Waters breaking? Am I in labour? Or wishful thinking?

Hi there, I am 38+6 with 2nd child. 1st DD born at 38+6.

A few days ago I thought my waters might have leaked a bit but as it coincided with a cough didnt think to much about it.

Tonight, at midnight, I was lying in bed, coughed again, and gushed. Enough to soak my knickers and trickle down my leg when I leapt up in shock (sorry if tmi) . It doesnt smell like wee. I've had a pad on for an hour and it is damp but not soaked.

Is this my waters breaking? I had a couple of contractions/BHs about 15 mins apart and then all stopped.

what should I do?

Oh Good Luck Satin xxxxxxxxxx

It sounds like this could be it!!!!!

Thinking of you xxxxx

(You see all that colour co-ordinating and cupboard cleaning was a sign after all!!!!! I'm chuffed to bits for you!!!)

Afraid to say I am back

The m/w checked the baby's h/b - all fine. Checked with speculum and said all fine. She could see no pooling but that it was all very 'clean' which probably meant I'd lost a bit of my hindwaters but that it has all sealed itself back up.

Still only the odd contraction and she said without contractions best thing was to go home.

Urine test showed traces of ketones (never heard of) and protein. I have quite a cough/cold so m/w said my body is using its own reserves to get better and it could be that my body wont do anything until the cold has gone??

DH has taken day off to look after DD and I am under instructions rest lots and stuff my face to get energy levels back (havent really slept much this week)

Any further advice would be welcome And thank you for all of the good wishes....

Ketones in the urine can mean that you need to eat more, you are using up your own muscle to give yourself energy.
The best thing you can do is rest and relax and look after yourself, maybe take a bath. It will happen, when you and the baby are ready!

my hindwaters leaked on the wednesday , went to the hospital wednesaday night , they said nothing doing, not even a twinge...stopped off for a kebab on the way home as really late and had no supper (!) extra chilli sauce ! woke up in labour !

rest..the ketones are a sign you are burning your bodies reserves..rest , eat and drink and nothning more !

take care xxx

ludaloo · 05/12/2006 12:32

I've had such a restful day that now I cant sleep

Midwife did say baby was fully engaged when she checked me this morning so fingers crossed it wont be too long.

Contractions seem to be getting going again and are every 10 mins or so. But my body has been a bit mean lately.

Hopefully not another false start but going to try going back to bed in a bit...
