Is this a good sign?

I had a sweep on Tuesday after which I bleed a bit but nothing happened. Each night since then I have had some period type cramps and this morning I had some blood tinged discharge. Is this a good sign? I am 40 + 6 today.

I am quite excited and a bit nervous.

I am still getting cramps - usually they stop once I am up. My back hurts too.

yep, deffo sounds like beginnings of early labour

How do you know when to call the hospital? It doesn't say in my leaflet - just to call if your waters break. I don't think I need to call them yet - just thinking ahead. This bit can go on for ages can't it?

you could call and say what is happening, but you don;t need to go in until contractions much stronger and closer together...you could take a couple of paracetomal and have a bath.. or if you plan to use tens, you could get it set up...

Thanks - I think I should wait a bit incase this is a false alarm. Trying to warn my DH that it might be a false alarm but he's having none of it and wants to pack the car already!

Pains seem to be every five mins and last about thirty seconds. It hurts but I am managing. I really hope this is not a false alarm.

you sound to be in labour phone the delivery suite if you are nervous about anything x

Hi Stefka, carry on as normal with your day and night. If you go to bed and the contractions tail off then you can get some rest, which you will need! If they don't tail off then you will be in labour proper!

Make sure that you eat and drink little and often to keep your energy levels up. Pee regularly too!

You're going to have a baby!!! Soonish

get in the bath if it false alarm it should calm it down! deffinatly take paracetamol (if needed) eat sleep first call hospital to let them know your progress that way they can be ready for you if you need to go in and they can advise you of how close together etc (dont leave it to long before driving to hospital as i was in so much pain my sis was driving 5mph and i was yelling she was going to fast!) good luck im excited now!

Thanks. I called my mum! Not that she could really give me advice but I wanted to talk to her.

Will give the hospital a quick ring to see what they say.

I called and I am glad I did. They were really nice and said I can call as often as I want. She said it sounded like early labour but she was happy for me to stay home now and I was to call back if the pains get longer and stronger.

Alright - it does hurt but I am coping. I think they are a wee bit longer - getting more like 40 seconds now. It hurts a lot in my back.

oooooooooh.. sounds promising

try leaning over a chair or birth ball to take pressure off your back, and try to avoid lying down

drink, eat lightly, and wee !

I have the TENS on now - strange thing. They are more painful now and about 45 seconds.

I wish you were here Klaw that all sounds so nice!

Do you think this will go on till tomorrow - I can't see me sleeping through it?

Sounds like tonight is the night. Just keep thinking that every contraction is bringing you closer to your baby.

Stefka, turn TENS dial so that you can just barely feel a little tingle. If it's any higher it will just feel annoying. As contractions get strogner you will lose the TENS sensation and so you turn it up till you regain the tingle. iyswim?

Stay strong! you possibly won't get to sleep tonight, but if you try you will know!

but ignore anythign we say if your body does not agree with it, listen to it and go with flow, stay comfortable, keep fluid levels up and pee regular.
