When did you have it and did it work? How quickly did things start?

Due to have one at 39+5, and 40. Will end up with c section if I don't go into labour by 40 +4.

With my first daughter it took 24 hours, with my second it was 6 hours later that contractions started properly.

Good luck! FlowersSmile

AyeAmarok · 30/01/2017 06:02

I had one at 40+6 IIRC, didn't work. Then had another at 41+5. Didn't work either! I was induced a few days later.

Mablethorpe · 30/01/2017 06:25

I had two with my last pregnancy, one at 40+2 and another at 41 exactly. Neither worked and was induced at 42 weeks in the end.

ChilliMum · 30/01/2017 06:26

With my 2nd can't remember exactly but around 40 weeks.
Midwife said she didn't think it would help as my cervix was still v.firm and she would probably need to do another in a few days. I was in labour by the evening.

Sparrowlegs248 · 30/01/2017 07:30

As ever with these things, it's so variable isn't it?!?! Thanks for your answers.

I had one at 39+5 and went into labour late that night, baby born less than 24 hours after sweep

BabyHaribo · 30/01/2017 07:32

Mine worked within 24 hours even though midwife said my cervix was 'unfavourable'

I think you are right it's so variable good luck though

HandbagFan · 30/01/2017 07:34

Had two. Didn't work.

Boogers · 30/01/2017 08:26

1st Sweep at 37 weeks due to reduced movement - 1cm dilated
2nd sweep at 40 weeks 3-4cm dliated, went into labour at 40+5

WellTidy · 30/01/2017 10:24

I had one at 40w. Did nothing. Went into labour 5 days later, very slow, waters broken, failure to progress, EMCS, baby born 40+7.

vroc81 · 30/01/2017 10:35

I had five... yes five... I was the queen of the sweeps in our NCT group..

First one on due date and then everytime they checked my blood pressure and monitored me until they induced me at 40+10..

One of the midwives that had done it a couple of times while running the checks waved at me as I went in to theater for my EMCS and I made the collection of people with my bed laugh when I said it was nice to see her fingers moving free from my body!

MsStricty · 30/01/2017 10:37

Two sweeps, didn't work. Acupuncture needles in my shins and back brought on contractions within one or two minutes - the acupuncturist had to pull them out the contractions were so strong!

Sparrowlegs248 · 30/01/2017 11:55

Interesting msstricty!

I had two sweeps at 40-41 weeks, I think, can't remember exactly. Neither worked, and I was induced on 41+6. Contractions started within minutes but DS really didn't want to come out so I was in labour for 24 hours.

Butterpuff · 30/01/2017 12:11

40+11 here contractions started about 36 hours later..........and ended in a section at 40+15 good luck. Smile

AllTheLight · 30/01/2017 12:18

I had a sweep at 40+6 and it 'worked' in the sense that I went into labour within 24 hours (but who knows if that was a direct result of the sweep or would have happened anyway).

40+4 seems quite early to have a c-section though (unless there are other risk factors)?

nuggles · 30/01/2017 15:49

I had 5 sweeps (I was doing anything and everything I could to avoid another induction) and believe they did help things along:

41 weeks sweep 1cm
41+1 sweep 2cm
41 + 3 sweep 5cm
41 + 4 had two sweeps one whilst having waters broken and second an hour after waters at 6cm

Contractions came on strong after the 5th!

ExpectoPatronummmm · 30/01/2017 18:51

Had a sweep at 41 weeks

Quote midwife "wow I can feel the head.. you'll definetly give birth in the next 24 hours!"

One week later still no baby so had to be induced

Nikki2ol6 · 30/01/2017 19:27

I thought it was working I lost my plug the next day and began having loose stools and not feeling hungry at all, pains would start and stop.... this went on for a day then they broke my water and I was contracting pretty much immediately and off I went lol

Sparrowlegs248 · 30/01/2017 19:33

Thanks everyone. Wish me luck tomorrow. I certainly feel like something might be moving, but then I had ds at 38+6 and he was breech so never been this pregnant before, or gone into labour.

Yes, other issues so won't go too overdue.

Apparently the baby is 'well down' (2/5) and in a good position. I'm crapping myself slightly!!

nuggles · 30/01/2017 23:08

You'll be fine. Good luck x

Sparrowlegs248 · 01/02/2017 09:41

Had it yesterday around 11am. Mw wasn't expecting much but cervix had thinned, was 'favourable' and 2cm dilated! Lost a tiny bit of plug last night and quire a big blob this morning.

Wondering if things are going to start, need to go shopping and to buy a cot mattress......

I had a sweep at 40 +4 and again at 40 + 8 which worked. Can I ask the ladies who managed to get one at 39 weeks how that is? I would seriously take a sweep at 39 weeks but think if I ask my midwife she would probably say no.so how did you guys get that?
