Hospital bag: Did your baby fit in newborn clothes?

Hi all, thinking of what to take to hospital. In for ELCS so prob will be there for 2 nights and so I think I'll need 6 changed for baby? My case is getting very full!
Growth scan indicated baby is 6lbs at 36 weeks, would you say newborn or 0-3months vests and baby grows? Thanks

11lb2, wedged him into 0-3 stuff. Newborn stuff went back in the cupboard.

My baby had been measuring quite big and then when he was born at 37 weeks he didn't even fit in newborn clothes because he was so small ..

I would take a mixture of 0-3 months to be on the safe side and a couple of newborn ones. If you are going to be in for 2 nights you might need more than 6 changes though. If you are having visitors in the hospital you could dump some extras with them beforehand and then ask them to bring the ones that will fit (any take away and wash the dirty ones). It will be quite warm in the hospital anyway, you will be doing skin to skin and if they are cold you can always swaddle them in a blanket.

lotisblue true! I hadn't even thought of that!

They wrap them up in the first 24 hours until their temp regulates. My DD was born in June and they insisted on a short sleeved vest, baby grow and swaddled her, next day she was wearing a lot less.

LotisBlue · 23/08/2016 20:00

Dixie I don't know what happened with dc1 as she was in special care, but dc2 barely wore clothes for the first couple of weeks - he was a winter baby but I kept him wrapped in blankets, for easy skin to skin, and we didn't really leave the house!

Mine was nearly 6lb and had to wear tiny baby ones! 0-3 didnt fit for months, even newborn was too big!

NotCitrus · 23/08/2016 21:23

I didn't know that newborn and 0-3 months clothes were different until baby 2 was a couple months old - we only had 0-3 upwards and didn't worry about looseness. Ds actually came home in a 6-9 month babygro after being in hospital for 3 days.

Fluffsnuts · 24/08/2016 12:05

DS was born at 11pm on a Sunday before a bank holiday Monday. Bought new born clothes but I had a diddy 6lb baby. They drowned him! DH had to wait for the super market yo open the next day to buy some small baby clothes.

Mine was 7lb but newborn was quite baggy for a while. I think different shops have different sizing though. I can't keep track of which shops do which sizes, I only remember Next do theirs a little bigger.

Liss85 · 30/08/2016 22:07

Mine is 9 days old, was expecting at least newborn as she was estimated to be big so packed them, 0-3 and some first size that were a gift (I wouldn't have hought first size as it says up to 7.8lbs). She was born 9lb 1oz and still fits perfectly in first size. 0-3 is way too long on the body. She's even fitting in some tiny baby hand me downs.

Strokethefurrywall · 05/09/2016 22:17

Mine were both in newborn for ages as were tiny. We got preemie for DS2 actually because he was so small and refused to unfurl for months.

That being said, he was a little gut bucket so moved into newborn and then 0-3 months a little quicker than DS1.

I only took newborn though as both DH and I were 6lb 5oz at birth so chances of us having big babies were slim to none.

Alansdeepbath · 06/09/2016 06:51

My first was 8lb exactly, but was still weirdly small, was in tiny baby and newborn for ages! I have packed newborn but from diff shops as they all vary slightly in size. Due date for no 2 so hopefully she'll be out soon and I can let you know what she fits in 😂😂

Alansdeepbath · 06/09/2016 06:52

As in today is due date

mrsmugoo · 06/09/2016 06:57

Nope, newborn drowned my DD, had to send out for tiny baby size and size 0 nappies.

She was 5lb13oz

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 06/09/2016 07:01

Newborn size clothes and nappies swamped DD! The hospital gave us premature baby-sized nappies until DP got new ones and SIL gave us a bunch of tiny baby clothes that she had left over.

ByTheWishingWell · 06/09/2016 07:07

DD was 7lb2oz, and newborn clothes swamped her. We had taken newborn and 0-3 o hospital, but DP ended up going out shopping for tiny baby clothes.
