TENS machine

I'd like to purchase a TENS machine for my labour but there's so many different ones at massively differing prices - I'm confused!

E.g. this one is £8.95: eBay link

This one is £22.30: Amazon link

So are there really any main differences that are worth spending the extra that anyone can advise on?

MNHQ Update
This is a very old thread, but if you've landed here while on the hunt for similar recommendations, our guide to the best TENS machine has been recently updated. Based on the tried and tested recommendations of Mumsnetters, the page includes a wide range of options including machines for hire. We hope it's helpful! Flowers

You need a specific maternity one with a boost setting. I don’t think either of those are suitable from a quick glance.

I got mine (Mama TENS) second hand on eBay and just bought new pads.

I hired mine for about £20!

Agree with pp, neither of those are maternity. I used this one, pricier at £50 but I borrowed mine from a friend and you can hire it for less. Was invaluable in both labours id massively recommend one. www.mothercare.com/tens-machines/elle-tens-maternity-tens-–-to-buy/242585.html?wgu=11983_196673_15404088745098_50c3f53234&wgexpiry=1548184874&utm_source=webgains&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_content=91999&utm_campaign=RedBrain%20Ltd_196673

I hired the Elle TENS one for about £20and it was amazing

affectionincoldclimate · 26/10/2018 21:37

Hired it for 20 quid, NHS grade. Most pharmacies have them in stock for hire. Did the job and didn't have to spend £££

Elle tens was amazing. Cost a bit but so worth it

I got the Elle tens one. It was £30 to hire and £40 to buy so I bought it because I thought might have another baby/could lend it to friends. It was absolutely brilliant in my labour - my only pain relief to 9cm - and 3 friends have since used it. It’s one of my best purchases!

I hired the Elle Tens twice. Worth it both times!

Another one here that hired an Elle tens machine. Was awesome. The boost button gave me something to distract myself with during contractions.

I just ordered one today for hiring from the birth ease website for £22! It's a proper maternity one too (the brand is Elle) so might be worth a look 😊

Another vote for Elle TENS! Mine has seen a lot of use, as I have lent it to friends. Will be using it for my second labour next year. If was invaluable during my birth of No. 1 and was my only pain relief.
