When did you have it and did it work? How quickly did things start?

Due to have one at 39+5, and 40. Will end up with c section if I don't go into labour by 40 +4.

I had one at 40+5. Labour started about an hour later. Had a baby 7 hours after the sweep.

Everyone reacts differently to sweeps.

You know it won't be long, exciting!

I had it at 40+5. I'd been having irregular contractions for 3 days prior to it and was still having them at the time. I had it at 3pm on a Friday. I went to the hospital at 9pm on the Friday night, the midwife broke my waters manually at 3am, and gave birth at 6.58am on the Saturday.

I had one at 39+4 (was struggling) then one done by a hospital midwife she termed it "the sweep of my life" Confused (I had truly had enough by then) and baby was born the next day early am.

I went into labour 48 hours after a sweep but I'm not really sure the sweep had anything to do with it tbh I think I'd have went into labour anyway. Even the midwife said my cervix wasn't very favourable and she wasn't very confident the sweep was going to make any difference.

MargaretCabbage · 01/02/2017 13:00

With my first baby I had a sweep at 40+4 and went into the labour the next evening.

With my second baby I had an unsuccessful sweep at 40+4, then a second sweep at 40+11 and went into labour within an hour.

Waaah just been to the midwife, I'm 38+4 and was really hoping she'd be there snapping the gloves on but alas, no :( I snapped at the chance for one which she suggested we try if I wanted to BUT she can't see me again until I'm 40 + 4 Boooo! I had them with both previous pregnancies and they both worked but again, once at 40 weeks and the other at 41. Annoying!!!!

just I got mine at 39+5, other issues and previous c section mean I won't be left to go to far over, and am trying for vbac. Elcs scheduled for Monday if nothing happens naturally.

I had my sweep at 41 weeks, then contractions started 5hours later.... just as the delivery guy dropped off our takeaway. Never did get my curry and instead ended up giving birth within half an hour Smile

ohanami · 02/02/2017 22:12

I had loads. Not sure if they did anything but it made me feel better knowing I was trying to get things going (was hoping for vbac)

38+6
39+5 (dr: blimey, I expect we'll see you on labour ward this evening)
40+4 (2-3 cm and ready to pop)
41+0 - contractions started 2 hours later and I had a baby in my arms by bedtime

Midwife when I arrived on labour ward: so you had a sweep today... and... oh my God how many have you had?!

Good luck for those of you waiting
