Horrific constipation 35 weeks

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/09/2021 13:25

Has anyone tried Laxido for major constipation and did it work for you?
I'm 35 weeks and horrifically constipated, just battled on the loo for nearly an hour, given myself some new arse grapes in the process by the looks of it. Had to resort to some manual removal which I do occassionally due to a lovely rectocele I got after my first birth. Sending DP to the pharmacy when he finishes work and would love some recommendations! I'm a desperate woman right now! 😂

I will add I'm on iron tablets and Codeine for PGP so I'm guessing that's the cause of my constipation right now! Grr.

I’m 30 weeks and was in a similar boat earlier this week/last week. I believe laxido is safe in pregnancy, I would check with the midwife first. I spoke with to my GP who said I could take up to three sachets of fybogel a day, and he also said senokot was safe to take (pharmacist advised most laxatives could trigger uterine contractions but GP wasn’t concerned on this). I’ve also massively increased my fluids and I’m constantly peeing but it seems to have helped…

JuneOsborne · 02/09/2021 13:30

Sounds horrendous.

Have you tried:
Prunes and prune juice. It tastes fine, despite the murky browness of it!
Shit loads of water?
Glycerin suppositories?
Knees up on a stool when you're on the loo?
A bath with bubbles?
A GP phone appointment?
A coffee?

Could you have a break from the codeine for a few hours/a day and manage with paracetamol?

In all seriousness, your GP should be able to prescribe what you need. I know that many people can't get appointments ATM, but mine are fab over the phone.

You poor thing. Hope it resolves soon.

ivykaty44 · 02/09/2021 13:35

Laxido

But prune juice 3x per day in a glass

Was the best cure for constipation that had become unmanageable
Walking
And phylum husk - but check if you can have this when pregnant

ivykaty44 · 02/09/2021 13:36

I’ll add the prune juice surpassed the gp seriously strong prescription laxatives

Seriously good effect over a few days

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/09/2021 13:38

Thank you ladies for replying.

@FrangipanFlower I've been taking one Senokot a day for a few days now but to no avail. I'm constantly peeing anyway but I probably should up my intake of water as I dont drink nearly enough. Awful I know.

@JuneOsborne I'm thinking a carton of Prune juice to be honest, not sure how I feel about it as even the thought makes me boke but I'll try anything right now.
I have one coffee in a morning which usually makes me go but the past couple of days it hasn't touched the sides.
I'll be honest I've only just been prescribed codeine for my PGP this week, I'm trying to limit it to one or two doses a day alongside of paracetemol (I can barely walk atm) I was reluctant to take anything stronger than Paras but they weren't touching the pain.

Thank you for your advice lovelies! X

Movicol

I actually got an enema in the end from amazon and it's so embarrassing but it really did help with my horrific impactions I was getting on opiates and iron together

glycerin suppositories but you should attack it from the top first with movicol

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/09/2021 13:40

@cultkid Oh I've got no shame after having to stick a digit up my arse to manually remove shit, an enema might actually be a bit more dignified tbh haha!

Kdubs1981 · 02/09/2021 13:47

I always used to take prune juice with iron tablet. Bloody awful but v effective

cultkid · 02/09/2021 13:54

It was the black one I got

It stopped me having to go to hospital to have an enema get one on prime don't force yourself today take the movicol do 6 sachets

And then take two a day after that whilst you're on the codeine and iron it's a total bastard

That will break the poo up too but be ware of the mess it makes you will need to lay down on puppy pads in the loo to do it or poo water might go everywhere

It saved me and my bum

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/09/2021 13:59

@cultkid I'm definitely going to look it up, thank you!
I cannot even bring myself to push for a poo again today, I've pretty much turned myself inside out and my poor bum is a right mess atm. I've lathered Anusol on and waiting for my DP to come home from work so I can sit in an Epsom Salt bath whilst he watches DD.
God pregnancy eh? I'm not having anymore after this, no way! 🙈

Coffee, coffee & more coffee, hot, strong, black & brown sugar was the only thing that worked for me when I was constipated at 30 weeks, everything else gave me stomach pains that rated nearly as bad as being in labour. Drink it as hot as you can, don't sip, gulp it down & then walk around, it never took more than an hour to work.

rosesandsalvia · 02/09/2021 15:04

If you econsult the GP they will prescribe laxido so you don't have to pay for it. I started taking a sachet with each iron tablet, then increase or decrease, but you can take several together if you have a large blockage Smile

Plumtree391 · 02/09/2021 15:11

Oh my, I sympathise. I was constipated nearly all my life (it virtually disappeared after I had a baby, I think I was more relaxed in some ways), and very much so when I was pregnant. We used to take Senokot in those days :-).

The only thing I can say is that when giving birth it seemed as though I'd been doing it for years, was something of a doddle compared to many.

Iron and codeine certainly do bung you up.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/09/2021 15:17

Thanks for all your advice and sympathies ladies! Cant do econsult with my GP sadly but DP is gonna pick me up some Laxido and prune juice today so I'll test the waters with that!
I'm booked in for a section this time thank god. Had a horrific recovery after my birth with DD and what with my PGP this time, I dont think I could go through with another natural birth anyway! Is it sad I am actually looking forward to being numb for a few hours! 😆

Glycerine suppositories. Push 3 of them as high as you can get them - really high! . Lie down with feet up, and wait for the magic to start.

HotPenguin · 02/09/2021 15:50

Oh I feel for you, I would second the suggestion of a glycerine suppository. It works straight away whereas anything you drink needs to work its way down.

You need to stick suppository up your arse, then lie down for at least 20 minutes ignoring the weird burning sensation in your arse.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/09/2021 21:27

DP brought home a box of Laxido, had to LOL at the size of the damn box though 😆 I'm currently half way through a litre jug with 8 sachets in it. (I went for the fecal impactation dose) no messing!
Wish me luck lol. X

Oh dear :( have u tried lactulose? I was prescribed this in my first pregnancy and am using it this time round too, I also have a 2nd grade rectocele prolapse from first birth, lactulose always worked for me and since I’ve been using it this 2nd time round I’ve not had any probs. I’m 3 days away from baby arriving, just hope she isn’t late like my first.

Heruka · 02/09/2021 21:33

Oh god good luck. The bits of pregnancy they don’t tell you Confused

ironorchids · 02/09/2021 23:18

The midwife suggested glycerine suppositories and Microlax enema for times like this.

I hope you get it cleared soon, it's really no fun.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/09/2021 23:56

@Pumpkinangel I got lactulose after my DD and I'll be honest it did nothing for me. My issue is my stool gets impacted so I need something strong to get it moving down. Omg exciting, good luck mama!! X

@Heruka Sadly I'm one of the unlucky ones in pregnancy 😂

@ironorchids I am definitely tempted with the enema route if I have this issue again!

Two days on the impaction dose and you will be sorted! I was a big laxido sceptic but admit now it's the only thing that fixed my horrendous pregnancy constipation. Two days post c section here and it's saved me the horror that is a difficult postpartum poop.

I'm just very glad that the pregnancy constipation will now be gone without having to drink anymore laxido 😅 it's a bit gross!
