Period like pain

I'm 39+1 day and I've a few what I think are Braxton hicks and this morning have woken up with period type cramping. At my last app baby was 4/5th engaged, I've had no bleeding or mucus yet. Anyone else experience this?

Period-type cramps were how my last labour started, also at 39+1. I think you might be in labour, OP!

TooMinty · 15/08/2017 09:42

Sounds like labour to me too. Good luck! x

alltheworld · 15/08/2017 09:44

That is how mine started

lightcola · 15/08/2017 09:47

Things are definitely moving along. It could stop again though so don't panic. Just keep an eye on it and maybe do some gentle walking. Good luck.

Thanks. I've had a pain once an hour and lasts about 20-30 mins just now. Luckily my midwife appointment is at 2pm today 😊

I had period like cramps about 5 days before I went into labour with my dd. It was constant though, like I was actually getting my period, not like contractions. I suspect it was just everything getting ready to happen. When I actually went into labour, it started as period like cramps, but coming regularly in waves and then going away, like contractions. My daughter was born about 10 hours after that.

So had my appointment. I'm still unsure of it's early onset of labour. But cramps have eased for now.... My cervix is tilted backwards so it's harder to tell or to sweep.

Watching with interest! Today is my due date and I have been having awful period-like cramps on and off all morning. I had convinced myself that this DC would be late like DC1 was so I am feeling slightly unprepared and not sure whether this might be "it" or whether it's a false alarm...

30Sarah · 16/08/2017 11:17

Mine did settle for the night and got 5 hours sleep but have started up again this morning. With baby moving a lot! Have you phoned your obs triage? I phone yesterday and they were really helpful and put my mind at ease. Good luck!!!

Thanks Sarah - I'm going to wait til this afternoon and keep an eye on things, and if it feels like the pain is continuing or ramping up I will give triage a call. Baby has also been moving loads! Good luck to you too Smile

Bonelessbanquet · 16/08/2017 11:47

I only had period like pains and backache, luckily my waters had broken and had to go in to get them checked. I was adamant I wasn't having contractions and when they checked my they could see DDs head!

ZigAZigAhh · 16/08/2017 11:50

Oh my goodness Boneless Shock

30Sarah · 16/08/2017 12:13

Boneless how long did you have the pains before your waters broke? I'm on day 2 now.

Madonna9 · 16/08/2017 12:20

Exciting Sarah30! Good luck, hope you'll get to meet your baby soon now

Bonelessbanquet · 16/08/2017 12:57

About 24 hours, they wasn't significant pains if that makes sense though, more like a mild ache. I honestly feel had my waters not had broken that I'd of given birth at home. I'd had terrible periods since being 11 though, since having my DD they have been a lot lighter and less painful so really nervous of giving birth this time as my pain threshold must be a lot lower!

Bonelessbanquet · 16/08/2017 12:58

Fingers crossed this is it for you and you'll be snuggling with your newborn shortly!

30Sarah · 18/08/2017 07:38

Today is day 4 for the contractions! Getting shorter but still there!

TooMinty · 18/08/2017 08:42

Time for some pineapple and a spicy curry...
Actually, what worked for me was building flat pack IKEA furniture!

30Sarah · 18/08/2017 10:20

I've done the curry and walking up and stairs and got down to 6 mins....but need to wait until 3-4 now (spoke too many midwives at the hospital so different info) and make it better my cervix is tilted backwards so I have no idea if my waters will break. Sorry also getting fed up. Confused

Try bouncing on a yoga ball if you've got one? Hopefully this message is too late and you are cuddling a baby now!

30Sarah · 18/08/2017 17:32

Still no baby only a cm after all this time! But I'm going to try that and another bath

OP posts:
wobblywonderwoman · 18/08/2017 17:34

Maybe try and rest too. Good luck !! It won't be long.

TooMinty · 18/08/2017 18:31

It's frustrating isn't it? Try to get some rest and maybe do something to take your mind off it, a good film or a book in bed. I went in when my waters broke and I was at 4cm, 12 hours of contractions later I was still at 4cm 😡

sprite25 · 18/08/2017 20:05

Am watching this with interest as I've been getting light period like aching down underneath my bump for the past few days but am only just 35 weeks! However I did have a scan today as baby is measuring big Confused

ZigAZigAhh · 18/08/2017 20:16

Wishing you all the best for some progress, Sarah ! Mine went away completely and has been intermittent since - am 40+2 now and not expecting anything to happen any time soon!
