If you lost your show, how long after did you go into labour??

I am 40+5 today, and I finally had a successful sweep yesterday. Woke up this morning to a delectable mucus plug. It's like your cervix gobbed at you. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you ladies could tell me how quickly after this you went into labour/if you even did or could it be an unnatural result of my midwife's helpfully rooting around?? I am obviously hanging on the edge of my seat here!

With ds I went into labour about 2 days later.

Plug went Wed am. Felt a bit dodgy for the rest of the day, dubious cramps Thurs am, labour Thurs pm, DS Fri pm.

I had a show (without sweep) at 40+5 also and pains began the next morning, good and fast then and had baby at exactly 41 weeks

Had show 6.30 on morning (natural onset ) went into labour about midday & dd was born @ 15:31.

Mucus plug went on a Thursday (no blood or anything in it) when I was 37 + 4.

Labour started the following Sunday week at 39 weeks exactly.

I was very excited when the plug went but still had a bit of waiting to do!

God I am finding so much variation online. And nothing really seems consistent, more than anything labour seems to be a pretty personal thing. No two women are the same... Apparently scientists don't even really know what sends us into labour!!

Surely this would be worth finding out?

It's a wimmins issue though, so nobody really cares.

From show to painful contractions was 16 hours, from there another 12 hours to birth. So basically just over a day before the birth.

Seems to vary a lot though from what I have heard from others.

About 4 hours, though NCT class said it just meant something was likely to happen in the next week.
Human variation on everything to do with reproduction is bad enough - being a vet student isn't actually that much more complicated...

Had a show at 6:30am. DD arrived at 9:26am.

Ha-dee-ha well, I lost more of it today and seemed to have stopped contracting completely, 3 blobs of blob and still waiting...

@acardiganforcat yeah there is a bit of lack of research when it comes to anything female... they know eff all about how to treat polycystic ovaries for example. Not that it's widespread or anything...

Oh I've been torturing myself reading everything on this on the web since I had a show yesterday (36 weeks). Too much variation to tell :(

That's not really the case. We also don't how people fall asleep or wake up, which, I think, affects both men and women.

Anyway, to answer the original question, I lost bits of the show for weeks and weeks before delivering at 40+13.

I went into labour a week after I had my show.

I lost my plug whilst in labour all four times. I couldn't believe how much there was the first time. I had a pad on because my waters had already gushed out. I went to the loo a couple of hours later and during the walk from delivery room down the corridor to the toilet, I lost my plug. So glad I had a big pad on because it completely covered the pad in a big snotty mess! Ewwwwwww!

2 hours for me

DC1 - huge show on due date; labour started at 40+10
DC2 - huge show at 37+ something; elective section at 39 weeks with no sign of labour
DC3 (current pg) - show (smallish, though, just a bit of my plug I think, rather than the whole thing) at 35+5, now 37 weeks, nothing happening yet!

So for me it's always ages. Sorry!

My plug went at 2:30am followed wet quickly by contractions and DS was born at 12:29pm

Dc1: went into labour 2 hrs later, baby born 7 hrs later
Dc2: went into labour 48 hrs later, but it was fast labour- 2 hrs and she was born
Midwife told me labour mostly happens within 24 hrs after show but can be up to a week

I always read that it can be anytime long or short as some people lose their plugs early and it re grows and others don't lose it until labour!

I lost mine at 37+3 at midday ish after feeling rather uncomfortable for a few days (but assumed it couldn't be labour as it was too soon plus it was Xmas and there was no way I was having a Christmas baby...I wanted to stuff my face using the 'I'm pregnant' excuse)
Then at 9am the next day (Xmas eve of all days) my waters went and baby was here by 10:50am so for me it was less than 24hrs between losing my plug and giving birth.

Fingers crossed you aren't waiting long.
