Breech baby

Hi Ladies. I've been told that my lo is still breech, has been since we had our last scan. There is still time for her to turn naturally, hopefully. I just wondered if any other Mums on here had a baby that stayed breech? What happened? Did the Obstetrician try to turn them? Did they offer you a CS? Thanks

Mine was breech but not until about 35 weeks. They tried to turn her but failed, so said I had to have a CS. No-one in the hospital was experienced enough to deliver a breech vaginally so there was no choice.

My LO was breech till 37 weeks, my consultant mentioned an ECV but reading about it I was really not happy to have that procedure.
Check out spinningbabies.com/ for exercises you can do to encourage your baby to turn. It worked for me. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy OP.

Mine stayed breech. Had a failed ecv, glad I tried. Had a planned c-section at 39 weeks. I didn't bother researching natural breech births as I didn't fancy it.

Thanks ladies. I don't think i would be prepared to risk a vaginal breech birth, even if they offered to try, id rather have a planned c-sec. I don't like the sound of them trying to turn the little one manually either, does it hurt? The exercises sound a lot less invasive, so maybe an option if we are still in this position further down the line.

My first was breech, found out whilst in labour at 38 weeks.
There was no one in the hospital who had ever manually moved a breech baby so c section it was!

Mine was breech. They offered me the chance to try an ECV or go straight for c section.

I went straight for c section as was not happy with the success rates of the ECV (think they said to me it was 50/50). Glad I did and I'd do it again in an instant.

Hi obs, im 24 + 2 atm, so still plenty of time i think for her to move. All her kicks and movements have been very low down, so i did wonder, and when i went to antenatal today the mw said, she is still breech.

I had an unsuccessful ECV and it was very, very unpleasant and painful. I wish I hadn't. I had a planned CS as the hospital staff said they were not skilled at vaginal breech delivery. It was my choice but I chose a CS.

Good luck with whatever you decide. There is still time for the baby to turn!

I bet that was a bit of a shock wishes! i think c-sec definitely the safest bet, in my opinion.

Axo, you have just confirmed my suspicions of how an ECV would be! I bet it's not nice for mum to be or baby! Not going to put us through that trauma for 50/50 success rate.

Another unsuccessful ECV here. Not sure I'd describe it as painful, but certainly uncomfortable. I was (strongly!) advised to have an elective c-section though they did say I could try for vaginal. The other option they gave me was to try another ECV once I'd had the spinal at the start of the ECS, and if he turned they would induce me rather than do the ECS, but given inductions seem to end up in EMCS quite often I went straight for the ECS. It all worked out fine. They said later it was the best choice as he was on the large side at 9lb and also had a rather big head since it had never engaged in my sacrum!

Try the exercises on spinning babies, you still have quite a bit of time for baby to turn
DC2 was breech at 37 weeks and I was offered an ECV or C-section, they basically laughed at me when I asked about natural breech delivery! I was really upset but in the end went for the ECV at 37+4 after lots of talking with the nurse about it and it was succesful and the actual turning bit only took two minutes. The worst bit was the injection they gave me before to relax stomach muscles, my blood pressure dropped very quickly and I felt sick but it was all good in the end.

Forgot to add - our NHS trust offered moxibustion, which some people seem to swear by. I didn't try it myself but you could give it a go!

You've got loads of time, don't worry! Mine turned at nearly 38 weeks when I was just considering an ECV. The spinning babies site is great, and get a birthing ball to bounce and rock on! Good luck!

My DD was breech and didn't turn I'm glad I had a cesarean anyway. Apparently ECVs are super uncomfortable and awful, glad I didnt do it! Planned cesarean was great for me Smile

My first baby was breech the whole time until she turned herself at 36 weeks (Yh that was fun). I did have a c section anyway though.

I found out my ds was breech when I turned up in labour at 5cm at the hospital. They offered me a c section but also said I could try to do it vaginally (second baby so said it would probably be easier than if first). I had an mild epidural to help stop the involuntary pushing and then he got a bit distressed at 10cm so I had a full epidural. They said I could have 'one chance' at pushing him out or it would be a c section so I bloody well did it. Had to have an episiotomy.

I declined a stretch and sweep a few days before he was born which would have revealed that he was breech and probably would've led to a c section before I went into labour. Funny how things turn out.

My son was breech right up until my waters broke and he turned then. I had a scan on the Monday and booked in for CS the following Monday 37 weeks and the Wednesday before the CS was when waters went and he turned. We didn't know he had turned until we turned up at the hospital. Was a bit of a relief but I had so mentally prepared for CS that was not zoned in for natural birth.

My baby was breech all way through. They asked me to think about a c section which I didn't want as I was scared. My baby was small and I went into labour early 36 weeks. I got to the hospital and was 6cm dilated. I asked if I could try natural delivery. They said yes and I did!

Nice to hear that some ladies managed a vaginal birth. Its amazing that the baby can still turn in labour!

My mum was a breech baby. If mine were breech, I'd still have opted for vaginal delivery. Mine where head first. With first born I had an epidural. Second was drug free and an even larger baby. Far preferred the natural delivery.

Of course, that is just my opinion and take on it. You need to do what you feel most safe and comfortable with. Hope it all goes well for you x

My daughter was breech from about 30 weeks. I refused the ECV as the risks concerned me. We had a planned section that went really well. I didn't want to attempt a vaginal birth.

They don't even really worry about breech babies until 34+ weeks as they flip back and forth all the time so don't worry.

Son was breech for the last few weeks. He turned two days before the birth.
