Breech baby

Hi Ladies. I've been told that my lo is still breech, has been since we had our last scan. There is still time for her to turn naturally, hopefully. I just wondered if any other Mums on here had a baby that stayed breech? What happened? Did the Obstetrician try to turn them? Did they offer you a CS? Thanks

Thanks to everyone who replied and the good luck wishes. It is still early days, so fingers crossed lo will turn. If not then I don't think i will be agreeing to an ECV. The success rate only being 50/50 and the fact that sometimes babys heartbeat can dip low and you can end up being taken in for an emergency c-section! Id rather be prepared and have a planned c-section tbh.

My second was breech for a while and I went to acupuncture... she also gave me stuff to burn near my toes, looks mad! But worked! Acupuncture helped me to a drug free vbac and I couldn't recommend it more

I found out my DD was breech at my 41 week check (it had been missed, she hadn't moved!). I was referred straight to a consultant who basically told me to have a c-section. He said I could try an ECV but there was a less than 10% chance of success with her being so big and it being so late. I asked what the risks of ECV were and he said worst case scenario I'd have to have an emergency c-sec so I decided to try it (given that the other outcomes were c-section anyway). I was lucky that the breech clinic was running that afternoon so I had a very experienced midwife do the procedure. I'd been doing hypnobirthing so just used those breathing techniques to relax. They didn't give me the drugs as they like to try it first without. They turned her in less than 5mins. It was absolutely amazing! I'd describe it as uncomfortable but not overly painful. The hardest bit for me was trying to stay relaxed when you could feel her moving, I wanted to jump up and down I was so excited it was working.

For you I'd be looking at spinning babies, acupuncture or moxibustion first. But if all of that fails I thought the ECV was a brilliant procedure that allowed me to give birth vaginally.

Like a pp I found ECV incredibly painful and was left with bruising all across the top of the bump. A nurse in the room asked me (after the consultant had left) "was that as brutal as it looked?". Yes it was.

My third was breech. I found out at 8cm dilated. I had a sweep the day before and spent the day at mau on monitors and being examined by zillions of drs because my blood pressure was high. No one spotted that she was breech.
I went from 8cm to pushing her out within minutes and we were fine. I didn't even tear which surprised me as I did with the other two who were head first and smaller!
I'm pregnant now and if this baby is breech I want a cs. The panic on the professional's faces while they were delivering her did not inspire confidence.

Three of my friends have vaginally delivered breech babies in the last two months, all three without any problems. It's not legal in the state next to us (to let a midwife try) so people are relocating to our state for their births if they want to try.

Dd2 was head down and engaged till 38 weeks when she decided to turn to transverse. I had I very quick painless ecv and induction immediately after.

You really don't know what position they will end up in till you are are in labour as there is always time to move!

Current 31 weeks with one that has never been head down at any check or scan!

BradleyPooper · 04/03/2017 13:14

My dd2 was breech at 39 weeks, turned at 40, breech at 41. Moxibustion worked for us, as did handstands in the swimming pool...... I wasn't in the uk but a country where you have scans in your consultants office whenever you like so we knew for sure she was moving around so much. Breech births are not permitted in that country so I had a c section. No problem at all, healed fast, more pleasant and easier experience than my induced experience of dd1 but glad to have both experiences.

mimiholls · 04/03/2017 13:42

I think you're getting ahead of yourself. At 24 weeks babies are in all sorts of positions as there's so much space to move around. Give it at least another 10 weeks before you start worrying.

seven201 · 04/03/2017 19:39

Even though my ecv failed I'm still glad I tried. You should ask what the hospital's success rate is for them as mine was 60:40. My friend had a successful one there the week after my failed one. Also the hospital told me they had had ZERO emergency situations from ecv's. They monitor the baby very very closely. Just saying, obviously up to you. It's very very early for you though so hopefully yours will turn. I loved my c-section. I don't feel I missed out at all.

cheeeeselover · 04/03/2017 20:01

My 4th was breech and also had a large head apparently, so vaginal birth was very risky. Because if head seems bigger than the bum it could risk getting stuck. However a cs was also huge because I had suffered a massive pe and was on heparin, making an epidural dangerous due to high risk of spinal bleeding (leading to paralysis) . A general was also out as because of the pe my heart became irregular so that too risky to my life. So a bit of a shit situation tbh. The hospital I was at wouldn't keep me as a patient and I was referred to another an hour away.

Baby didn't turn, they would not try and turn as because of my medical condition they couldn't risk an emergency cs (as turning can sometimes result in problems and a need to get baby out ASAP). Anyway in the end I had another scan whilst going in labour early at specialist hospital and they decided head might be just about be ok.

They gave me the choice . So ended up with a vaginal birth and all was ok, although there were about 10 various doctors for both Me and baby in the room and an emergency cs on standby. The medical team I had were amazing!

I think though they allowed this only because it was my fourth and all other options were just as risky. I had numerous scans and even X-rays to check if baby would fit! Is this your first? If not they might let you deliver vaginally. I think with a first baby they tend to do a cs (unless reasons why they can't)

Lf803 · 04/03/2017 20:05

My baby never turned.. she was a pain from the beginning they couldn't get her measurements st the scans because she wouldn't move etc I went to see the consultant 2 weeks before my due date and he recommended trying a natural birth if I was happy to which I agreed. That afternoon my waters broke and when I got to hospital she was actually feet first so have to have an emergency C section. She's now 4 and still stubborn Wink

firsttimemum15 · 04/03/2017 20:09

Breech baby whole way through. I was offered evc and discussed possibility of nathural birth.

Chose not to have evc and had planned c section instead.

Found spinning babies website overly complicated

SkimbleshanksTheRailwayCat · 04/03/2017 21:17

Breech baby diagnosed when I turned up at hospital 10cm dilated. They readied me for cs, then said DC was too far down birth canal so I'd have to do vaginal. First DC. All well though.
