Hospital bag: Did your baby fit in newborn clothes?

Hi all, thinking of what to take to hospital. In for ELCS so prob will be there for 2 nights and so I think I'll need 6 changed for baby? My case is getting very full!
Growth scan indicated baby is 6lbs at 36 weeks, would you say newborn or 0-3months vests and baby grows? Thanks

Used newborn for a month with both babies

8lb 2oz and 7lb 13oz

Boogers · 22/08/2016 21:55

DS was 8lbs 13oz and went into 0-3 babygros for about 6 weeks.

DD was 10lbs 3oz and the 0-3 babygros I'd bought her were used on the first day only, after which I went to Mothercare and bought 3-6, which again only lasted a couple of weeks. She's always been tall.

Luciferbox · 22/08/2016 21:57

DS2 was almost 10lbs and looked like the Incredible Hulk in newborn clothing I'd packed. He then and went straight into 0-3 when we got home.

cowbag1 · 22/08/2016 21:58

We found Next size 1 really small, the legs were far too short for 8lb 1oz ds. Mothercare newborn was fine though.

Anaffaquine123 · 22/08/2016 21:59

Nope, we needed early baby clothes for both our two. They were 6lb7 and 6lbs1 respectively. They didn't fit into their newborn stuff for weeks.

MakemineaGandT · 22/08/2016 22:01

8lbs 9oz - newborn stuff fitted for about a week
9lbs 7oz - had to wedge the poor boy into his newborn stuff and change him into 0-3 as soon as we got home Grin

katienana · 22/08/2016 22:03

No, ds1 was 10lb 9 oz and new born hat would not go on his head! He had to stay under a blanket on my chest while my dad was sent to buy some babygros that fit.

rubberducker · 22/08/2016 22:07

My first 2 DC were 9lb 3 and 9lb 8 respectively. Both wore newborn/ up to a month for about the first month. They were big babies but 0-3 swamped them. I'm always amazed by how many people say to go straight into 0-3.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 22/08/2016 22:08

No! He was 8lb10 and newborn clothes swamped him! Was and still am surprised by that.

JeanGenie23 · 22/08/2016 22:10

0-3 didn't fit my baby for a while she was in 0-1 for about 6 weeks. She was 7lb5oz.

Frazzled2207 · 22/08/2016 22:10

Ds2 was 9lb12 and embarrassingly didn't fit any of the newborn clothes we had packed for him. He was in blankets until dh went home to get the 0-3m stuff later that day.

JeanGenie23 · 22/08/2016 22:11

Gap newborn was really long and seemed to last forever!!

Equimum · 22/08/2016 22:13

8lb14 & 9lb 10 babies both wore newborn (labelled as upto 9lb) for the first 3-4 weeks and even then, 0-3 were pretty big.

BikeRunSki · 22/08/2016 22:13

DS was 7lb 10oz and was swamped by O-3. He spent 6 weeks or so in Newborn size towards the end with the feet cut off because he's always been lanky.

BikeRunSki · 22/08/2016 22:14

H&M do a 0-2 months size, which is handy.

Alibobbob · 22/08/2016 22:15

Nothing we took to hospital fitted my first. We took new born stuff but she weighed in at 11 pound 10. Husband had to go out and buy bigger 3 month old clothes and size 2 nappies.

Good luck with the case and the birth

LotisBlue · 22/08/2016 22:17

Both mine wore tiny baby for the first few weeks as newborn swamped them.

LotisBlue · 22/08/2016 22:19

What gestation is your elcs booked for? I was told that babies put on half a pound a week in the last few weeks of pregnancy.

Nope! All 4 of my children were in tiny baby (6lbs,5.5lbs,6.5lbs and 5.14lbs at birth) newborn swampped them

Dixiechick17 · 22/08/2016 22:39

DD 7lbs 10oz and newborn were a bit big on her, she grew out of then in three weeks and went up to 1month after that. Also, growth scans aren't always accurate, I took two sizes Into hospital :)

randomsabreuse · 23/08/2016 05:29

My 6.3 girl "should" have been 8lb plus per measurements btw - better slightly too big but she was swamped by newborn and size 1 nappies were large on the waist.

shabbychic1 · 23/08/2016 09:57

Thanks for all the replies! Cs booked for 39+4. He's on the 50 centile at the moment. I've got both newborn and 0-3 months- just squashing them all into the bag! Also got size 1 nappies. Hope they fit! Grin

you should be fine. In any case, it will probably be too warm for him to wear much more than a vest!

BadToTheBone · 23/08/2016 11:20

Mine were 8lb9ozs and8lb, both wore newborn clothes for a few weeks.
