If you were induced...

... Were your waters broken or did they go naturally?
If they weren't broken what happened?

Just wondering how typical my experience was and what others mums' experiences were like.

Mine were ruptured artificially as an early part of the induction process

Mine were broken by the midwife before starting the drip.

Had balloon induction but waters did not go, so ended up having them broken artificially followed by the drip.

@Ouchjuststoodonlego Mine were broken for me once I reached 2-3CM using the plastic hook with both DC, then contractions started naturally with DC1 and same with DC2 but with him I then went on to have the hormone drip.

I was induced with my second baby. Had pessary then went into labour about 20 hours later, waters broke naturally during my (super fast) labour.

Mine broke on their own around 24hrs after I was induced. Labour started incredibly quickly after that and I'd given birth around 90 minutes later.

Mine were broken artificially after several days of pessaries. Active labour didn't start until I was put on the drip a few hours later.

I had mine broken because I was already 1cm dilated when they were going to do the other thing. Sorry I can't for the life of me remember what they call it!! I was then put on the drip.

I started having really strong contractions very quickly. I remember my DH had popped out and came back by 10pm. My waters were broken at 7.30, just before shift change. The problem was that they were so strong and combined with his position, my baby was in distress. I was taken off the drip and then labour ground to a halt. So I had a c-section.

They didn't have time to break mine artificially, so DS came out 'en caul' - half in half out of the sacy thing. DP said he looked like a bank robber with tights on his head Hmm

Mine had already broken but labour didn't start naturally, so they induced me.

I had my waters broken and contractions were strong and fast almost immediately. Labour was 1hr 30ish after that

Mine were broken for me after 3 attempts at induction.
That's when my active labour really started.
So I had 55 hour labour but about 10 hours active.
And I was so pissed about it.

My community midwife told me baby was so low and waters were bulging so much they could induce me by only breaking my waters. So I agreed to that at exactly 42 weeks.

I went into hospital and was told "they don't do that anymore" and I had to have the drugs.

I didn't want the drugs because of a prior experience. Bit was told I had to. So I did.

She said they couldnt break my waters anyway so she can't feel them/find them, they were round a corner? Something like that.

Then I got onto labour ward and my waters were able to be broken.

Then I dilated fully had the baby in under an hour. I was beside myself with the pain, asking for an epidural even though I didn't want one. I told the anaesthetist who was trying to tell me all the information that the baby was coming and he insisted the midwife checked me. Up until that point I found her a little patronising, telling me to calm down as I'd gotten myself in a panic. Yep, baby was coming.

3 inductions. 1st one popped themselves, all over my new, bought for the hospital baffies. 🙄
2nd and 3rd were broken. 2nd was quite uncomfortable, 3rd was ok.
Contractions started within an hour. No drip was needed with any of them.

I am the one in ten the gel and the pessary didn’t work for. Ended up with a (gratefully recieved) CS at 42+1.

As an aside I think I had some kind of reaction as the inside of my fanny felt like someone had put caustic soda up there. The junior doctor that saw me seemed really freaked out by this.

Just like allfalldown47. Waters broke at home, went to hospital but they sent me back home as no contractions and booked me in 24 hours later for induction with drip.

Included at 8pm.
Contractions started mildly at night night.
2cm by 7pm.
Waters broken at 3cm at 8pm.
No progressions for 10 hours so ended with EMCS

Induced with gel at 4pm. 6hrs later waters broken by midwife. No progress after 2hrs so placed on a drip. Quite a quick labour once I was in active labour.

Thank you everyone.
It sounds like it's quite normal to have them broken then. Mine weren't.
I had the pessary and started contracting quite quickly. Was checked and told that I was 3cm and that my waters would be broken soon.
The ward then got busy. Even though I was contracting every 3 minutes the midwives refused to break my waters as they were too busy, so I was left for 3 nights with regular contractions (every 3 mins) until my waters eventually went on their own. (all over the midwives shoes, while they were still refusing to break my waters)

Full labour then started very quickly but I was exhausted and ds had moved to be back to back. I ended up with emcs in the end as his heart rate was dropping and he was seriously stuck.

I am pregnant again and would like to try for a vaginal birth but am terrified of ending up in this position again. That's why I wondered how common it was. I think that if my waters had been broken I would have had ds much quicker and probably not needed the intervention.
I am leaning towards elcs just to avoid the possibility.

I’m sorry that you don’t have positive memories through a clear lack of communication from staff in your labour.

However, I don’t know how correct your thinking is. My waters were broken and it halted my labour

Thank you. It was how quickly things happened once my waters had gone that made me wonder whether this was the case.
It just seems unusual to be left for so long without something being done to speed up the process.

Mine were broken by a midwife which was enough by itself to kick start labour - I didn’t need the drop. I was 42 weeks second baby

with DD my waters broke by themselves, with DS the midwife broke them for me. Both times induced and completely different
