How long did you wait to have sex after birth?

I had DD 5 weeks ago and can't wait to have sex with my husband again. We didn't really do it through pregnancy because we both seemed to loose our sex drives. We tried a few days ago but I'm still quite sore, I had a forceps delivery with an episiotomy and a small tear.
How long did it take everyone to heal up enough to have sex?

We tried about 7 weeks but it was still too sore. Managed it at 9 weeks but tbh it was a bit uncomfortable til about 10 months after birth. I had a 3rd degree tear after an episiotomy.

Ridiculousradish · 20/12/2020 23:13

About 6 months. I didn't want him anywhere near me! I felt so fucking exhausted after a traumatic birth and breastfeeding, plus the twat did fuck all to help. The prospect wasn't very appealing!

PurpleSweetPeas · 20/12/2020 23:17

About 5 years!

6 years, honey.

Sunshine1235 · 20/12/2020 23:23

12 weeks with my first as I was too sore/freaking out about it

8 weeks with my second and i believe around 5/6 weeks with my third. It could have been earlier physically but logistically its was quite tricky to find a moment with other young children and a baby

ilovethecold · 20/12/2020 23:23

With my first I had forceps with episiotomy and I had sex 3 weeks after.

I had my second son 5 weeks ago and had a ventouse delivery with 2 tears and I want him no where near me 🥴 i still can't bring myself to look down there. I had a big baby.

Xmasdinnervwpolo · 20/12/2020 23:25

Longer than fix weeks but I had two c sections.

Just make sure you use reliable protection! Apparently, you can be very fertile in the weeks after giving birth.

AwFeebs · 20/12/2020 23:25

4 weeks with DC2 but it was a straight forward birth. With DC1 it was more like 8 weeks due to tears and stitches.

AwFeebs · 20/12/2020 23:26

Yes I echo what @Xmasdinnervwpolo says.

That 4 week pp bonk landed me with DD. Grin

SacreBleeeurgh · 20/12/2020 23:28

About 6 weeks with first. 15 months and counting with second who is a nightmare sleeper, also I COMPLETELY lose my sex drive with breastfeeding so we agreed early on there would be no pressure until I’ve stopped (hopefully this week 🤞🏻🤞🏻)

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 20/12/2020 23:31

DC1 - about 3 days. We were all loved up!

DC2 - oh god, months. We had a toddler and a newborn FFS Grin

TokenGinger · 20/12/2020 23:31

I had a second degree tear. We had sex after 3 weeks but very slowly. I wouldn't say it hurt, we wouldn't have continued, but it was sensitive.

LuluJakey1 · 20/12/2020 23:32

About 3 weeks with DS1, about a month with DD and 2 months with DS2. All were straightforward births, no episiotomies, no stitches.

titsaleena · 20/12/2020 23:33

6 weeks with 1st.
2 weeks with 2nd.
8 weeks with 3rd.

Whenever feels good for you is when is best!

JaneExotic · 21/12/2020 09:23

4 kids. A couple of days each time. Never felt so loved up and energetic!

QuantumJump · 21/12/2020 09:28

DC1 - after six week check
DC2 - three months
DC3 - I can't remember. It's all a blur!

sohypnotic · 21/12/2020 09:29

Waiting 6 weeks before sex isn't about how you feel or heal externally, it's about the healing that takes place internally. If you think about it where the placenta was is a large healing wound. Having sex before 6 weeks can lead to an infection internally. That's why even those who have c-sections should wait, even if they are up to and external incision is healing well.

Miffyliffy · 21/12/2020 09:56

We waited a week.... Seemed like forever.

Uneventful delivery, no tears etc, unassisted, small baby, minimal bleeding.

Everyone is different.

Listen to your body

Johnson10 · 21/12/2020 13:05

About 4 months.

winterbabythistime · 22/12/2020 02:20

12 weeks first time and it was sore so waited another month after that

AldiAisleofCrap · 22/12/2020 02:34

Three weeks was the earliest.

StopSquirtingBleachOnCaneToads · 22/12/2020 02:40

6 weeks, because I had surgery and stitches and was told I had to wait 6 weeks. If I hadn't been told that I would probably have tried after 3 or 4. Sex was uncomfortable for me until about 10 weeks after, but not so much so that I wanted to stop. I had really missed sex and was determined to make it work lol.

wirldsgonemad · 22/12/2020 03:17

3 months after for me

jessstan1 · 22/12/2020 03:25

For me, eight weeks but I've known people start again with a fortnight! If you are still sore or uncomfortable in any way, some gentle and passionate non-penetrative sex could be a pleasant alternative.

Good luck.
