Size 12/14 mums, how big were your babies???

I'm anxious I'm going to have to deliver some sort of 12lb beast!
Our first baby was born with various conditions so her birth weight of 5lbs 12 wasn't fitting to my size.. Now with number 2 I'm told all is average for my size and I'm going to have a much bigger baby.. Ranging from 6lbs 14 to 9lbs. My labour with dd was rank and horrific, I'm panicking it'll be ten times worse with a giant baby!

There does appear to be studies that connect the two. Google "mother's BMI baby's birth weight" and there are quite a lot of research articles about it.

Erm I've actually tried to be helpful and posted several times to try and make you stop worrying. Crack on love.

im on my second and have never once heard of this before. Friends vary between size 6 - 22 and there hasn't been any correlation between mums size and baby size at all. Percentile charts in red book are the same for everyone once baby pops out

MrsJ12 · 21/07/2015 10:54

Baby 1 8lb exactly at 41wks exactly
Baby 2 7lb 10oz at 39wks exactly

PavilionGrey · 21/07/2015 23:06

Up until birth, the mother's genes have a far greater influence on the baby's size than do the father's.

In our area, we all receive personalised growth charts that take into account height, weight, bmi (as a separate variable), parity and ethnicity. Your fundal height is then tracked against what would be expected given these variables.

8lb 7oz at 40+1
7lb 14 oz at 39+6

Roseybee10 · 23/07/2015 22:42

I was a size 14/16 with dd1 and she was 8lbs 2oz.
I was a size 8/10 with dd2 and she was 6lbs 14oz.

My mum was a size 10 with me and I was 9lbs15oz!!!

Sparrowlegs248 · 25/07/2015 00:52

DS born earlier today at 9lb 1. I am 5'7 and size 12/14.

My mum and sister both had larger babies.

ladybird69 · 25/07/2015 01:23

I was very slim size 10 and had Ds1 & 2 who were 8-9.8lbs! Then few yrs later size 22 had 2dds 7&8 lbs. your size doesn't really have anything to do with it, there are other factors ie fathers height/build and your health etc

SilverHoney · 25/07/2015 20:09

Yep I had a bmi based prediction chart, but as I'm 6ft and baby was 2 weeks late she never was going to be small (10lbs). I was a size 12/14 at the start of my pregnancy Blush

Hobbes8 · 25/07/2015 20:19

Growth predictions are notoriously inaccurate. My first baby had IUGR so I was induced at 36 weeks and he was only 4lb 11oz. I had extra growth scans with my second pregnancy in case it re-occurred (it didn't) and at 32 weeks I was told the baby was 90th centile. She was born at 40+3 and was 7lb 1oz. The birth was fine as well - she came really quickly with just a bit of gas and air.

Try not to worry.

mmollytoots · 29/07/2015 18:17

I'm size 16 baby girl was 7lb 1oz

Xxpinkxx · 29/07/2015 19:15

Size 10 and 5'9 baby was 9lb 3oz, my midwife said often mothers birth weight can be similar to baby's but not sure if this is true but was in my case as I was 9lb 8oz

StrawberrytallCake · 29/07/2015 19:22

I like your name OP, I ate so many twix bars with my last dc I thought she would come out a twix too....she came out 10b 4oz though and I was a size 10-12 before becoming pregnant.

I don't think people are being funny but yes calling a baby a giant or a beast is very offensive and so is suggesting a size 12-14 as large!!?? As you know from your previous pregnancy all sorts of influences can impact on the size of the baby so using some intelligence I'm sure you can work out the answer to your question.

StrawberrytallCake · 29/07/2015 19:23

Congratulations Nottalotta Flowers

AlwaysWashing · 29/07/2015 19:32

Mine were 7lb and 8lb 4 oz ????

SerialBox · 29/07/2015 19:35

8lbs 13oz. I was told she would be about 10lbs, I had an enormous bump and it was based on that not me being a size 12. I think it's just guess work on their part tbh.

KevinKnowsImMiserableNow · 29/07/2015 19:39

Size 12 = 9 pounds 11
Size 14/16 (still hanging on to baby weigtht = 7 pounds 14

Indantherene · 29/07/2015 20:17

I was a size 12 before and after all 4 of my babies in my 20s.

DC1 was 6lb 10oz (on due date)
DC2 was 7lb 12 oz (11 days late)
DC3 was 7lb 10oz (3 days early)
DC4 was 8lb 7oz (8 days late)

By the time I had DC5 (in my 40s) I was a size 16, and she was 7lb 2oz

Lorn26 · 29/07/2015 20:22

My 3 were 8lb 12 at 6 days early, 10lb 1oz at 8 days late and 9lb 7oz at 6 days late. My first labour was by far the worst and my 10 pounder was the fastest and easiest labour. I'm only 5ft 4 and 'was' a size 10 before I got pregnant with my youngest so I'm not sure size has anything to do with it.

catsofa · 29/07/2015 21:55

I'm 5'7, size 12 up to 14 in pregnancy, DS was 7lbs 6 oz at 40 + 4.

I think the best advice is to have children with a man with a very small head.

xxx28xxx · 31/07/2015 21:41

I was a size 10 pre pregnancy with no1 and he ended up 9lb 13 at 2 weeks over. I'm only 5'3 but my husband is 6'0 and my mum had 4 big babies. When I spoke to my midwife about my son's size she just said some women make big babies and it's just one of those things lol.
I'm pregnant with no2, another boy so I'm preparing myself for a possible 10lber. I will be shocked if he weighs much less than his brother anyway

Doublebubblebubble · 02/08/2015 15:29

DD - born 39+6 - 8lb 4oz (I think this is a nice size, others think this is quite big...
I am currently 31 weeks and my baby has been estimated at 3lb 12oz already, I know that its an estimate but I am MASSIVE! So I am kind of freaking out about him... X
