Has any one has a successful VBAC?

Me and hubby are about to get down and dirty for #2.

I had a Emergency C-Section, and to be honest it isn't an experience I would like to repeat.

Hope some of you can give me advice!?

Me. I had emergency csection for DS1, then a VBAC 13 months later, and another 15 months after that. Lucky for me, no problems at all.

I have had a VBAC and it was about 100 times less terrifying and stressful than my emergency section first time round.

I had vbac after emerg section - had ventouse/episiotomy and he has OP and very big! I would happily have natural delivery or section - but preferably planned!

I had a vbac 12 months after an em section. IMHO it's well worth going for. Much better and a more rewarding experience. Good luck.

This is great!

I had such an awful time with my DS.

Induced 14days late.

20 hour labour.

sick all the way through.

they had me in delivery from 1cm as i was being sick and gave me an epidural and i was laid down the whole time. I only managed to get to 4cm and i can't help thinking this was because I couldn't move around and bring him down. They then gave me a section.

I keep reflecting on it and thinking 'oh, if i'd have been able to move around i would have had him natural'

I think I was robbed some how!

Anyway, DS is perfect so it was well worth it!

Hi, i had a VBAC !! i am really pro VBAC ( unless a really really really good reason why not!!}

Thanks for those lulamama - I think its really interesting how much fear guides our decision making. I knew with my second wanted to go for natural delivery but there is that thing in your head nagging at you thta it could all go wrong and end up with a section - but it didn't and all worked out fine. Now no.3 on way there are days when I could easily ring hospital and get them to book me in - but am hoping for a much more active birth this time and have done much more research and preparation. My comment earlier about having either type of delivery comes out of not really fearing either method I suppose and knowing I have the support in place after the birth.

I do think people should try for vbac unless it places mother or baby at risk - emotionally or physically.

No doubt my story is on one of those threads - DS2 was a VBAC after a very traumatic first birth. After he was born I cried as I held him, it was the most beautiful experience of my life. For me it healed the scars of the first birth.

But, but, but - it was just as difficult and could have easily have been another c-section but i got lucky, wanted it so much and had by chance a brilliant midwife.

My advice, if you can afford it, get some professional help ie: doula or private midwife. So that you have someone who knows your history and who you trust.

I had successful vbac too - like Kaz33 it really healed some emotional scars and even 3 years on I think about it every day. I decided to give it a go but was much more benign about the outcome - I would have accepted another cs if it had come to that. I think this attitude helped me to stay relaxed and go with the flow. Although having said that I was a stroppy mare on the day and refused ANY form of intervention that doctors tried to impose upon me. They couldn't argue with me - I had the only doctor in Germany that night who didn't speak near perfect English, and I certainy wasn't admitting to understanding anything she was saying

Hi All, My first was a emergency section, my second a VBAC and third a planned section and I have to say that for me the third was by far and away the best. A planned section is a completely different situation to an emergency and for me anyway, the lack of labour led to a very quick recovery.

Just wish they'd cut along the same scar line!!

I had 40 hours of labor followed by an emergency cs for my first. I had a VBAC for my second preceded by only 5 hours of labor. However, if I had it to do all over again, I would choose an elective cs for both. I was 37 and 39 respectively when I had my children and personally, although I am more fit and healthy than most, I think it's too old to give birth vaginally and I still have physical problems from the vaginal birth and my second is 4 years old.

Now you see - that pushes me back towards having an elective section - after my vbac I thought that if had another would go for elective....

I had an elective c-section for my first due to probs.. with my second I had a vbac and I felt soo proud of myself... I am going for vaginal birth again this time.... ALso the experience was fantastic..

also had vbac and it went fine and fast as well at 5 hour
read up as much as you can to be informed and think about hiring a doula are my top 2 tips

Ds was an emergency cs, dd was a vbac. Recovery after a vbac for far preferable to cs even with a "dissolvable" stitch that didn't dissolve!!

Fantastic experience - although the labour was still pretty hideous but all forgotten when those weirdy birthy hormones kick in - something I didn't get with the section. I even looked good in the post birth photos!!

Ds - regular contractions Friday afternoon - ds born by cs Sunday lunchtime.
Dd - regular contractions saturday evening -dd born using the main exit Sunday lunchtime.

Both babies were in distress and dd was actually 3 mins away from being a section - was being prepped as I pushed her out, much to midwife's delight and consultant's evident disappointment
