Waters breaking? Am I in labour? Or wishful thinking?

Hi there, I am 38+6 with 2nd child. 1st DD born at 38+6.

A few days ago I thought my waters might have leaked a bit but as it coincided with a cough didnt think to much about it.

Tonight, at midnight, I was lying in bed, coughed again, and gushed. Enough to soak my knickers and trickle down my leg when I leapt up in shock (sorry if tmi) . It doesnt smell like wee. I've had a pad on for an hour and it is damp but not soaked.

Is this my waters breaking? I had a couple of contractions/BHs about 15 mins apart and then all stopped.

what should I do?

Sounds like it to me. Did you have a show before hand. Give your labour ward a ring and see what they say. Always better safe than sorry. If you're not having any contractions yet guess baby's in no rush. However, if that's your waters gone they may need to monitor the situation for you. Good luck, all sounds very exciting especially as dd was born also at 38 +6

You need to be examined if your waters have gone in case the cord slips down. My waters broke on Christmas day & it would be a few mins with nothing, then a gush. YUK! I found putting a nappy down my knickers saved the car seat
Good luck lol xxx

sounds like it, try and get a bit of sleep if you can, you'll be glad of it later. Did your waters go first last time ?

fortyplus · 05/12/2006 01:27

ps 52 hours from when they went until ds1 was born!

HumphreyCushiONtheFirstNoel · 05/12/2006 01:28

Good luck.

satinshoes · 05/12/2006 01:29

hi, thanks. last time was awful.

took 3 days and they went to break my waters to hurry things up but found they'd already gone (without my noticing) which is why i might seem a bit ignorant now.

how you feeling, any more contractions ?

HumphreyCushiONtheFirstNoel · 05/12/2006 01:32

My first labour was dreadful.
Second was much quicker, and much easier.

satinshoes · 05/12/2006 01:33

i feel fine. 1 or 2 mild contractions but really only every half hour or so.

I've had a lot of strong Braxton Hicks over the last few weeks but the last few days have been pretty quiet.

I did colour code my clothes in my wardrobe night before last though .

lady at playgroup this week at 18 min labour, from water's going to baby out. She even made it to hospital just would you believe,
Dont worry will be easier this time. hopefully not 18mins though

christmascarol3 · 05/12/2006 01:35

colour coding wardrobe is a definate warning sign

satinshoes · 05/12/2006 01:36

lol. I did the same with DD 2 days before labour started. Didnt even realise i was doing it until I realised I had a rainbow of clothes in front of me.

I think I'd better go and get some rest and then I'll call labour ward 1st thing in the morning.

Ooooh good luck satinshoes.
My waters went in the night with ds.
By the time I got round to going to the hospital to be checked, I was in establuished labour (despite only having weak contractions at home) and he was born at 6pm the same day.
Let us know how you get on.

HumphreyCushiONtheFirstNoel · 05/12/2006 09:53

Good luck, satinshoes.
How exciting!
