Minimum stay after 2nd C-Section

Due 2nd C-Section this week. Went to hell & back due to underlying medical condition causing pain after 1st onr, with bugger all understanding from the medical staff.

It either wasn't "hospital policy" to let me sit up, stand up etc etc, or they just didnt listen. Having seen my notes there are remarks about me complaining about being in pain - but no mention that I was telling them it had nothing to do with section & if they'd allowed me to be mobile it might have bloody helped.

I am hoping to convince hospital to let me out after 48 hours.

Anyone managed this? Or even less time?

I have just had my second section, was hoping to be out after 2 nights (or even one if I was up to it), but stayed 3 nights in the end as I just didnt feel up to it beforehand. Your circumstances sound rather unusual though if you will have stronger pain relief at home, so I can see why you would want to leave ASAP.

To anyone else though I would say try not to have too fixed an idea of how long you want to be in for, every operation is different. I feel that I actually recovered more quickly from my first section, despite it being an EMCS and my second being an elective.

Going home meant I only had to take 3 days worth (9 tablets) of my own pain meds to be fully functional superdrug. The meds in hospital in a 24 hour period were equivalent to about 1 of my own.

Surely it's better for all in the long run to dose myself up at home for 3 days, and recover faster. Than sit crying in hospital for days cos the pain is so bad???

Hi op,

For my 2nd ecs I was home the next day. Had ds2 at 11.09 was home 13.00 the next day. I couldn't wait to get out of there Grin I hope all goes well

I think they might be extra cautious at the moment op. Just rte reporting lot of incidences in recent weeks.

But they should listen to you. Those beds are sweaty and it does get claustrophobic in there and it is definately hard to get moving and out and about.

I was up, walking and showered within 3 hours of both cs. I stayed in for 12hrs and 36hrs respectively.

Not sure why you are on crutches, (so not sure if this is relevant) but I had them with both my planned sections as had severe spd, with my last one I was actually in a wheel chair :(

Nessie100 · 07/06/2016 20:02

paula2112 I have SPD, but also have previous pelvic going back 30+ years that's causing the major problem.

How long were you in after Sections if you don't mind me asking?

I'm booked in for elcs soon, and also hoping for a one night stay if possible. Had two nights last time but they were not so sure I was ready to go home then so I might be over optimistic. The ward stay afterwards was very unpleasant

In my hospital they told me they want you up in 12 hours after c-section
But write a birth plan highlight it at the top that you need to move reposition to help with other pain and get your birth support person to keep a copy and be willing to back you up
I hope you receive the care and support you need and want and have a better experience this time good luck

Paulat2112 · 08/06/2016 15:56

Two nights with my planned sections. Five with my emergency as I was quite not well but dd was fine. With my second section they almost threw me out lol

Nessie100 · 08/06/2016 20:53

They tried telling me today I would be 5 nights in. I burst out laughing in the doctors face Hmm.

Told them they need to have the forms on file to discharge me asap.

Can't you take your own pain meds in to self medicate?
