Plug or waters?

Not sure as previous experience was different- with DC1 I had a bloody show that went straight into the loo bowl and then my waters were broken in hospital.

Am 40+4. I woke at midnight with a lot of wetness but it seems to have been a bit gel-like, not purely liquid. Clear, odourless. Woke again at half five and more fluid came out, then found mucus when I wiped so think I’ve lost at least part of the plug. Came downstairs at 8 to have again clear fluid running down my leg (sorry TMI!). Waters? Watery plug lost in bits?

Sounds like waters to me. In which case you are to call the hospital and go in for examination. And even save a sanitary pad with some of the waters on it I think, if that's possible, to help confirm if it is waters.

Goostacean · 03/12/2019 08:45

Yeah.... I wasn’t sure at 5am but the gentle gushing sensation(!) is making me second guess. Hopefully you’re right!

Waters!

I had the same with DD. A small liquid discharge at 5am, called the MW at 7am, was told to go straight to the hospital. DD was out before 10am by CS (she was transverse).

No-one can possibly tell you the answer to this here - it's not really something you can describe on the internet (no matter how much detail) and get a reliable answer to.

You need to contact a professional if you want to be sure.

When we thought my waters had gone we phoned the maternity unit and they asked us to come in and get checked. Going to hospital at 11pm clutching a sanitary pad that had the 'mystery fluid' in it was not fun but they confirmed it was discharge in the end and sent us back home. A right pain to go through with but at least it was peace of mind. It's just not worth guessing or taking a chance imo.

Amazing! Fingers crossed today is the day, then! Although hopefully a nice gentle VBAC.

I’ve actually got an independent midwife, she’s aware and will be here at half ten, but I was impatient for answers hence posting 😂

Hopefully this will become a live birth thread!

Good luck Smile

Midwife reckons it was just show, but keep a pad in and let her know if it’s wet. Baby should be here within 3-4 days, most likely!

Good luck!

Sadly it was definitely just the plug, and I’ve now been having sporadic contractions since I posted. Night before last had about 3hs of 8-10mins apart, which was exciting until they tailed off and haven’t been back with anywhere near that level of regularity/intensity since. 40+6 by now and getting pretty fed up! Midwife said likely by the weekend and she doesn’t think I’ll need the induction I’ve got booked for Wednesday...! So let’s see.

Good luck.love a birth thread!I rember being quite excited by the end that meeting babies was soon coming(I had 4)

Goostacean · 08/12/2019 02:07

Okay, this time it definitely WAS my waters. Big splash... not what you need at 2am, but at least baby is on his way!

DramaAlpaca · 08/12/2019 02:10

Oh! Best of luck, hope all goes well.

Goostacean · 08/12/2019 02:15

Thanks! Poor DH (who has chosen tonight of all nights to be ill) has cleaned the bathroom floor, and I’m feeling much less like an overinflated balloon/whale... Grin

@Goostacean I'm intruiged, has baby arrived yet?! Hope all is well. I'm 25 weeks today and love reading about womens births on here, although I am sh*tting a brick myself 🤣

Goostacean · 08/12/2019 02:50

Not yet- hopefully soonish... waters went an hour ago and contractions have started up, 8 mins apart so... now we wait! So far much better than last time, but we’ll see how it goes. Am hoping for a VBAC.

Eek this is so exciting OP!! DH told me tonight he'd love one more. With 3 girls of 15, 13 & 8 it's not happening 🤣 x

Newmumma83 · 08/12/2019 02:58

Super exciting op!! Hope your doing ok! Not long we hope and you can cuddle your baby Flowers

Goostacean · 08/12/2019 04:25

Yeah, doing okay... less than 5min intervals according to my app but am coping remarkably well compared to last time so a bit worried I’m doing something wrong!

Your body remembers these things!
Good luck

Goostacean · 08/12/2019 06:24

Midwife just left, all observations good but baby is dangerously close to being back-to-back so am under strict instructions to build a nest from a pile of pillows and rest on my front for the next 4ish hours until she comes back. Still in latent phase, got a while to go... Confused

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/12/2019 06:37
