Minimum stay after 2nd C-Section

Due 2nd C-Section this week. Went to hell & back due to underlying medical condition causing pain after 1st onr, with bugger all understanding from the medical staff.

It either wasn't "hospital policy" to let me sit up, stand up etc etc, or they just didnt listen. Having seen my notes there are remarks about me complaining about being in pain - but no mention that I was telling them it had nothing to do with section & if they'd allowed me to be mobile it might have bloody helped.

I am hoping to convince hospital to let me out after 48 hours.

Anyone managed this? Or even less time?

I stayed in for two nights after my 2nd section. The staff didn't think I'd be discharged so soon, but when the consultant came round I was so mobile and well that she let me out!

I think 48 hours is normal. I had one on a sat evening and they would have let me go tues morning if we hadn't had to stay in because the baby needed to

My second section was an ELCS, had my DD at 2pm on the Thursday, stayed in recovery til 8pm because no beds on the ward (was lovely and quiet!) I told them straight away I was keen to get up and about so at 7am the next day (Friday) they removed my catheter and said I could get up when I was ready - I decided to wait til my DH came in and got up a couple of hours after they removed the catheter. I kept on top of my pain mess that day and then left on the Saturday at 10am. So from c-section to leaving it was less than 48 hours for me. My hospital were very keen that you get up and about though, I was monitored due to high BP while I was in and just made sure they knew I wanted to leave ASAP (in my notes they'd written 'Mum keen to go home' a couple of times if not for my BP problems I'd probably have tried to go sooner tbh (I believe postnatal wards are hell on earth)

Sorry total ramble but I hope I've assured you that even with monitoring for potential problems you can be discharged within 48 hours. Hope all goes well for you OP. I found my care much better 2nd time round (same hospital) so I hope you find that too. Best of luck

I was in for 3 nights after my 2nd elcs but that was mostly because DS was poorly (and I had early pre eclampsia). I could easily have gone home after 2 nights though without those 2 issues.
Day 1 after section I was in a LOT of pain but the recovery was really fast and I was desperate to get out of the place by day 3! Just keep on top of your pain meds and you should be fine. I recovered really quickly, driving at 3 weeks and could have driven from 2 weeks if I'd needed to.

Two nights seems pretty average. Don't think I've ever seen people stay in longer unless they have problems. I stayed in two nights with planned section number 2&3 but five nights with my first (was an emergency) as I was well

That's the thing, I won't be mobile. I will be relying on crutches, as I have been for the last 5 months.

But I will be going home to a house that will have 3 responsible (read boring) adults in it for the 1st 48+ hours if I make it out in 2 nights, surely that has to count for something in their decision?

Or do I just fight them & discharge myself if getting no support?

My hospital had something called 'enhanced recovery' - in short they want everyone (without complications) up, about and out within 24 hours if possible. I was sceptical (couldn't move for days after my EMCS) but after try elective at midday I was walking by midnight and out at midday the following day (24 hours). Good luck with yours.

It's a different hospital in a different county and plenty of notes written bout my lack of mobility at minute.

I was out the next day. My pregnancy had been high risk and it was my second section but all straightforward and I was sent home within 24 hours. As were the other women in my bay.

I was discharged after 24 hours on my second section. There were no complications though.

I was desperate to get out of hospital after my EMCS (first section, but fourth birth) and was let out after 48 hours. Unfortunately, my wound burst open and I had to get restitched I was rushed back in and had to stay there for a week
The midwife said my recovery would then take twice as long, and I had a lovely dose of PTSD to boot
I'd advise anyone to stay in for at least 3 nights - sorry x

24 hours here too- it was awesome. Recovery at home was so much better that my first one.

I'm in Ireland, maybe it's just different procedures here.

Due to go in tomorrow for pre-op paperwork etc. Wanted me to stay in overnight for section Thurs but I refused.

Anything you think I should ask / say in order to get out by Saturday (without coming across as a complete b...h )

Generally speaking, hospitals want and need to discharge you ASAP, and they don't want to keep you in. If they do it's because there is a reason. I was there three days and nights because ds was jaundice otherwise it would have been two. But if you are in pain, and this is affecting your blood pressure, or any other risks they will insist on keeping you in.

My second section was 5.38am on Friday. By 5pm Friday I'd had a shower and was up and about. 10am the following morning I was home. Was desperate to be off the sweaty hospital ward and back home with dd.

My first was an EMCS. Baby born at 7.30am and I was allowed to get up at 10.30am to see her in SCBU (as she was being transferred to another hospital). They weren't happy about it but they let me do it. I was encouraged to be up and walking about from about 7pm, had a shower that night and went home the next morning. I was travelling by public transport from that day so I could be with my daughter - it wasn't ideal or comfortable but it was doable.

The only thing which slowed me up was the paperwork

With my next one I was discharged from hospital the next day but opted to spend the night in a local midwife led unit. A kind of half way house. Was a great option!

I reckon one night is the absolute minimum - I went home after two nights after my second section, and recovered very well (being as mobile as sensibly poasible). Actually I only stayed in for two nights for my first too (EMCS), but recovery took longer then, definitely.

Are you in the UK? I can't understand how it isn't hospital policy to encourage you to move around - that's ridiculous!!

Ah yes OP. I'm in NI and after both my cs I was discarded after 2 nights. Have many friends in RoI though and every one of then has had to stay approx 5 days with no complications.

Thats the thing spoon, I will be in pain, but again 95% isnt actually from the section.

Met a lovely midwife in the middle of the 3rd night in (while crying in the hall to not disturb other mammy's) who "advised" me to discharge myself & get home to my own pain meds - ones in hospital werent strong enough. Was on my feet without crutches 2 days later.

Thats the reason im so anxious to get out quick.

I had a second c section in Ireland - all went smoothly but I wasn't allowed home until the fifth day . if you have your c section after lunch

So by the sounds of the 2 that have mentioned Ireland it looks like I will have to fight & get myself discharged AMA again!!! Bloody hell, why can't they listen to the individual patient instead what is protocol????
