Sweep and period pains

I had a sweep yesterday afternoon and over 24 hours later I’m still getting period type pains/cramps. Definitely not contractions! How long did these last for for you, before they petered off (assuming it doesn’t kick start labour)

Lost my mucus plug this morning. How long did other take to go into labour after this?

Sweep at 10am, cramps all morning, contractions all afternoon, baby 4.12pm next day.

Ronia · 21/08/2020 12:24

I didn't have a sweep but period type cramps were how my labours started naturally. Don't recall obviously losing my mucus plug either time though!

cookiesaurus · 21/08/2020 12:29

Me too... no sweep but lost my mucus plug and had period type pains and I was in labour!

Good luck OP!

TwinkleStars15 · 21/08/2020 12:55

I don’t remember losing my plug at all in my last pregnancy. It started off suddenly at 1.30pm and she was born at 8.30pm. It’s so different this time, it’s confusing me!

I had a sweep on the Friday morning, lost my plug and had a small bleed on the Saturday morning, went about my usual day on the Saturday (including going to the cinema!) then contractions started properly on Sunday at about 2am.

DS was born on the Monday lunchtime!

Yes, I was bloody knackered 🥴

TwinkleStars15 · 21/08/2020 13:47

@LatteLover12 gosh, not surprised you were knackered! First baby?

I had a sweep with our second and it didn’t do anything - she was 6 days late.

I declined a sweep yesterday (3 days away from due date) and now I’m regretting it 😫

YummyInMyTummy · 21/08/2020 14:37

I had my first sweep at 38+3 and I lost my plug at 39 weeks. I’m now 41+1 and have just had my 7th sweep!! So I have no clue - sorry!

My baby is incredibly low and my waters are bulging, but baby just doesn’t want to come out. I’ve just been for a 30 minute walk and I’m convinced there is a head between my legs - so uncomfortable!

I had 3 sweeps with my first baby (from 41 weeks) and had to have my waters broken at 42 weeks and then baby was out 4 hours later.

LatteLover12 · 21/08/2020 19:16

@TwinkleStars15 yes! How did you guess?! 😂

To add insult to injury after all that I had an emergency section!

4 weeks away from having my third though 😳

PlinkPlink · 21/08/2020 19:18

2 sweeps with DC1

1st sweep brought on mild labour pains for about 18 hours.

2nd sweep brought on active labour within 45 minutes.

PlinkPlink · 21/08/2020 19:18

You sound like you're in the early stages to me 😂😂

TwinkleStars15 · 21/08/2020 20:27

@LatteLover12 Grin I hope your second and impending third labours are a bit less taxing!

A few more pains tonight whilst bouncing on my ball. Wish I had a crystal ball so I knew whether this was it, or if they are planning on stopping again! I’m having a home birth so at least there’s no bag to pack or car journey to factor in!

OP posts:
PlinkPlink · 21/08/2020 22:44

You will still need a bag packed, just in case.

Home births are lovely. I had mine 8 weeks ago and it was wonderful. Hope you have a lovely one too!

TwinkleStars15 · 22/08/2020 12:19

Urgh so fed up! Starting having some pains again last night, thought it was the real deal, had a pooh and they stopped! Blush I need to get this baby into a better position as I think that’s causing the stop start... been bouncing on my ball, on all fours, and saw an Osteopath yesterday, come on baby! So far I’ve had a week of intense Braxton Hicks/period pains, lost my mucus plug, been going to the loo more often, feeling nauseous and tired etc, how many other signs can there be. going to curl up in bed and sulk because I’m in a bad mood

PlinkPlink · 22/08/2020 13:14

I just got on with as much housework as I could, with my second one.

Passed the time, encouraged labour and the house looked great Grin

LatteLover12 · 22/08/2020 19:14

How you feeling now @TwinkleStars15?

A good tip is to walk up and down the stairs sideways.

Sending positive vibes your way!

OhioOhioOhio · 22/08/2020 19:15

I had this but with hindsight I was in labour for weeks before each birth. Very short actual delivery. Very. Short. Delivery.

TwinkleStars15 · 22/08/2020 20:50

@PlinkPlink housework is so hard though, I think I have PGP so my groin pain is intense! I just want to lay on the sofa feeling sorry for myself - I don’t as I have a 3 year old but I’m certainly not doing as much as I’d like to.

@LatteLover12 not much going on today really, just the usual Braxton Hicks. It seems all the plug came away yesterday as I’ve no more, and Dr Google is unhelpful as he says it could be hours/days or even weeks before labour starts Hmm I will 100% be trying the stairs tomorrow, thank you!

@OhioOhioOhio I like the sound of that...I think.

Op. 13 minutes.

TwinkleStars15 · 22/08/2020 21:30

@OhioOhioOhio I think you are my role model Grin

OP posts:
OhioOhioOhio · 22/08/2020 21:32

It was one giant 13 minute contraction. There are no words to explain the pain. Worth it though! ')

TwinkleStars15 · 23/08/2020 15:55

@OhioOhioOhio on second thoughts.... 13 minute contraction Shock

Melbs6 · 27/08/2020 19:32

How did you get on @TwinkleStars15? I’m having all the same symptoms as you have described following a sweep yesterday. I’m 40+6 and booked in for induction on Sunday so desperate to go in to labour naturally and obsessively googling every symptom 😂 I hope your baby is in your arms now!

TwinkleStars15 · 27/08/2020 22:00

@Melbs6 still pregnant! I have had a week of intense period pains/cramps, lost my mucus plug on Friday and was sure it was al going to happen, but hope, nothing. Had a second sweep yesterday, 4 hours of cramps last night but they stopped. Lost a little bit more of plug/show today so we’ll see what tomorrow brings! I’ve been clear that I won’t accept an induction at all (unless baby is in distress). Is there a reason you are being induced? If baby is happy in there and you don’t want one, could you ask them to cancel/postpone it?
