OK people, i think this is it!

I've been having a show since 7.30am which has not stopped at all. I've had a period-type ache all day in my tummy with slight back ache. At about 6.30pm i crashed out on the sofa and then decided to take myself up to bed for a bit coz i was soooo tired. Now i'm having mild contractions, but i've not been timing them so i'm not sure how far apart they are yet. Will get the contraction timer on the go i think!

I'll keep you posted!

Santasmissyontheside · 05/12/2007 20:13

shes gorgeous!! sigh

maxbear · 05/12/2007 21:21

Congratulations, mw who told you to give formula has obviously not been to a breastfeeding update for a while. You should complain to the trust about it it is shocking. Stick to your guns, most healthy term infants of a good weight can go 2 or 3 days with very little milk without any problems at all.

becklesparkle · 05/12/2007 21:41

RG, she's gorgeous! Well done you!

RGPargy · 06/12/2007 08:46

Hi everyone

Thought i'd share my birth story with you

Well i'm back and my daughter is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! We are so proud of her, she's a little angel! She doesn't cry for very long but when she does, she gets really stroppy (like her mum)

Anyway, here's my birth story:

As you'll know from the labour thread, i'd had a show Tuesday morning which basically didn't let up at all. DP got me to phone the hospital at around 9pm just to let them know what was going on (i'm far too laid back for my own good). The contractions at this point were coming about every 10-15 minutes and lasting for about 30 seconds. I was told to ring back when they were about 5-7 minutes apart and so an hour later i was on the phone to them again. A midwife eventually turned up at 11.30pm to assess me and told me i was 3-4cm dilated. By this time my hind waters had started to leak a bit so i knew it was deffo going to be soon.

It got to about 12.30am and the contractions started to become alot more painful (hence the lack of posting lol). Then at about 1.45am the mw suggested i get on my knees and lean over the sofa to try and ease some pain. So i got down on my knees, leant over and then POP GUSH !!!!! My waters well and truly broke (thank goodness for the plastic sheeting from the pool!) and i felt really helpless being on all fours with all this stuff gushing out of me! The mw noticed that there was meconium (sp?) in my waters and then told me i couldn't go in the pool. GUTTED!! By this point however, i was in far too much pain to really care and couldn't move much anyway!

She called for a second mw at this point (!!!) and then told me to resist any urges to push for as long as possible. I held off for as long as possible and could feel the baby slowly moving down my birth canal. It was the weirdest, most amazing feeling!! It got to the point when i could feel the baby's head getting extremely close to coming out so i told the mw that i didn't think i could hold on for any longer. She told me go ahead and push and I felt the head easing it's way out. Apparently DP said it was so surreal when he saw this little face looking up at him from me! So then i pushed her shoulders out and she shot out!

And what was the first thing i said?!! "OH MY GOD!! IT'S A BABY!!" I think that despite all the scans, the kicks etc i still didn't quite believe that this little person was going to come out of me!

Oh I should mention that i did it all WITHOUT ANY PAIN RELIEF WHATSOEVER

I had to have stitches because of second degree tearing, but to be honest, it wasn't that bad and i finally managed to have some G&A for that!!

All in all it was a wonderful experience which DP and I will obviously remember for the rest of our lives. We've both been like blubbering grinning mad people since she's been born. It's wonderful!!!

I love birth stories!

hunkermunker · 06/12/2007 09:45

Brilliant, RGP! Lovely birth story - and so glad bfing's going well. Do complain about the midwife when you get a moment - she shouldn't be telling women this. What you experienced was a normal start to your bfing relationship and her advice was undermining and plain wrong.

belgo · 06/12/2007 09:47

that's a great birth story, well done

MaeWestYeMerryGentlemen · 06/12/2007 09:50

RGPargy · 06/12/2007 12:49

Thanx everyone!

Wow RG - great birth story.

She's lovely and I love her name.

Well done you.

whispywhisp · 06/12/2007 12:55

Ellie Rose is a lovely name. xx

Jbck · 06/12/2007 22:19

RGP just seen your post, congratulations, you can finally get on that November post-natal thread for real. I've seen you sniffing the wee babies & sneaking out . My DD is Elliot but we're calling her Ellie as well, unfortunately this has led to lots of names like Smelly Ellie, Ellie Smellypants. Still love the name tho'.
Congrats again & well done on the no pain relief you are tough!

RGPargy · 06/12/2007 23:09

awww thanx everyone. I'll make sure to tell Ellie that if anyone calls her Smellie Ellie to give 'em what for!!!

Well, Ellie had a mammoth 15-20 minute feeding session earlier today, it was wonderful!! I'm not sure if she is latched on correctly or not as i've not BF before but it's not really painful as such, but i can feel her sucking away, which is a strange sensation! So then four hours later i put her to my breast again and she sucked for maybe 2 or 3 times and fell asleep again lol. Hopefully she'll have another good go before bed.

RGPargy · 06/12/2007 23:13

Oh and she did a massive meconium pooey nappy earlier too. She does tend to have wind tho and farts like a trooper sometimes and they dont half stink!!! This is normal, yes?

OP posts:
Jbck · 06/12/2007 23:53

Why do you think we call her Smellie Ellie lol.
My Ellie will not bf but she is getting as much expressed milk as I can get out of my poor boobies & yes the poos stink. She is also getting formula as my supply is starting to dwindle unfortunately but I remember DD1 being petty stinky when she was only getting breastmilk too.
Of course if anyone but me, DH or DD1 called her anything other than angelic they'd have to answer to us!

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 07/12/2007 07:35

RG - when B was smaller (nearly 8 mths now) we used to hear her in the carry-cot - nearly waking, grunt, sigh, snort, grunt - then HUGE FART - then silence, back to sleep. Very funny

Sounds like you are doing great with the b/feeding - just keep putting her on, she will get better at it, you will produce more and more milk - it will all come together

skidaddle · 07/12/2007 11:46

RG - sounds like bf is going great and lots of farting is def normal! Have you thought about getting a bf counsellor round just to check you have the best possible latch and answer any questions you might have? I never did this with dd and now think I never had as good a latch as I should have which meant very very long feeds!

RGPargy · 07/12/2007 12:16

Hi Skid

I think i will get a BF counsellor in, but i'm going to wait til my milk's in first. My boobs are so soft and squishy at the moment which is what is causing me possible problems. Ellie also favours one side to the other as my nipple doesn't seem to be as erect on one side as it is on the other which makes it difficult for her to latch. Perhaps i need to find a slightly way to hold her on that side and/or give my nipple some tweakage before i put her on?
