Truth about second labour

peaceloveandbiscuits · 30/01/2017 15:21

Is there any truth in the anecdote about your second labour being about half the time of your first?

How quick were your first and second labours?

My first was six hours and I'm a bit apprehensive about the possibility of a three hour labour this time!

Nanasueathome · 30/01/2017 15:22

My first was about 20 hours
My second was 30 mins.........

angelopal · 30/01/2017 15:23

My first was 6hrs and second 3.5hrs.

CocoLoco87 · 30/01/2017 15:24

24 hours vs 21 hours... so yes, quicker...but not necessarily by half lol!

NapQueen · 30/01/2017 15:25

My second labour and delivery was a really brilliant experience, after a hideous first labour.

Dc1 - 24 hours from first contraction to delivery. Roughly 8 hours in "active labour" which I've been told is 7cm plus.

Dc2 - 4h20 min from first contraction to delivery, 20 mins in active labour.

Stiddleficks · 30/01/2017 15:25

My first was 19 1/2 hours, 2nd 1 1/2hours.

YokoUhOh · 30/01/2017 15:27

1st: DS1 born 24 hours from waters breaking, 4 hours of pushing

2nd: DS2 born 2 hours after waters broke, 2 pushes (5 minutes-ish)

Chasingsquirrels · 30/01/2017 15:28

1st - around 2 hours
2nd - less than 15 mins

heateallthebuns · 30/01/2017 15:28

First about 12 hours, second one hour.

savagehk · 30/01/2017 15:28

I'm hoping for something shorter than my approx 31 hour labour last time :D

Thingywhatsit · 30/01/2017 15:29

No roughly same time, same pattern of in distress prior to proper contractions and problems pushing out due to both having big heads!

oldestmumaintheworld · 30/01/2017 15:31

No. My first was seven hours and easy(ish), my second was way longer and awful. But I did have a huge second baby

TheGrumpySquirrel · 30/01/2017 15:31

Anyone have experience of second labour ten years or more after your first?

peaceloveandbiscuits · 30/01/2017 15:33

Mixed bag then, but majority seem to have had much quicker second labours. Eek. It's at least half an hour to the hospital without traffic Confused

OP posts:
Afreshstartplease · 30/01/2017 15:35

First 12 hours
Second 12 hours
Third 5 hours
Fourth 7 hours

Helspopje · 30/01/2017 15:37

First 42min
Second 24min
Third 13 min

Any bets on #4 (edd today)?

BonesyBones · 30/01/2017 15:37

My first was 41hrs and second was 6hrs. Like NapQueen my first was awful, second was a dream by comparison.

Yes! Much the sane as first really, in active labour 4 hours with first 3 with second 8 years later, it was my third in November that was awful

Wolfiefan · 30/01/2017 15:38

First 10 1/2 hours.
Second less than an hour.

Afreshstartplease · 30/01/2017 15:38

My second was my worst out of the four TBH including DC4 who was back to back

Yankeetarts · 30/01/2017 15:39

My 1st was 29 hours and 2nd 18

Starduke · 30/01/2017 15:39

What are we counting from?

From 3cm :
Birth 1 = 8 hours
Birth 2 = 2 hours

The second one hurt like buggery because the epidural didn't work and because it all happened quicker.

Still, all forgotten now mostly

Blueredballoon · 30/01/2017 15:39

Mine were about the same time (about 9 hours each) and very different , but the pushing stage with my second was about 4 seconds long Grin

Cwtchythings · 30/01/2017 15:41

First 4 hours, second 2 hours. Taking bets on no. 3 in March!

Gaaaah · 30/01/2017 15:43

First was 55 hours and utterly horrendous. Second, 21. Third (induced) 3 hours, crikey that was a shock after the others! Fourth, 7 hours. Fifth, 10 hours.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 30/01/2017 15:44

Similar lengths (7-8 hours) but with DD1 I was pushing for about 45 mins, whereas with DD2 the pushing bit was recorded as 2 mins, but I think it was actually more like 30 seconds. She shot out like a cork out of a champagne bottle.
