From first twinge to baby in your arms, how long were your labours?

Ds is due in a week and labour with DD was 30 hours total...hoping it will be quicker this time!

OP posts:

10 hours quicker

14 followed by 4.

My third was 6 hours though.

BothersomeCrow · 24/03/2018 16:00

Half as long (20 rather than 40 hours).

Drogonssmile · 24/03/2018 16:03

Half as quick 24hrs vs 12 start to finish. Second labour was a lot more relaxed and hurt less even though baby was bigger and I still had 2nd degree tear. Was in water and I highly recommend it. Good luck op Thanks

Aprilmightmemynewname · 24/03/2018 16:03

First 17 hours.
Second less than 3.
Third less than 3.
Forth less than 3.
Fifth was back to back about 8 hours.
Sixth 2 hours.

n0ne · 24/03/2018 16:04

First was 24 hours from first twinge to babe in arms, second was 5 hours.

NymeriaStark · 24/03/2018 16:07

Crikey, my first was 40 mins. Not had a second yet but maybe I should camp out at the hospital if I do?!

isthistoonosy · 24/03/2018 16:08

First was 12 hours, second 7 hours.

DomesticAnarchist · 24/03/2018 16:10

12hrs then 6hrs

@NymeriaStark I think you've got grounds for an elective c-section.

Or get your DP on a midwifery course?!

greathat · 24/03/2018 16:12

First 3 hours, second was 40 mins. They didn't appear to believe me much either time. The machines don't seem to pick up my contractions. After the second they said to come in at the first twinge if I had another!

GlitterBurps · 24/03/2018 16:18

First twinge (beginning of regular contractions) started at lunchtime Sunday and had DS1 Monday afternoon so about 28hours.

DS2 no twinges bump just felt heavy and solid, waters broke at home at 4pm and he was born just after 8pm. Bloody midwife didn’t believe me when i said I needed to push and that the baby was coming as I was ‘too calm’ it was just as they changed shift so new midwife came and he was born 4mins later!

Babyiwantabump · 24/03/2018 16:20

First was 72 hours from first pain to babe in arms. Second was 2 hours 14 minutes!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 24/03/2018 16:26

First - first contraction 12.30am, babe in arms 5.45pm, so 17 hours all in (although things only really ramped up in the last few hours).
Second - decided they probably weren’t Braxton Hicks by about 11.30pm, holding baby by 2.30am - so 3hrs ish. Very intense and a bit of a shock! 36w tomorrow with DC3 and not sure what to expect Shock

Natsku · 24/03/2018 16:26

First 13 hours, second 24 hours

tiokiko · 24/03/2018 16:26

First 72h (only last 6h in hospital). Second 90 mins from first twinge to baby born Shock

missmorleyme · 24/03/2018 16:33

16 hours with first. 12 with second (would probably have been longer as i had an emergency csection and was only 7cm dilated) and 8 with 3 dc.

GeekyWombat · 24/03/2018 16:38

First was six hours.

Second was 45 minutes. I gave birth on the hallway floor before I’d even got DD to the sitter.

First was 12 hours, second was 6, third was 3. It was half as long as the last time. I would assume that if I had another I would have an hour and a half 😂

Knitjob · 24/03/2018 17:10

First- 14 hours
Second- 20 minutes
Third- preparing for something stupidly fast, ended up being 4 hours

Midlandertoofarfromthesea · 24/03/2018 17:23

1st active labour (4cm+) was 20 hours (35 hours from waters breaking and first twinges)
2nd labour: officially 10mins according the midwife after he was born on the ward! This was about 12 hours after being induced and 36 hours after waters breaking, and first (albeit for the first day very minor) twinges.
So lots of potential for it being so, so much easier! I hope it is for you too.

GreenMeerkat · 24/03/2018 17:49

Mine aren't the best examples as they both ended in EMCS for different reasons but

First labour 29 hours
Second labour 5 hours

Gunpowder · 24/03/2018 17:59

DC1 13 hours,
DC2 5 hours,
DTs 13 hours

Think DC1 and DTs would have been quicker if I hadn’t gone into hospital, that always slows everything down for me.

3boysandabump · 24/03/2018 19:32

Dc1 - 34 hours
Dc2 - 16 hours
Dc3 - 0 hours (elcs)

MyKingdomForBrie · 24/03/2018 19:35

Oh god I love this thread, my first was about 4 hours active labour so second time should be a breeze!

crispsahoy · 24/03/2018 19:36

1: csection @36+6 weeks
2: 18 hours @40weeks from first twinge
3: 1hr 40mins @40+1 from first twinge
