Hello, currently 40+7 (41 weeks).

Seen a lot threads in last couple of days about sweeps and inductions - so feel like I'm not the only waiting an age to meet their little one.

I read somewhere that summer babies tend to be overdue 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just wanted to put a message out there as I'm feeling impatient, huge and well just a bit fed up!

Feel free to join in a light hearted rant or share what you're doing to try and get baby out.

I've had a sweep today, been for a walk and done some bouncing - it can't stay in there forever!

I'm 40 +3. Seeing Midwife for a sweep and induction booking on Wednesday. Husband has to pop into work for the day on Thursday, so it's almost guaranteed I'll go into labour Wednesday night Confused

My 1st daughter was 4 days late. I had a sweep on my due date, I didn't really notice anything afterwards. In fact I didn't feel anything different at all until my waters suddenly went (big gush, just like the movies haha) and then contractions started 40 or so minutes later.

This time I'm feeling crampy & off. Huge, like a blimp. I can't walk anymore, I have a new thing I do which I can only describe as "squat-waddling" haha, which is very graceful by the way.

Is this your 1st Sillybean?
Do you know what you're having?

You're right, they can't stay in there forever haha they give it a good go though!

sillybean · 13/07/2020 19:41

Hi @jules2110 nice to hear from a fellow overdue-er. Is it still just crampy niggles? Or have things progressed?

This is my second, don't know what we're having so making me more impatient I think. My first was 40+5 and was born the day I was due to have a sweep.

Ha yes baby will typically come the one day your DH has to go into work!

😂 squat waddling - I think I might be doing this, I'm definitely not doing normal walking. Sounds like the sweep worked for you last time 🤞it works this time too.

I'm 40+8 (41+1) today and literally not a niggle 😬 have an induction booked for this Friday, so either way not long to go but would really just like to go into labour naturally.

Do you know what you're having?

Happy squat-waddling!

Hello,I'm 40+6 and sooooo fed up.

This is my 3rd pregnancy,1st was 6 days overdue, went into labour on own,2nd I was induced when I was 41+5,he was born at 42 weeks🤦‍♀️. I didn't hold out much hope for this baby to come by due date.

Had my 2nd sweep this afternoon and not feeling any different, just the usual niggles, lower backache and strong braxton hicks that I've had the past week.

Due to go in Friday night for induction, really hope I go before then

sillybean · 13/07/2020 22:08

@arleybarley ugh I know! It's just feels like a bloody age!

I feel like I'm going to have your second birth 😬😂

I always thought they said second babies come sooner but it's so not the case. Nor the case for third babies!

How was your induction last time? Sounds long but was it ok?

Fingers crossed things get moving before Friday!

arleybarley · 13/07/2020 22:28

@sillybean not going to lie it wasn't pleasant,1st pessary did nothing, the 2nd after 24hours got me to 3cm dilated so they were able to break my waters,on the drip, restricted to bed,not long after they broke waters contractions started,so strong nothing like remembered from the 1st time.He was born after 7 hours.

I said I would never go through it again yet here I am 😂

First thing I'm doing once I get out of hospital is bursting this pregnancy ball,I'm sick of the sight of it 🤣

Have you much of an age gap between your 1st and this baby?

My other 2 are 19 & 11🙈

sillybean · 13/07/2020 22:55

@arleybarley oh how we forget 🤦‍♀️

😂 haha that bloody ball!! The only thing it seem to help me with, and this is total TMI, but it's bowel movements 🙈

Oh wow that's exciting! How are your older two feeling about it? There'll be almost 2 years between my two which I'm dreading slightly as the 2 year old really doesn't understand what's about to happen to his world.

How are you all doing today? I’m only two days overdue but already feeling really uncomfortable. I went 8 days over with DD1 and really don’t want to do that again! Doesn’t feel like anything’s starting yet though.

jules2110 · 14/07/2020 19:56

@sillybean We are having another girl! I wish I could hold out for a surprise but I'm too impatient haha.
I'm 40 +5 tomorrow & having a sweep at my appointment at 2pm. I keep thinking, this time last pregnancy I'd given birth already! I'm really hoping to avoid being induced too but you're right, at least with one booked you have a date to work towards. The "will this be the day?" Guessing game is just maddening!!

thattravelphotographer · 14/07/2020 22:56

This is the post I've been needing! I'm so fed up of seeing what feels like EVERYONE around me posting pictures of their babies which have come early, and if one more person messages me asking if the baby has come yet or if I "have any signs" I'm going to scream! I know everyone has the nicest of intentions and they are excited to hear she has come, but I just want to tell everyone to stop bloody asking me! And why is it that people who don't even know me all seem to be experts on my pregnancy?! Dropping my husband off for work yesterday and one of the receptionists (who I've never met) tells me my bump is far too high for labour to be any time soon - honestly I just wanted to tell her to f* off!

Sorry this has turned into me having a right old rant! But I feel better for it!

EssElsiee · 27/07/2020 17:19

So not technically overdue yet... Due date is tomorrow! If I don’t go into Labour by Thursday I have an appointment, will I be offered a sweep there and then? Bit worried about induction as I read on the nhs website that inductions can make everything a bit more painful and increase the potential need for instrumental delivery. Hope I go into Labour naturally! X

Grainedesesame · 27/07/2020 18:24

@EssElsiee my due date is today and seeing the midwife on Thursday for a sweep maybe! I’m not quite decided yet. You can ask for one.

Right now, I feel exactly in the shoes of @thattravelphotographer with everyone who keep asking about the upcoming labour.

I have gave up trying everything to induce naturally and ran out of energy. Now I am (trying hard) to letting it go.

Mimi91 · 28/07/2020 05:47

Can I please join? 😩 40+7 (41 weeks ) today and first baby!

Had my first sweep yesterday morning, which just made me feel sleepy. DTD last night to try and get things moving (the unsexiest sex EVER) and I've woken up this morning to sweet FA.

Have another sweep booked in for later on today.

Induction booked for Sunday if nothing comes of it, so just mentally preparing myself for that. It really helps that friends and family are saying "oh you don't want an induction" Hmm "any signs yet"... may switch my phone off today!

Hope you're all doing okay!

zeeeex · 28/07/2020 16:26

I'm 40+2 and already soo impatient! I'm booked in for a membrane sweep on Thursday and induction was due to be Sunday but has been postponed to a week tomorrow as ward is so busy. I really hope I don't need the induction as I want him to come on his own but 😫😫.

It's such a weird feeling being in this limbo. I have zero signs of baby arriving - bump is looking super low and I'm getting lightning crotch constantly haha. X

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 28/07/2020 16:58

I’m 41+4 today. Well according to the dating scan (but I think I’m actually more like 40+5). I have declined an induction on Friday so I’ve got an appointment for a scan and to see a consultant.

I don’t want an induction unless it’s genuinely medically necessary. I’m not having one based on standardised practice or population level decisions. I was hoping for a home birth but that seems unlikely once the system has decided I’m 42 weeks.

I’m thoroughly fed up with the entire thing tbh. It just feels like I’ve got a deadline and I won’t meet it. And I don’t even agree with the sodding deadline.

sillybean · 28/07/2020 17:32

Hello ladies, good luck with things. You just never know when you'll go into labour. I was 2 days off induction. Finally went into labour at 40+10. It is a relief to have the birth over and done with - you'll be there soon! Hope all goes well for you.

OP posts:
Mimi91 · 28/07/2020 19:30

Thanks @sillybean and congratulations!

@ExtremelyBoldSquirrels totally agree with the whole deadline feel. It doesn't help when people are constantly messaging, as if they're super frustrated they're still waiting!

@zeeeex omg, the lightning crotch! I was so shocked the first time it happened, haha.

An induction (especially without DH there) is going to massively SUCK, but I can barely walk so have agreed to book one in for Sunday. Longest week of my life and it's only Tuesday 😭

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 28/07/2020 20:31

@Mimi91 it’s amazing how other people (looking at you MIL) can make you feel like you’re inconveniencing them by not producing a baby on demand. Luckily I’m leaving DH to deal with that. He’s being a pain in the arse about potential childcare issues next week if I haven’t gone into labour yet though, which is driving me mad. It’s only Tuesday; I don’t need to be worry about what might happen a week from now.

It sounds like you’re suffering quite a lot. I’m feeling alright really (which doesn’t make me any more inclined towards induction). The whole hours (possibly days) alone on a ward being induced factor doesn’t appeal to me either (I am not a fan of maternity wards to put it mildly). But I have read several people’s birth stories that were quite positive even about that bit. So maybe you’ll go into labour on your own before Sunday (which is ages away really) or have a great induction experience on Sunday. 😁

Mimi91 · 29/07/2020 08:32

@ExtremelyBoldSquirrels oh yes, the MIL has been particularly invested in the status of my cervix! Really admire you sticking to your guns about not having an induction, if you are happy and baby is happy, why would you want to put yourself through it?

I've read some positive stories, but also read a lot of partners have missed the births because they're called in too late. Can't bear the thought of DH missing the birth of his first (potentially only) baby.

A lot of back pressure this morning, so hopefully things are moving 👀 hope your scan and appt goes ok!

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 29/07/2020 09:25

A lot of back pressure this morning, so hopefully things are moving 👀

Hopefully. 🤞

Mimi91 · 29/07/2020 14:53

My midwife has managed to swing me an induction as an outpatient. It took 4 phone calls, but as I'm low risk, they agreed to do it (it's something the hospital were piloting before lockdown).

Hopefully the baby comes before then anyway, but so grateful I can spend the 24 hours at home.

Had another sweep today, cervix soft but still long... sighhh

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 29/07/2020 17:06

That’s brilliant. It’ll be much better to be at home.

Maybe you’ll go into labour first though. 😁

zeeeex · 31/07/2020 11:40

I had my sweep yesterday and it failed!! Baby's head has moved down but cervix is still high up. Hoping I don't need to go for another (one booked for Tuesday) as I found it really uncomfortable.

Any update for you ladies?

Mimi91 · 31/07/2020 11:59

@zeeeex bless you, they aren't pleasant are they, if it's any consolation, I found my 2nd sweep much easier.

I've had a bit of pressure here and there, but no real progress. Went for a long walk this morning (I thought my hips were going to dislocate) and bounced on my ball, but it's too hot to do anymore.

Mentally preparing for the induction on Sunday, let's hope we both go into labour naturally over the weekend 🤞🤞

EssElsiee · 31/07/2020 12:14

I had a sweep yesterday and my cervix was quite far back, it really hurt and had to tell midwife to stop! I have another app booked for Sunday x

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 31/07/2020 13:26

I’ve had 3 sweeps now. My cervix is still long and awkward to reach. 😆

As I’m 42 weeks, I’ve spent all morning in the hospital - just waiting for DH to pick me up now.

I’ve had a scan (all lovely - one happy, healthy 60th percentile baby and no concerns about fluid or placenta) and made a plan with the consultant and supervisor of midwives.

I’m getting daily monitoring (a mix of CTG and scans) until 43 weeks. Plus they did a sweep today and will do another on Sunday.

I am not getting a home birth but they’ve agreed that I can use the birthing centre and be treated like any other low risk woman. So that’s reassuring.

The midwife is typing up the plan and the consultant will sign it. That way no one is going to try to overrule me when I come in - they know the consultant has agreed it with me.

Hopefully I’ll just go into Labour today anyway. It’s hot today (it’s been miserable and cold all week) and loads of women appear to have gone into Labour as a result.
