How long were you in hospital?

Obviously all births are different, and not everyone even goes to a hospital, but there was no snappier way of writing that in the title!

Just curious, really. I'm 35+4, have only one week left at work, and am starting to think about the realities of what's about to happen.

So yeah, my question is; how long did you spend in hospital/maternity unit if any time at all, before and after your birth(s)?

Thanks!

Baby 1, went in at 9am, he was born at just after 2pm by emcs, stayed in for 5 days.

Baby 2, went in at 3am, he was born at 5am and went home at 1pm.

Baby 3, went in at 1.55pm, just made it onto the bed before she was born. Then stayed in 24hrs because of mecconium.

DS was born at 22.41 after I arrived at hospital at about 21.15. Stayed that night and then a further two nights because he refused to feed and they wouldn't send us home until he did. He never did and so I had to establish expressing so he could be fed before they would let us leave.

I was surprised to quite enjoy it!

DC1: arrived at hospital at 10pm on Thursday, she was born Friday lunchtime. We left hospital on Monday at 11am.

DC2: went into hospital for an induction at 9:30am, had waters broken and he was born at 2:19pm. Home by 6pm.

DC3: went into the MLU for a few hours Monday daytime, but were sent away as labour paused. We were back in on Tuesday at 9pm, she was born at 2 minutes to midnight, but I was blue lighted to hospital at 1:30am after a PPH. Went home at 7pm on Thursday.

Fleurchamp · 16/01/2016 19:21

Got to hospital birth centre at 12.30pm, gave birth at 2.40pm and was home drinking tea at 10pm.

I realise I was very lucky Smile

Cathster · 16/01/2016 19:21

Went in at lunchtime on the Tuesday, had DD on Thursday afternoon and was discharged the following Friday due to needing monitoring for high BP and DD not feeding (4 weeks early).

So 11 days in total. Was ready to get the heck out of there by day 3 after DD's birth though!

TheGreenNinja · 16/01/2016 19:21

Only had one hospital birth, was in for about 6 hours before induction started (was an unplanned induction because of foetal distress). After birth, didn't go to the ward for 6 hours. No idea why! In hindsight we could have gone home then I guess but it was 4am and we were knackered. Didn't then get discharged till about lunchtime but that's because we were waiting for the baby's blood group results for anti-d injections. I was itching to get home.

eatingworms · 16/01/2016 19:23

3 nights in total with DC1 but that was because I had a kidney infection.
DC2 I was only there for 8 hours in total, Labour ward only. It was great.

Wigeon · 16/01/2016 19:26

DD1 - born about 4 hours after arriving, left about 6 hours after the birth (which was the earliest possible time they said they'd discharge me)

DD2 - born about an hour after arriving, left about 4 hours after the birth.

Obviously both were straightforward births, no complications, breastfeeding easy to establish (something the midwives wanted to check before letting me go).

Didn't stay overnight with either as they both conveniently arrived around lunchtime Grin

WineSpider · 16/01/2016 19:29

Went in for induction monday morning, DD born friday morning (it took that long). Had to stay till the following Wednesday due to infection. So that was 9 nights.

Then got readmitted twice as the infection hadn't cleared up (missed retained placenta) which totalled 6 nights i think.

And i had spent 4 nights on the antenatal ward being monitored for high blood pressure in the 2 weeks before being induced.

19 nights in total. I was institutionalised by the end!

Good luck.

Induced 3pm Monday, baby born 3am Monday, left 9pm Tuesday (24hr obs for baby and loooooooads of waiting around for paperwork to be done etc).

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/01/2016 19:37

Induced 3pm Sunday!!! That would have been a long stay Grin

SparklyPenguin · 16/01/2016 19:41

Called into day unit for monitoring at 9am, admitted with pre-eclampsia at 3pm, induction started midnight, forceps delivery 6pm on day two. Moved to post-natal ward the next morning where we stayed 5 more nights (for my recovery- baby would've been fine to be discharged after 12 hours.)

FlysInDreams · 16/01/2016 19:44

Went in Tuesday to be induced (37+4 with twins), finally gave birth on Sunday (but DTD2 by c-sec), got out Tuesday, sent back in on Wednesday because of high blood pressure, finally got to go home properly on Sunday.

CoffeeCoffeeAndLotsOfIt · 16/01/2016 19:48

Ds born by c-sec and i was discharged 3 days later.

AngelsWithFilthySouls · 16/01/2016 19:54

Was called back to hospital on the Monday night due to blood results (preeclampsia). Induced the next morning and DS arrived in the afternoon. He was in for 16 days SCBU/NICU (preemie sub 4lb) and I was in until the Friday as my blood results and liver scans weren't good but I was desperate to get out as post natal ward without a baby is hell.

kiki22 · 16/01/2016 21:06

46 hours total. DS was born at 3.15pm and I left at 2pm the following day. I refused to stay longer as DS was in perfect health, I was dehydrated and stitched inside out and back to front I just wanted to go home where my family could take care of me not stuck in a ward with no help and 6 babies taking it in turns to cry. If DS needed to stay I would have. I will do the same thing this time I know lots of people don't feel ready to go home straight away but for me I just wanted my own house with dp and my family to be there for me I found hospital isolating and overwhelming.

Salene · 16/01/2016 21:10

Went in on Sunday at 4pm to be induced. Started induction at 11pm
Contractions started at 5am Monday morning
Baby born at 2pm
Home by 8.30pm

1st baby

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 16/01/2016 21:12

No 1 I got there at 9am, baby born at 4pm and home by 9pm.

No 2 arrived at 5am, baby born at 8.30am and home for 4pm.

emsyj · 16/01/2016 21:17

DD1 - arrived about 1am, baby born by crash section 1.45am, stayed in 4 nights to establish feeding which was quite hard work. Had terrible cabin fever and zero sleep.

DD2 - called hospital to say we were coming about 2am. Baby born on living room floor about 3am. Much nicer experience all round!! Only went to hospital a week later for the newborn hearing test. Bath in own bath after the birth, bloody lovely.

Error404usernamenotfound · 16/01/2016 21:22

Went in late afternoon on the Saturday, DD born early hours of Sunday morning, then kept in till Thursday, with both of us on antibiotics due to possible infection.

Millie2013 · 16/01/2016 21:27

A week after the birth, assisted birth PPH, blood transfusions and baby weight loss. I'd planned on getting discharged the same day/day after and I'm sure I would have, had things been smoother

TheLittleLion · 16/01/2016 23:05

I went to the birth center at 5am, had my son at 5pm and was at home by 10:30pm.

I did lose quite a bit of blood and they were very indecisive about whether I should go to hospital for a transfusion or not, eventually they said it was up to me and I chose to go home, so I suppose it would have been longer had I chosen to go to the hospital.

Samantha28 · 16/01/2016 23:11

14 hours are a very bad VD

27 hours after a very smooth CS

Both the soonest they would let me out. Both times I had to wait for a paediatrician to " check the baby " .

I really hate hospital and found the care on the post natal wards practically non existent ( even after then CS ) . Sorry but you did ask !

didireallysaythat · 16/01/2016 23:11

Induction 36 hours
Elective c section about 36 hours

Both until epi wore off and they could find a doctor to discharge me (that's what always delays you in my hospital)
