Induction on Monday if no joy before then

40+6 today and very little sign of anything at all happening. Hospital this morning, thorough scan etc., baby doing very well but they don't want me to go further than 40+10. I thought anything would happen other than having to be induced have been anticipating this baby since, oh, about 36 weeks and the idea of Giving Birth is getting very surreal. It's been such a long haul of a pregnancy (all placenta problems happily resolved) and I'm not coping very well at all with the anxiety (that's another thread, though).

Any spare labour vibes in this direction please

This was on the cards but I am probably going to have to labour alone The only person who is near enough and we could countenance having ds is due herself on Monday. (ds is not used enough to anyone else except ILs, and for a number of reasons we can't leave him alone with them).

I'm actually quite scared.

They are not sure that the environment might be starting to deteriorate, VVV, although baby is absolutely fne atm.

Ooh poor you , giving birth alone is a scenario here as well and I am not so hoping it doesn't become a relaity.

As for the birth itself, have had 3 births one induced and the induced one was fine, don't worry.

Next (LAST) one due April so a while to go yet LOL, have had one induced early, one a week earlya nd one a week alte- so will be running a book on delivery date closer to the time....

berolina can I just say that I dreaded being induced and held on unitl 40+15 but eventually had to give in.
It was a very pleasant experience and much better than my spontaneous labour.

They like to induce here at 40+10, too, which I think is a bit rushed. Can they check your placenta? I know it's possible, but not all hospitals will have the expertise to do it (I think they just use an ultrasound machine).

Four days is a pretty good amount of time. I hope the baby decides to come out without too much fuss before Monday!

Induction doesn't have to be horrible, I had an amazing induction with my second at 41+4, it was quick easy and with no more intervention than the drugs to start me off. It was so good that I planned an induction for my third who was born in May, I didn't get that far though, she decide to arrive very quickly on her own at 39+5.

good luck, get eating pineapple and lots of hmmmm you know what if you can bear it.

Thank you everyone. Aiki, according to the scan today the placenta is beginning to show gritty spots - which I know needn't be bad in itself.

Have been scaring myself with 'research' on the risks of induction and thinking letting baby take his time is probably preferable. Trouble is, I also want this baby out because the longer the pregnancy goes on, the more my usually very well-controlled or -suppressed OCD is rearing its ugly head. Fear and panic that after it all - the previous miscarriages, the bleeds, the rocky start to the pg - something will go wrong at the very last minute (catching listeria is currently a big concern ), translating into hygiene and cleanliness worries. It's becoming a struggle to avoid transferring that (or the general anxiety vibes) to ds. Because of that it was a big relief to know I'll only have to hang on until Mon now. But I don't want to be induced either if baby is not ready and if all seems OK on Mon (placenta, heartbeat etc.) - I want to do the right thing by this baby, not just by me.

Good luck on monday. I read your posts early on when I had similar placenta problems threatening (although I didn't have a bleed) and I'm so glad you're OK on that score now. Now I've got induction booked for Tuesday (39 weeks, for various reasons) and might end up on my own -- I'll be hoping for the best for you. (My DD ended up being induced for slow progress and the induction wasn't nearly as bad as the waiting beforehand.)

Berolina - you will be absolutely fine I am sure. Is your cervix going to be examined before you go in to see how favourable you are?
I looked after a friend of mine the other day who was to be induced at 40+10. She had a sweep of her cervix in the afternoon and started contractions that night. Had a lovely boy at 40+8 - her first baby.

You might find that if you are favourable, a sweep might get you going. I only approve of them as a last resort before induction and after 41 weeks.

berolina, I was posting here v.grumpily just over 6 months ago when I went 13 days over. Turned up to the induction appointment in labour in the end (was induced first time round though). there doesn't really need to be a sign, especially not second time round, it can all happen very suddenly - there is still plenty of hope.

so I am sending you plenty of vibes and hope they do some good. Also the worrying about 2 - totally normal, and of course it will be OK. Everyone worries about that, and it takes some getting used to, but you WILL BE OK. There'll be some tricky bits and some wobbles, but your DS will love the new baby just as much as my DD loves her baby brother & will regard his baby brother/sister as the best present you ever gave him before too long

hope you keep on top of the OCD. My DH has a form of it and I have it mildly, it's horrid. I think everyone gets a bit jittery after their due date - it's only natural

i am rambling but I'm trying to send vibes and chat reassuringly. Probably failing miserably! Good luck

Morning everyone - and thank you Emotionally I feel better for a decent (read 6 hours) night's sleep. Have tried a, er, natural method of getting things going (with dh, sorry TMI) and have a pineapple waiting in the fridge...

mears, I expect (hope) they will. Had an internal yesterday too and it took a while to find the cervix but OTOH the baby's head was apparently well down. You know, I don't know whether they do sweeps over here (certainly don't know the German word for it - emkana, geekgirl, anyone?), otherwise I would definitely want to try one before starting on induction proper.

I have been contracting mildly on and off (ave every 10 mins, I'd say) since this morning Nowhere near full-blown labour, but a good sign, I think.

It is soooo frustrating isn't it? I had it the other night where they were coming every 2 minutes - only mildly but enough to get my hopes up! i don't know if you feel the same but I don't know how far to push all the old wives tales or how much just to sit back and see if things happen naturally and if not then put it down to fate? Does that make any sense? Because at least going in for an induction means baby will be monitored closely and so although constricting will be reassuring?? Am I completely nuts?!!

Not at all It is a real dilemma. The reassurance of close supervision etc. versus the very different reassurance of knowing 'nature' is taking its course (sometimes 'nature' is overrated, of course, but so is medicalised 'reassurance'). Argh
