in July with my first as she was measuring big on the scale, however she came out a perfect 8lb 6oz! We were induced at 9am on the Sunday and she was born 8pm Monday evening. I really cannot fault the care of all the midwives, they were absolutely brilliant. I was allowed my other half in all day but visiting hours were 8am-8pm so he wasn't allowed to stay overnight, however if you're in active labour after 8pm they're allowed to stay with you! Wishing you all the best!
Hathertonhariden · 26/10/2021 08:31

The first attempt doesn't always work but it helps to walk around to make it kick in. If it doesn't work they can try a second dose later in the day which works for most people. You can't have more than 2 lots of the drug in 24hrs so in that case they may ask you to stay overnight and try again in the morning. This happened to me but not during covid.

Be prepared for being in there a few days rather than a quick in and out and stay as active as you can. Good luck!

Good luck! Be prepared, with it being a first baby, for it to take a while. If you have the pessary go for a walk/bounce on ball etc. Hopefully will get things going.
If you need the drip definitely ask about pain relief options - either have an epidural then and there or check how easily it will be to get one if you decide to have one.
I remember going into my induction hoping that I would have a hypnobirthing water birth after the pessary. I was disappointed and ended up with all the drugs and forceps. However forceps healed very quickly (don’t worry about the horror stories, loads of first time mums have assisted births) and I was treated very well by the medical staff. It would have been much better if I had gone in accepting from the off that I was very likely to have a medicalised birth. Pros are that you are closely monitored, chances of a healthy baby and mum at the end are very high.
First time births can be a slog with or without induction. Just had my second and I didn’t even make it to hospital in time, was so quick!

Vallmo47 · 26/10/2021 09:20

Good luck today OP. I was induced with my second as she was measuring large and was 2 weeks overdue , but this was pre pandemic. I’m glad to hear your partner can join when it becomes ‘official Labour’. Before that stage, I honestly felt like my partner was just in the way/annoying me. 😂
Congratulations and let us know how it all went!

MamaMolly · 26/10/2021 09:59

@PanicBuyingSprouts thanks so much! Smile

I was induced and it all happened really quick. My partner was sent home and I had to ring him to come quick in the middle of the night, he made it just as I started to push. This was pre covid. Like any labour, you can't plan it, it does what it does

Blackmagicqueen · 26/10/2021 15:24

I have had 2 syntocin drip inductions op but not through covid. Just remember whatever happens you will have your beautiful baby at the end of it who will be super excited to meet Mummy! Flowers

Bennetgirl · 26/10/2021 15:45

Good luck 🤞🏻 I’m hoping for an induction next week with no 4.

Did they say If you were dilated at all when the pessary went in?

MamaMolly · 26/10/2021 16:02

@PL2021 how exciting! How are you feeling? I'm not in til 8pm tonight - sending you lots of good vibes!!

GOOD LUCK! Grin

Hope it all goes smoothly and you're holding your baby soon!

PL2021 · 26/10/2021 17:58

I wasn't dilated unfortunately, however she said the cervix was soft and not too thick. I'm feeling okay so far, couple of niggly pains here and there so hopefully that's the start of things getting moving!

My partner has just left, I cried like a baby when he left hahaha, feeling very emotional being on my own. Praying it doesn't go on for tooooo long!

Good luck for tonight @MamaMolly xx

Aww I can just imagine! I will be the exact same when my husband leaves too! But we got this - and hopefully it'll be no time at all til you're phoning him and telling him to come back in to the labour suite!! Smile

Bennetgirl · 26/10/2021 20:16

I’d be the same 😩 Enjoy your peace and quiet and try to get some sleep. Have they said what tomorrows plan is?

PL2021 · 26/10/2021 21:30

Aww thank ladies. The lower back pain is really starting to kick in now Shock

They haven't mentioned any plans for tomorrow yet, I have another CTG planned for 1am! But that's all that's been mentioned so far xx

ByeBumpHiBaby · 26/10/2021 21:44

Ah the lower back pain was a bitch!

Not sure how induction works, if you can move freely etc but I found a hot shower directed on my lower back really helped with that pain Smile

MamaMolly · 27/10/2021 06:12

Hope you're doing ok @PL2021 ! I've been in since last night, had my 1st pessary and have been having contractions for the last hour. Had to be examined by 2 midwives and then the doctor because they couldn't be sure it was the head they were feeling Envy OUCH! But I'm now 3cm dilated and just waiting to be taken to get my waters broken! Hope all is going well with you!

PL2021 · 27/10/2021 06:53

@MamaMolly Wow congratulations that's gone super quick for you! I've been having contractions all night, barely slept at all. Been given paracetamol and codeine but haven't been re examined yet to see if I'm dilated. I might ask soon if they can examine me because the pains are getting worse and my lower back is aching like mad now. Happy it's all going smoothly for you!! Xx
