Am 40+1 today, have never reached my due date before (this is DC4) was expecting to be a few weeks early so am feeling totally fed up now! I've had stop start contractions for weeks, been losing plug for weeks, midwife said yesterday that baby has turned back to back and this could be causing the stop start, so I'm now spending as much time as possible not relaxing like I want to and on all fours, which is bloody horrible. She did a sweep for me, said cervix is soft, low, few cm open. So all seems good to go, but it's not going and I'm going mad!
I have seen many threads asking about getting labour going and moaning about non moving babies that result in things kicking off, so thought I'd give it a go. I might book the hairdresser for tomorrow or something.

Thanks so far nothing happening so it clearly doesn't always work i've got another sweep in the morning and hoping it does something, I'm planning for a home birth and don't want to have to end up with induction at the hospital

Oral sex (semen contains prostaglandins). Good anecdotal evidence for this and no, I'm not OP's DP

Surely worried, the prostaglandins are only any good on your actual cervix, and not in your stomach!? Are you sure you're not DH......

Apparently not underthebored Very experienced midwife told me that it's oral effects are anecdotally superior... And definitely not DH

Can I moan with you? 41+3 today and also never gone this long before (dc3). Had my second sweep today and no change to cervix/dilation since Wednesday's sweep. Am booked in for induction on Sunday. Got home from sweep today and spent an hour crying - I really don't want to end up on the labour ward/having an induction! Come on baby!

I hear you ladies. 40+3 here and while I have a mammoth amount of patience, it is starting to wear thin. I don't want a sweep or induction as I want to wait for baby to come naturally but I am going slightly crazy. Nothing left to do for baby in terms of prep, feel very uncomfortable, on/off blubbering at every passing dog/child/old person, being kicked in the ribs constantly, can't sleep and when I do I'm waking up starving at 4am, can't walk far because of swollen feet and sheer weight (am small framed). Everyone I know is at work too so no one really to hang out with. Generally wondering when this torture will end and of course the answer is that really no one knows. Bit buggered really until something happens. Just wanted to say I'm here and I sympathise, which is a comfort for be to know there's others out there in the same boat. Hope the end is in sight for you ladies soon!
Also, had my show last week and apart from a few sets of BH, sod all else has happened. Grrr.

Hi Chaos and Bear :) fingers crossed things kick off for us soon! 40+3 today here too, woke up this morning with niggly period type pains, and have midwife coming at 11 to do another sweep for me so ever hopeful that something will happen soon. I'm so so fed up now I'm almost thinking I'll just take myself off to the hospital and cry at them until they induce me if this baby doesn't get a move on!

Second sweep done, she said cervix is very soft and around 4-5cm dilated already. She was very umm... thorough and I have a fair amount of pain now! Am not sure if it's anything more than just after effects of the sweep though. Has anyone had sweeps before? I have no experience of how it works really.

Pop on your favourite knickers and you are guaranteed a lovely bloody show and waters breaking all over them!

Or start binge watching a box set. You will be desperate to find out what happens after some cliffhanger but your baby will make sure you remain ignorant until you are on the Other Side of going overdue!

Ooh, Under. Isn't 4cm classed as labour?! Sounds promising. I'm just about to have reflexology despite not really liking my feet to be touched. Desperate times and all that! Yes, sweeps can be pretty full on!

And fingers crossed for you too, Bear. I'm afraid I had a show 10 days ago and have had BH for weeks but nothing! Hope it's quicker for you!

Still in pain now, have put my tens machine on to see if it helps a bit, still very irregular and not 'wave' type pains like labour more period dull ache pains, but hopefully it progresses from here. I have had more than enough of waiting now!

I went to 41 weeks with my fourth, not really what I signed up for.

39+4 here. Induced yesterday at midday. Contractions were going great but I'm only 1cm dilated amd contractions wearing off. Heads still high too. Only 24 hours in and I've had enough!

I hear ya! 40+2 here with my third and so ready! I've been told the Mw won't do a sweep or induce until 41+ weeks, but I had a sweep at 40+4 with my first... If this baby isn't here by Monday I'll be desperate for a sweep - do I have to move counties to get one?

Enjoying snuggles with our newborn. We avoided induction but ended up with a fair bit of intervention - not that any of that matters now! Hope you're all well/ progressing/ delivered..

I'm still bloomin' here. Humph. Had a lovely day yesterday with OH and one contraction this am. Yes, one. I walked 7km yesterday in the hope it would get things moving. No such luck. I've got hay fever too so bloody pelvic floor is not holding it together! Sneezing and weeing all over the place-oh the joys. I do get sympathetic looks wherever I go though- I look enormous!

RubgyWidow- I was offered an induction from 40 weeks. Started discussing at 38 so it does seem like it's variable. Not sure if it's dependent on individual midwife or where you live though.

Thanks for the advice though Hawkmoth and Thatorchid. Tried the restaurant thing- didn't work unfortunately but might try the box set! Can't find one I like though. . .

Just endured sweep no.3, It was v v uncomfortable, midwife says I'm definitely dilating, she could easily stretch to around 6cm! But head is not descending any further, she thinks when I go it'll be v fast it's just getting going. So i'm off to spend the rest of the day bouncing on my ball to try and get this baby to move down more!
She's coming back on weds to do one last sweep for me if needed then I'll get a 40+10 app at the hospital, although she will support me not going for induction as long as me and baby are fine. I'm going to see how I feel if baby is still not here then.
So so fed up with it all now! I hope everyone else is getting on better

I remember searching for ways to start labour and an old thread on here came up. Someone said to put your thumbs on your inner ankles, move them back and down 1 inch until you find a little indent and to rub in circular motions. I did (because I really wanted DS out) and an hour later my waters broke! 11 hours and a visit to the maternity ward later i did it again and an hour after that contractions started. I'm 99% sure it was coincidence but I'm still a little curious if any of you ladies want to try it out

I'm jumping on this bandwagon! 40 + 5 now with DC2. Desperate to avoid induction & meet my baby.
Baby went breech but was turned last week so I'm on course for water birth at birthing centre . Had a sweep but was told cervix was posterior & only 1cm dilated (I was happy with 1cm!).
Waiting for next midwife appt & sweep on Wed

Reflexology kick started my labour which included circular pressure on the spleen 6 point- that spot 4 fingers up from your ankle bone. Google it! If you can find a reflexologist who specialises in maternity work I'd highly recommend it. (The one I saw is SE London if that's local for anyone!).

40+5 here as well, with DC2.. very keen to avoid induction this time (induced at 42+1 with DS), but no signs of anything happening yet ... I have a sweep on Wednesday which might hopefully do something!

My sympathies ladies, I'm not pregnant but remember this well - 3 of mine were late, the last last a day early but they'd started sweeps early as didn't want him to be overdue.

under, your DC4 sounds very similar to mine. I had 3 sweeps and was clearly dilating slowly over a number of days.
Went into labour after sweep no 3 and then it slowed down. I asked them to break my waters in the end as the same thing happened with DC3 (9 days over) and he was out within 2 hours of them breaking - as was dc4. Head was very high but once the waters go and there's direct pressure from the head on the cervix, it all got moving very quickly.

So am hoping that gives you some comfort.
