Tens machine is it worth it?

Currently 33 works and thinking about my birth plan. I’ll be induced before 40 weeks due to gestational diabetes.

Have researched and like the idea of a tens machine but wanted some real life experiences? Did you buy or rent the machine?

Did it work for you? Most people I’ve spoken to have only used gas and air!

MNHQ Update
This is an old thread, but if you've landed here while on the hunt for similar recommendations, our guide to the best TENS machine has been recently updated. It includes a wide range of options – including devices you can hire as well as purchase – and has been compiled based on the recommendations of Mumsnetters as well as maternity experts. We hope it's helpful! Flowers

The hospital leant me one. It was ok for a few hours but I had one bad contraction and completely freaked out and took the machine off super quickly.

I don't know why I freaked but it triggered a panic attack (which I do suffer with anyway) which was fun alongside contractions🙈

Yes. Got me through almost 24hrs each time of contractions during my inductions. Was amazing

I had one that I got on a whim second hand for £3. I'm not sure if I would have paid full price before I had a baby as I wasn't convinced but it was actually really good and ended up doing the rounds of our NCT group. You need to put it on earlyish for it to work. I wasn't convinced it was working but when we got to the hospital after a few hours of labour they said I was already 7cm and it was another hour before I got into a room for gas and air ... so who knows but baby was born within 2 hours of me arriving and labour was much quicker and pain free than I'd expected. I didn't go beyond level 3 of the machine as I was saving the higher levels for the pain to get really bad and used the boost button in the Uber on the way to the hospital when we went over speed bumps.
