Anything that actually helped you go into labour?

So I'm sure we've all heard old wives tales of what to try to start things going. Of course none of them are proven to actually start the labour. Anything you have tried and it's worked? Anything you 'swear by'?!
I know I know, baby will come when she's ready but maybe there's something worth trying :) second pregnancy

Nothing worked for me except the drip to start me off. My waters had broke and DS had pooped inside me so they wouldn't let me go too long because it's an infection risk (I think, it was a while back).

I never actually tried a hot curry, I was always worried that I would have an explosive shite while pushing. Hot food does that to me. Xmas BlushXmas Grin

When are you due?

Newmumma83 · 05/12/2019 22:29

Hi op! Big congratulations 🥳 on your pending new arrival.

For me I swear sex did it , must admit was not a huge fan of it when heavily pregnant but when I was over due I decided to give that old wife’s take a go.

Afterward I saw my plug came away.

I had period pains for 4 or 5 days and then I was in labour so it wasn’t instant and maybe had nothing to do with it but I felt it got things moving.

I remember feeling impatient towards the end and wanting my body back ... it’s a long process , also remember going to my friends baby shower when my little guy was a month old and I was all teary because I missed my bump!

When are you actually due?

I poured clary sage oil into a bath early evening and she arrived that night.
No idea if it was a coincidence or not??

Ohyesiam · 05/12/2019 22:40

Acupuncture.
Was almost a fortnight overdue when my blood pressure went up. They started talking about induction, and I REALLY wanted a natural birth.
I nipped in to see a friend who does acupuncture and my labour started in about an hour.
Of course it may have started then anyway, I’ll never know. But I got my natural birthXmas Smile

Sex. Both times. Apologies to my daughters if you’re reading but you were both late so needs must...

whiteroseredrose · 05/12/2019 22:47

Stewed apricots!

neverornow · 05/12/2019 22:56

Membrane sweep worked for me.

PenelopeFlintstone · 05/12/2019 23:02

An accidental overly hot bath. When I got out, I felt water coming out of me and thought it was bath water but I now think that was my waters breaking as I've never had that much draining out before or since.

Sex

Winter2019 · 06/12/2019 09:43

Thanks for your replies!
I'm actually due on Christmas but would like to get things moving a few days before as I wish to be home for Christmas for my DD1.
Oh no... This pregnancy has felt much more uncomfortable compared to first so really not feeling up for sex 😂 could try the bath and hot food as I like it anyway!
I also had to be induced for my first birth and it wasn't fun

Sex worked 3 times for me!

purplepolo · 06/12/2019 12:30

For me sex. The week leading up to my labour at 37 + 3, we dtd atleast once an evening. It would generally bring on irregular contractions and id sit and bounce on my ball. Once id hit 37 weeks i started using clary sage in a burner and would put drops in my bath with milk.
Had sex at 37+2, and rather than going and sitting on my ball i went straight to bed that evening, felt shattered, woke up at 2am with contractions every 3 minutes lasting a minute, went to the birth centre and had her at 3.20am Smile
But overall these things will only work if your body is ready! She came out a lovely 7lb 12oz and my first also came at 37+3, think my babies just come a bit earlier

CloudyVanilla · 14/12/2019 21:01

Sorry OP but I went overdue and went into labour the morning we had sex!

With my son I was induced by my due date but would have tried it again as I think it can work.

hiptobeasquare · 14/12/2019 21:03

Eating a massive portion of mac and cheese. Grin

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/12/2019 21:04

Sex. Maybe. Did it the night before and woke up at half 8 the next morning with contractions.

I’d had regular acupuncture throughout pregnancy and had a session targeted at bringing on labour but it didn’t do anything.

3rdtimelucky2019 · 16/12/2019 14:54

Had my baby last Wednesday. Had absolutely zero signs of labour. Used Clary sage oil mixed with olive oil, rubbed into belly and ankles. Also steamed some in the shower and sniffed some on a hanky

Went into labour 12 hours later. Could be a coincidence but quite enjoyed smelling the tissue during the labour too.

MarshaBradyo · 16/12/2019 14:55

Walking helped but it had started just 2cm but put me into proper labour

Winter2019 · 16/12/2019 21:32

@3rdtimelucky2019 congratulations! How many weeks were you?
I've been walking, doing squats but nothing so far.. 39wks tomorrow. DD1 was born 39+1

Nothing helped for me! One thing I can’t recommend is sex, it was horrendous! I hated it and it hurt and it was just god awful 😫

poltergust · 16/12/2019 21:38

Two women from my NCT group went into labour after pregnancy yoga. Almost certainly a coincidence but I have to admit it had me considering taking it up, besides the fact I couldn't put my knickers on never mind do yoga.

Congratulations and good luck!

Opendraw · 16/12/2019 21:44

Rosehip tea supposed to get the cervix ready and bring on labour I thought I’d give it a go DC was 10 days early :-)

3rdtimelucky2019 · 16/12/2019 21:50

I was 40+5 and had just booked my induction date there were so little signs of labour
