Horrific constipation 35 weeks

Has anyone tried Laxido for major constipation and did it work for you?
I'm 35 weeks and horrifically constipated, just battled on the loo for nearly an hour, given myself some new arse grapes in the process by the looks of it. Had to resort to some manual removal which I do occassionally due to a lovely rectocele I got after my first birth. Sending DP to the pharmacy when he finishes work and would love some recommendations! I'm a desperate woman right now! 😂

@Gem176 I'm honestly holding out so much hope for this to work! I will get some for after my section as well - noted.
Oh my god the taste... it's salty 🤢😂 I've put a bit of squash in there just to enhance it but even that's not helped much haha!

Ah, laxido. My Ds calls it permanent marker juice. Apparently, it tastes just like he imagines a permanent marker would taste if it was a drink...

Once you get moving again I used to find 3 dried apricots a day kept things regular when I was pregnant. Wishing you more comfortable poos.

HollyGrail · 03/09/2021 07:48

I would attack from below - imv glycerol suppositories are quite mild but use a couple. There is a blocked bit lower down , moving or breaking up this is the best thing. Then the laxatives can work to keep you regular. I used a large syringe full of warm soapy water- DHs kit modelling hobby meant I had syringes around. But the enema sounds a good idea.

@MyGrassIsBrowner I really really hope this works for you!! It made me go the complete other way but I didn't have horrible stomach cramps or the feeling that if I didn't get to a toilet I was going to 💩 myself it just meant that when I did sit go there was zero effort required! Absolute bliss after days of spending hours trying and failing to get anywhere!

How long until your section? Totally forgot how scrummy newborns are!! Hope all goes well for you and the pregnancy "moans" are soon forgotten for you too Grin

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/09/2021 09:32

@JuneOsborne I think permanent marker ink would be preferable to drink tbh.. it really is grim. But I'm powering through!

@Gem176 Oh thank you so much! I've been in a right old state. Reminded me of my first PP poo which I'm still sure I've got PTSD over 😂

Well, I actually went for a poo this morning, totally unaided and it was definitely softer! I genuinely could cry!

My section is 32 days away now 😬 excited and slightly crapping myself as I have an 18 month old too! I'll definitely have my hands full!

Ahh I remember late pregnancy constipation and squatting in the shower trying to go cause it gave me a better position...

RandomMess · 03/09/2021 15:06

Switch your iron tablets for floradix it works better as it comes with all the vitamins in it to help you absorb the iron in the first place AND it doesn't make you constipated AND it's safe in pregnancy. I think spatone is just as good too.

That will help preventing it.

Longer term if you're prone I take psyllium husk capsules - mine is purely hormone. Very bloody annoying and rules my life.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/09/2021 15:23

@RandomMess I have read about a gentler version of iron tablets can be better to avoid constipation so I'll certainly look into that. I do have Feroglobin which I've been taking in place of my Ferrous Sulphate for the time being so hoping that might help things a bit. I wouldn't mind, my iron levels are only borderline but as I'm having a section I'm conscious of getting them up to a good level.

@Pikamoo I've done it in the bath post pregnancy! That was definitely an experience. I've got absolutely no dignity left anymore 😆

I am on ferrous funerate (3rd child due in Jan) and always specifically request this one because (sorry for tmi...) it makes my poo kind of sloppy. Its pretty rare that they are pepper log form when I am on these tablets. Maybe try switching to those?

I had a c section with 2nd,1st was 2 and a few months at the time. Physical recovery was alright to be honest. I was pretty much fine after a week. However that was the first time in my life I got properly constipated and it was absolutely awful. I didn't poo for about a week after the section and when I finally pooed... It was too big to flush down the toilet. The next time I pooed it was a blood bath.

Was the c section itself and the pain relief dihydrocodeine that caused it. Next time I will eat a few prunes with every meal, avoid meat and bread and if I don't poo after a few days I will start on the fibro gel.

ChikiTIKI · 03/09/2021 15:56

*proper log form

Sorry for all the other typos that will be in there, I can't be bothered checking 😅 I'm sure you can get the gist of what I'm saying anyway.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/09/2021 16:24

@ChikiTIKI Aww I'm so sorry but you saying that your poo was too big to flush down the loo had me actually HOWLING. You poor fucker. Honestly my first PP poo was a week after having my DD too and it was traumatic. I ended up manually removing it as it wasn't coming naturally and I was sweating, crying, literally thought I was going to die on the toilet. As I say I'm pretty sure I got PTSD after it 😂

I see my midwife on the 13th so I'll definitely ask about the other iron supplement! I'd take loose poo over a backlog anyday.
Seems like there are so many positive stories of elective sections these days. I'm feeling quite excited about it to be honest.

Haha aww I'm glad you laughed about my poo story. It was a sight to be seen that's for sure. Had to be removed from the loo using plastic bags and put in the outside bin 🤣 it didn't bend or break at all I've no idea how it made its way around the bends in my intestines. I will never forget it.

Yeah the elective c section was amazing and a million miles away from my traumatic first birth. I can't wait for the next one and I'm really going to enjoy it as I won't be so nervous this time and know its my last baby this time. Hope it's a lovely experience for you too. All these poo problems will be worth it once you're holding your sweet baby.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/09/2021 21:03

@ChikiTIKI Hahaha that is amazing to be fair you must have been fairly proud of producing that 😂
My first birth was a fast one (4.5 hour labour from first contractions to delivery) and although I had her naturally, my recovery was horrific. I couldn't sit properly for weeks without nearly hitting the roof. Horrid. Thank you, I'm looking forward to experiencing a section tbh and I have read so many positive elective section stories on here! Hoping it's a world away from my first birth. This is also my final baby, no way could I go through a pregnancy again my body is fucked! I hope all goes well with your next pregnancy too! X
