Measuring at 9lbs at 36 weeks!

Hi
We had a growth scan last week and she is measuring at 9lbs at 36 weeks!!! Has anyone experienced this and the measuring has been inaccurate? We’ve decided on a c section as she is also breech, but they won’t do it until 39 weeks and I’m worried she’ll be 11lbs by then!!!

My second baby was 9 lbs at 36 weeks but I had already had labour stopped at 28 weeks so he was more than ready to be born.

He was born vaginally at 37 weeks weighing 9.5 lbs.

Why would it be worrying if she was 11lbs?
Genuine questions btw, I'm not trying to be goady lol. I don't know much/anything about c-sections. Would it be bad for baby's health?

Dd was estimated to be +10lbs at birth. She popped out at 6lb 11, thankfully because I had a vaginal birth!

Growth scans are notoriously inaccurate. I wouldn’t worry.

I was told DD was already 9lbs by 38wks. She was born 10 days late (during which I feared she would be huuuge!) at 8lb8oz.

Growth scans measured mine big all through the pregnancy. I had an induction for macrosomia. Baby born at 40+2 at 8lbs12oz. Last growth scan at 38 weeks had him at 10.5lbs already.

All guesswork and flawed maths. Just don't panic. If baby is big, that's fab. If they're smaller than you've been told, that's fab too. Really don't think it makes a difference in labour. I had an episiotomy and forceps as mine has a large head. I'm fine and so if he :-)

I was told 8lb at 37 week growth scan. I am 5ft. He was born at 42 weeks weighing 7lb10oz. Apparently they can be out by quite a large margin.

I was told that one of mine was over 9lb and was born weighing just under 8. I'm not sure of the accuracy of the measuring!

Have they ruled out any potential problems like gestational diabetes? If so, then it's just a matter of having a large baby. If you're having a c-section, the size of the baby doesn't matter so much. It's mainly the position that could cause an issue. My youngest still needed forceps during my section because of his position.

I had two big babies. DS1 was born at 41 weeks and 9lbs 1. DS2 was 8.5lbs and born at 38 weeks. So God only knows how big he would have been if I'd got to 41 weeks with him! It isn't really an issue. They were both c-sections for reasons other than their size. They're both tall for their age now at 6 and 4.

The main problem was is the latter stages of pregnancy, I was very large and uncomfortable. I'm only short and had a huge bump. With my youngest, I had to go on mate leave by 34 weeks and was really uncomfortable right up to having him.

I have been tested for gd and it was negative. I’m not huge either, I’ve only gained about 4kg the entire pregnancy!
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Ds was measured at 9lb at 39+4. I'm quite short of torso so asked redused to leave until I got a sweep (was also very fed up of pregnancy). Sweep worked but my body didnt so had emcs 2 days later and he was 8lb 11oz.

Though I have also known of a friend who was told her baby was going to be huge and was actually around 6lbs.

I was told ds was already over 6lbs at 32 weeks.. Born at 37 weeks weighing only 5lb2

I was told mine was 9lb+ at 36 weeks. When I went in to be enduced at 42 weeks I'd repacked my hospital bag with 0-3 month baby clothes rather than newborn. Weeping gently that the lovely little baby grow and hat I'd planned to bring him home in wouldn't be worn. He arrived at 42+3 weighing a bang on average 7lb8oz. And yes my DH had to bring in newborn clothes for him and yes the going home outfit was worn.

Don’t worry about having a huge baby especially if a section, big babies are lovely and squishy. Mine were 9lb 3 - 10lb 9. Never had growth scans but was told from the size of me they wouldn’t be tiny.

I had quite a few friends who were panicked by growth scans that the baby was already measuring ‘well over 10lb’ with 3 weeks to go, but were actually born at 6/7lb!

I don’t think they are terribly reliable!

My growth scan was accurate at 39 weeks, they said at term he’d weigh no more than 6lb 2 and he was born exactly 6lb2 a week later.
People’s experiences are all very different by the sounds of it as to whether they are accurate or not!

I had a scan the day before I was induced and was told he was 10lb. He was 8lb 2oz

Yes I was told the same, she came out bang on 40 weeks at 7lb 6oz, that was even after a growth scan.

I was never told what weight my children were going to be before birth, had no idea they told people that. I would imaging my ds2 was about 9lbs at 36 weeks he was 10lbs when he was born. I wouldn't worry, my DS 1 was smaller. Didn't make a difference to labour, well the second was much faster.

@Drogosnextwife they only tell you of you've had growth scans for small/big bumps. I asked as well as I wanted to know if I needed to buy an smaller baby stuff!
this time around I’ve got growth scans as well... so will be comparing the sizes from the 1st baby to guess the size!

If you have late scans for whatever reasons than can give an estimated weight based on measurements they take head circumference and femur length as used but they are only an estimate and not always accurate.

I'm 158 cm and DD was 4.2 kilos / 9.4 lbs. She was so big because tbh I ate too much during pregnancy and took these super antenatal vitamins that worked a little too well ! After several induction attempts I had to have an emergency c section. She was my first and in hindsight I loved having a big baby as she just felt a bit more robust than the tiny little ones my Nct friends had. A few years on she's like a porcelain doll. I cried over every one of those little fat creases that she grew out of in the first year. I was sad I couldn't give birth naturally but it just didn't happen, baby was healthy and my sister who's a midwife said it would have been a horrific birth due to her size / my shape ! This time round I've taken no extra super vitamins and watched what I've eaten and I'm much much smaller !

Serial growth scans are more accurate than one off ones... I was told 9lb5 at 42 weeks. Baby was born two days later 11lb5 😂

Had serial scans with next baby from 28 to 36w and showed over 95th centile 'at least 10lb'... He was 11lb10 at 41+1 and had sticky shoulders so I'm glad I had them, and went for induction earlier. I didn't have GDM nor am I overweight, I jsut make big, healthy, cuddly babies 😊

Yes no 4 was that size. I was induced at just on 39 weeks because of his size. I had previously had 3 big babies and no diabetes, also a history of very quick labours. He was born at 11 lb so I was pleased I'd been induced as the likelihood is I would have had him at home.
