Size 12/14 mums, how big were your babies???

I'm anxious I'm going to have to deliver some sort of 12lb beast!
Our first baby was born with various conditions so her birth weight of 5lbs 12 wasn't fitting to my size.. Now with number 2 I'm told all is average for my size and I'm going to have a much bigger baby.. Ranging from 6lbs 14 to 9lbs. My labour with dd was rank and horrific, I'm panicking it'll be ten times worse with a giant baby!

I has one of 8lb 5 & one of 10lb 1! I'm 5ft 7 in case that makes a difference & DP is only 5ft 10 so DD was surprisingly enormous

Both exactly 8lb. First labour 18 hours with the last 4 in the pool, second labour, 12 hours with the last 2 on gas and air. First was a wonderful, empowering experience and the second was more painful but bearable. I'd do it again

I'm 5'7'' and had three at 10lb 5, 11lb 10 (really!) and 8lb 10.
I don't actually think the weight is crucial to how labour goes; if anything, the heavier the baby the more gravity helps with the exit!
And I reckon the head circumference is what really matters; mine were all average.
But don't let anyone stress you out about it; 9lbs is a tiddler and judging babies' sizes is an inexact science anyway. I had midwives trying to frighten me out of a home birth wih my third, but the home birth consultant basically said there was no way they could tell the birth size from scans or measuring.

All 40 weeks, give or take a couple of days. Biggest baby was the quickest labour (2.5h), DD longest (6.5h).

I'm 5'7, exH is 6'4

8lb odd at 41 +5. I lost a lot of weight first trimester due to morning sickness though, so was in normal clothes until 6 months, but man, I piled it on in the last 2 months. I'm 5' 2" though, so quite porky at a 14!

I ended up with an ECS, but that was all to do with me being completely unprepared as opposed to my size.

Is there an average sized baby for the expectant mothers size?

I was a size 12 before being pg with my Ds, but grew to be much bigger during the pregnancy (gained 4 1/2 st...he was 7lb 13oz.
I was then size 12 all the way through my pregnancy with Dd who was 7lb 15oz and a week late. At a 36 week scan, they told me she was already over 8lbs .

My dd was nine pounds eight at birth. Tbh she never really looked like a newborn. And she was very strong and constantly trying to lift her head and look around pretty much from day one. It was good as I never felt she was too delicate. She's slim and athletic now in primary school. And all in proportion.

Why would you think that being a size 12/14 would mean you will have a big baby
It doesn't work like that

Our hospital do growth charts now that work out the mothers bmi and estimate the range of centile a tour baby should be in.

12-14 is an average sized woman

I really don't get this. Unless you have gestational diabetes your size shouldn't make a difference to the birth weight? Surely father's genetics makeup also plays a part? Tiny women with tall men can have big babies etc. I really wouldn't worry about this, it's a strange thing to tell pregnant women, maybe trying to scare you into keeping your weight down

I'm with Ehric, I've never heard that larger women produce larger babies in general (barring GD of course), it makes no sense From my own experience, I knew a very large woman who had teeny babies of 4/5lbs and my own were over 8lb and I am a size 8/10!
The other point here is that bigger babies don't mean a worse/more painful birth, if anything, bigger babies have more weight behind them to put sufficient pressure on the cervix to help it to open better. Also, you can't compare births, many first labours are longer and more arduous than second and subsequent labours, regardless of the baby's weight.

I was a size 12/14 before pregnant but went up to a size 16 during. (God damn you choc ice cravings).

My baby was 9lb1 at 39+6. I am 5'8 and my dh is 5'11.

I didn't think your size necessarily had a bearing in babies final weight. My friend is a similar size to me but had traditionally had Much smaller babies- 6/7lbs etc.

First baby ( boy ) 8-13
Second baby ( girl ) 7-10

First birth horrendous ( ended with forceps , and so much blood loss I needed a 3 unit transfusion )
Second baby popped out an hour after we arrived at the hospital , no time to get in the pool for a water birth

I was much the same size each time huge

My dd was 7lb14 at term plus 4 days. My ds was 7lb14 at 39weeks. Do decidedly average size.

Size 16 mum DS was born at 40+6 weighing 7lb 4oz.

I'm not saying it makes sense. I'm just going by what the doctors are saying, they work out centiles for the baby based on the mothers bmi. I do find it strange the dad isn't taken into account though

I am 5'5 and DH is 6'1. DS was 6lb3oz at 37+2, and DD was born yesterday at 39w weighing 7lb3oz - her labour was far easier! Fwiw I have several friends who are all slimmer than me (size 8/10) who recently gave birth to 9lb+ babies so i'm not sure there's any correlation...

I'm not sure that the mother's size has much to do with it. I'm 5 ft 3 and a size 8. My baby was 8lbs 10 oz at 40 +2

Yeah it doesn't make sense to me either, does anyone else's hospital do these bmi centile charts for mums and babies?

I really can't see the point of doctors 'working out centiles for the baby based on the mother's bmi.' Just another way to stress mothers out imo.
They cannot tell the birth size from charts and measurements.
And a large baby is not a 'giant' or a 'beast,' btw.

Oh lighten up. I assume you're touchy as your baby was on the bigger side.

I'm just trying to get an idea if all these babies born to similar sized mothers are a similar weight..
I'm maybe fixating a bit much as dd has such complex needs and need to think of something other than if this dc will have similar issues.
Doctors aren't great for scaremongering.. I was told yesterday if baby's growth continues this way 'it will be a very big baby, around 7lbs 11' the wording freaked me out. To me 7lbs 11 is fairly normal sized?!
